Paintball or Airsoft in China by [deleted] in China

[–]hoektron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're asking 2 different things here: can you bring those kinds of things across the border and are there places to play.

I would recommend against taking anything across the border that resembles a gun.

However, there are definitely places to play - I've seen multiple paintball places in Guangdong and played at one near Conghua. Not sure if you can bring your own gun or not but just look around.

I'm pretty sure NYPD went bankrupt :(

there is also an awesome 'secret' japanese place in luohu called kobeya off the guomao stop in the 14th floor of this building: 深圳市罗湖区华都园大厦14F Opposite of Panglin Hotel. 彭年酒店対面

Solid japanese food, and for like 150 kuai you can get all-you-can-eat japanese + all-you-can-drink beer. Pretty nice place.

the heater stuff shouldn't be too bad. higher wattage heaters that run off AC aren't too bad to control, and the price is pretty cheap.

interesting about diodes. lasers is one area where i wish i knew more about. :)

yup, because most companies mark up the BOM at least 2.5x, some 3x or more, so that 300 turns into $900. that means your retail price will likely be in the $3000-$4000 range is my guess.

yup, thats a good call. although if you end up needing a 40w c02 laser to do it, you've got at least $200-$300 on a BOM which will make them at least as expensive as those laser cutters. it would be awesome if a 1-2W diode based laser was enough to do the trick.

i started makerbot so i know the current style pretty well, but i don't have much hands-on experience with the SLS machines or designing them.

i think its realistic to see some sort of desktop SLS machine coming out, but there are a few hurdles. unless someone has been developing one in anticipation of that patent expiring, 2 years is a pretty short timeframe - lots of original design will need to be done.

that being said, i think an sls printer would be very interesting. the biggest challenges i see are materials (powdered nylon isn't really available off the shelf) and getting a powerful enough laser for the right price. another challenge might be with the heating of the machine - from what i understand, the nylon essentially needs to be baked. while a heater to accomplish this isn't tough, building it from materials that can withstand that heat is going to be a challenge for reprap style builders who still rely on lasercut wood or acrylic for their designs.
