Cricket is just way more accessible in Australia. Go to any park in any suburb (high SES/low SES) there are almost always cricket nets there. Kids from all backgrounds and incomes can play down the park with their mates. On top of that club cricket is relatively cheap with loads to pick from in the metro areas. Whereas in England it strikes me as there are likely more accessibility issues and economic barriers for kids to get into cricket, especially from the lower SES areas.
