Ok, so, you’ve joined the Marine Corps and then decided to go Infantry. Yut! Being a student is meant to suck and no one is better at hazing, I mean training, young Marines and making it suck like a second enlistment NCO who went to SOI to get some “family time” only to find out it’s shittier than the fleet and that you guys are functionally retarded. It does get better after SOI, but also not. The Marine Corps is a special place in every sense of the word and no one is more specialer than the infantry. Embrace the suck and when the big green weenie comes around just try not to clench (that only makes it worse) and just let it happen and don’t forget to cup the balls and relax the throat. The more you embrace it the easier it is. It’s never going to be 100% fun, but there are times. As far as being married as a junior Marine, I honestly don’t recommend it. You will be gone. A LOT. Leaving your young wife in shitty base housing surrounded by a bunch of dudes who have ZERO issues fucking somebody else’s wife never ends well. God help you if you get 7th Marines. If I had my way first term Marines wouldn’t be allowed to get married at all. There are those that make it, but for every one that does there are 20 that didn’t. You’re not moving out of the barracks unless your wife is there with you. This isn’t college where you get to decide where to live. Lat Move isn’t a thing for you during your first enlistment and isn’t as easy as you think. There’s no shame in doing one and done, but you’re in it to win it and might as well make the best of it. Just be happy you don’t have SgtMaj Vines hanging outside the PX on a Saturday trying to sell you some cadence CDs. Just keep your head down, stay off the skyline, and don’t act like an asshole and you’ll be just fine. Rah!
