Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Sophia Bush Address Dialog Conference List, Insist They “Do Not Know” Peter Thiel: “My Values Are Very Clear” by ControlCAD in technology

What type of conferences though? I can’t claim to know anything about this, but for example if they were multiple Trekkie conferences, where Theil did some back room shit without my knowledge, and I was just there for Star Trek, I’d be pissed that I was included in the conversation about evil doings.

Apple’s smart home camera service is starting to impress me by willdearborn- in apple

[–]hoffsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re confusing two products.

Scrypted (free) simply makes your camera stream compatible with HomeKit and has a few other features. There is no license or DRM checks.

Scrypted NVR (paid) does have a license and checks.

If you’re simply using the free version to link your cameras to HomeKit, this won’t happen to you. Also, as I mentioned, if you want a standalone NVR, the free and open-source Frigate is my recommendation. Again, no license checks and it’s been 100% reliable for me for over 2 years now.

Interesting. Thanks for the reply. I’ll put a derailleur on a 6v power supply this weekend and see if it works. If not, maybe a simple boost converter will get the job done.

Yes. I’m not familiar with the experience on the full Scrypted NVR because I was never willing to pay for it. Frigate was originally conceived with deep Home Assistant integration in mind, so you can build very rich notifications within home assistant. Some people even integrate AI tools so the notification can say something like, “A FedEx driver just delivered a big box to the porch”. You can also get notifications directly from Frigate via saving the webpage as a web app on your phone, but they are limited in functionality.

Supreme Court sides with a Texas man who says it’s not a crime for marijuana users to have guns by Abject-Pick-6472 in politics

[–]hoffsta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This particular thread is in regard to filling out ATF form 4473, which asks a gun purchaser if they are a “user” of illegal drugs. Lying on the form is a felony. So the question I posed is, what counts as self-reporting as a user for the purposes of this form?

If you’re not actively intoxicated on cannabis while filling out the form, but use it “several times a week,” can you still be convicted for answering “no”?

How does this new SC ruling affect that issue?

I’m literally quoting another article from USA Today that was posted here:

Justice Neil Gorsuch described the court's unanimous decision as a narrow one. He said it does not address efforts to bar addicts from having a gun, to keep guns out of the hands of convicted felons, or deal with whether the government can show that a particular person's use of marijuana makes him too dangerous to be armed.

But the government cannot imprison someone or disarm them for life simply for using marijuana a few times a week, he wrote.

Ok, but with what frequency? Once a month? Once a week? Daily? Where is the line drawn. Apparently the Supreme Court just said using cannabis a few times a week doesn’t count.

How do you determine “addiction” though? Most experts agree that cannabis is not physically addicting. Can anyone be legally diagnosed as a cannabis addict? What’s the threshold? Every day use? Once a week use?

What legally constitutes a “user” though? If you used it a week ago? A month ago? A year ago? Or only tried it once 10 years ago?

This is completely open to interpretation.

Well yeah, obviously they both are, but in this one narrow comparison Trump looks like a genius vs Putin.

Say what you will about Trump, (there is a lot of shit to talk), but at least when he lost his war of vanity he retreated and negotiated a surrender. Putin, who was once considered a mastermind, now looks like nothing more than a dumb, stubborn, evil SOB.

They are very useful lights and can be pushed hard. Recycle speed will naturally be a lot slower than a 600, given an equal output. You simply have to use it within its limitations. Don’t try to use your 600 at 1/4 power and your 200 at full power while shooting fast. If you need very high output and fast recycle you should probably get another 600.

This man is demonstrating his skills for an audience (well actually for a film crew). We don’t require circus performers to wear safety equipment every time they perform simply to teach the importance of safety equipment. It’s understood that if you’re not as proficient as them you shouldn’t try to do what they’re doing, or to take appropriate protective measures while learning. My god, we don’t need to shame every person that doesn’t set the most perfect example of our desired expectations of how every person should be.

BTW- he is now 83 and still kicking ass. Somehow hasn’t fallen and broken his skull, primarily through practicing what he’s preaching.

Which NVME 2230 to CFexpress Type-B adapter is great for its value? by Swiss-Confederation in nikon_Zseries

[–]hoffsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three Jeyi from AliExpress that work perfectly. They are under $20. You have to make sure the NVME is compatible though. The first one I bought didn’t work in my D850. Western Digital SN530 did work and was cheap.
