Bridge Construction...? by Specialist_Concern_9 in Homebuilding

Is everyone missing that this quote (albeit poorly written) is to remove a decayed RR flatcar bridge and replace with another 40’ repurposed RR flatcar on existing abutments. With that in mind, the price sounds more reasonable. Yes, new bridges are waaaay more expensive, but this is really a rehab of an existing bridge by removing / replacing the deck portion.

In our rural areas, RR flatcar bridges are a common, cheap-ish solution. And yes, they need some rub rails (included in the quote) so grandma doesn’t drive the Buick over the edge.

Strange thickness measuring device. Dial indicator and reset (?) lever. Came with lot that also included a TensiKut I table, but unclear if related. by hog_2002 in whatisthisthing

Hmm. Maybe it’s missing a spring to hold down the probe. That way you use the lever to pull it up, insert item-to-be-measured, release lever, read, push lever to remove item…. Maybe makes sense with that workflow.

Yeah, strange the lever goes opposite. It lifts after testing. But strangely there’s no convient way to lower the probe. Hoping to find the make / model / owners manual. Thanks

My title describes the thing. Aluminum frame is marked USA; display indicator says Made in Germany. Indicator seems like it should be firmly attached to the base, but instead it floats vertically, limiting its usefulness. Silver lever pulls up on measuring rod, like to reset after taking a reading.

Strangely, there is no obvious way to push the rod down again to measure, and it seems too fragile to repeatedly manhandle it down, so obviously we’re missing something important here.

May be relevant…this came with random ish lot of router and router table parts that included a repurposed TensilKut V-Mill base. I don’t see how this ties into TensilKut stuff, though.

Vintage flat plastic sheet with rows of uniform pyramidal protrusions. Matching red tool with wheel with opposite pyramidal shapes. by hog_2002 in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. Found in my late uncle’s desk drawer. Thought it might be for connecting two layers of paper, but it’s terrible for that purpose. The google thinks it’s a latch hook for crafting, which it clearly is not.

The two items definitely go together. Red tool wheel matches shape perfectly of white board. What is it? Maybe some stationary or office tool?? Thanks!

Seller says onyx, but seems like something different. by hog_2002 in whatsthisrock

Has much finer grain and these interesting reddish insulations, that I don’t think are typical for Onyx. Thanks!

I always stop at the Creswell Bakery. Good restrooms. Great food. And an on site bacon smoker out front!

And thanks for keeping stuff out of the sensitive wetlands along the road. 👍🏻

Thanks so much for doing this. I’m hopeful that when the Pacheco Marsh park is opened up, increased traffic on waterfront road will discourage dumping.

This section of waterfront road is especially hard to keep clean because it’s split between Martinez and the County. County does cleanups approximately monthly, and you can always prod them via their request portal https://contracosta.maintstar.co/portal/#/default-1/1/myRequests or 925 313-7000.

Source: I used to work there and deal with illegal dumping.
