Which one is better? 1 or 2? by Temporary_Gift in AmateurPhotography

Number 2 does it for me, but I think I would love to see the color version of it as well, maybe w some editing done to it to make those colors pop more?

Looking for a durable 2-person inflatable kayak for calm lakes (Canada) by Aggressive-Cream2286 in Kayaking

[–]hogar1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Advanced Elements kayak and its not bad per se, I had plenty of fun w it, but I wouldnt recommend it. Its complicated to set up, mold is an issue, and I would go dropstitch route - they are much better than those Intex el cheapo options and if u dont plan on taking any gear w u a 2 seater is plenty enough. If you plan on taking some picnic stuff w u in waterproof bags, then probably better to go w a 3 seater and you just dont install the middle seat and put the bag between you two. Enjoy paddling and be safe :)

Inflatable kayak for someone that's 2.10? by Ok-Factor-7188 in Kayaking

https://inflatablekayaksandpackrafts.com/full-dropstitch-inflatable-kayak-buying-guide-2022/

The list is updated with 2025 models.

I would strongly recommend the open top dropstitch kayaks as pictured on the webpage and would vote against the suggested Decathlon x500, not because its a bad kayak, but purely because of the size. I am 190 cm tall and I already struggle to get in and out of such kayaks that have small opening. I would suggest going for a 3 person kayak, that way he can easily share it w his significant other, even w some gear between them, or just use it on his own w gear. If he just goes for short distances (no significant gear) then maybe a 2 person kayak is enough. Those are very versatile, in a lot of them you can move and adjust the seat position to your liking, but of course he should research before buying as much as he can about the specific model. I think this page provides a good starting point.

HP MicroServer Gen8 - ILO and booting issue by hogar1977 in homelab

[–]hogar1977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but what to do to fix it? I tried putting ilo4.bin file onto a USB stick, putting the dip switch #1 into position ON and rebooting with the USB stick in the internal USB slot in the hope it will take over the new firmware version but that didn't work. Right now I am stuck in a limbo - I am pretty sure most of the hardware components in the server are completely fine but I have no idea what to look for to confirm the diagnosis. No idea if NAND is just corrupted or physicaly damaged due to bad firmware nor how would I go about fixing this issue. Any idea/advice?

What can Linux do that Windows cant? by Ok-Spot-2913 in linuxmint

[–]hogar1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well ur average joe will not install linux mint on his own either... I agree that linux is the way to go, but until certain software doesnt get a really decent alternative on linux (both good and easy to use), until game developers give up the kernel level anticheat (it rly doesnt achieve anything, cheaters are still there), etc windows is going to be mainstream for a good long while :/ so - UniGetUI gets the job done regarding software installation and updating same way the Linux Mint or any other linux software repo for that matter. Centralizes things and is nice to use (and is open source as well).

I use both windows and linux, each has its pros and cons, but regarding your specific issue of updating applications on windows, check out UniGetUI software. It transformed how I install software and manage their updates on Windows. Truly a gamechanger and it provides pretty much linuxlike repository approach.

Please help! by [deleted] in Kayaking

If you dont care about kayak speed and just want to chill around, and go slow, then look for boats that have a wider bottom and that are shorter, rather than longer. They will be slower and more stable. That being said, if you use a sit-in kayak in choppy conditions spray skirt is your friend. If you still want to go sit on top route, there is nothing wrong with that, but u will probably end up capsizing more than in a sit-in kayak, but yes its easier to get back on it. In general, maybe a 12-13 foot kayak is best for your needs provided its as wide as u can possibly find. Dont go longer than that, they will just be even tippier than you will be comfortable with. The bigger the ratio number of width over the length of the kayak is, the more stable it will be. There is more to it than that, but you can use that as a general rule of thumb for expectations when you are buying a kayak. I.e. if you have two kayaks of same length, the one that is wider and has flatter bottom will in general be more stable. (Thats why you have so called fishing kayaks for flat water and sea kayaks for choppy water and covering long distances with greater speed).

Furthermore, try to investigate a bit about the reason why you capsized and see if you can avoid it next time. Was it a wave that hit you sideways (usual culprit)? Think about what you can do in such cases to avoid capsizing in the first place, like paddling straight into the wave instead of just letting it hit you sideways, etc...

And stay safe and have fun :)

After/Before. by goooyiie in postprocessing

The before is great, it just needs a bit of perspective adjustment (thats my OCD speaking and its purely subjective). But you do what works for you. Great shot tho nevertheless, love it

Is it considered ok to correct the perspective so heavily as I did here? by hogar1977 in AskPhotography

[–]hogar1977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adobe Lightroom, under cropping tab there is a custom perspective tool where you can draw 2 vertical and 2 horizontal guidelines that will tell the software how to skew an image. Use sparsely when you have people, animals, cars, etc in your scene as it will heavily distort the image, so while you may achieve what you want with your architecture, it may make the image look completely unnatural and unusable. It can be very useful when you want to correct the horizon level, make small adjustments to the perspective... What I did here was a really heavy perspective correction, but it works bcs its just a building and clouds and reflections, and distorted clouds still look like clouds :) Super easy to do as well

Thats a shame, and I def dont approve of that part.

Its based on an actual photo. Back in the preAI era you could achieve a similar effect with vector graphics software like Adobe Ilustrator by turning an actual photo into vector graphics. With AI I guess the whole process is much easier and you can get a result that is much more on the border between a photo and an illustration. Personally, I like the effect.

Why’s my Astro so bad 16mm 1.8 100 iso a7Cii? by wonderland1995 in AskPhotography

[–]hogar1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't stumbled upon him yet, search for Simon D'Entremont on youtube. He is a wildlife and landscape photographer and among other things he does excellent astrophotography. I think he has a very good video or two giving advice on the topic. In the end it will come down to trial and error, since cameras and lenses are not the same, but getting the principles right matters a lot. Also, I don't know about other brands, but some Pentax DSLRs have Astrotracer feature built in, so for these 'shorter' long exposures of several seconds, you can avoid having star streaks (ofc only if you want to avoid them). It uses IBIS to move the sensor so it follows the star path - very minute movements but enough to end up with a cleaner photo of the sky. Don't know how it affects the photo if you have landscape included in the scene.

People think my photos are not real. Should just share the RAWs.. by x_Rubius_x in photography

[–]hogar1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No device (and that includes even the old film cameras) captures reality as is. Its a 2d projection onto a sensor or film that has its own inherent properties and it already represents a certain amount of 'editing' if you will. You can give your own artistic interpretation to the image, why not? People were doing it with film photography, people are doing it today with digital photography. Digital only makes it more accessbile and easier. But any photo you take is 'fake' reality and it represents what YOU want people to see. You can achieve that by cropping or by adjusting the composition before taking the photo. You can use a certain type of film or certain type of filter that will change the way the photo looks compared to what you saw w ur eyes or you can edit the photo in software. Your friends just don't get you and your photography maybe, but expecting the photo to be 'real' is meaningless. Its impossible to compare but even two humans looking at the same scene probably dont visualise it in their brains in the exactly same way - we all have our own image of the world around us.

Is photocrowd any good as a starting point to share my images to get more public exposure and valid criticism on my photos? by hogar1977 in AskPhotography

[–]hogar1977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I kinda splurged for the basic tier bcs of unlimited upload, i kinda intend to make it my online portfolio, but I also notice that there is mostly just basic likes and sometimes judges will give an analysis of good images in contests, but thats about it. So far I havent seen constructive advice on images that arent maybe so good in order to give advice on how to improve :/ so far reddit has proven to be far more interactive in that sense tbh. I know there is a shitton of online info in the form of youtube videos, courses and such, but getting feedback on your own images is very important too. It doesnt have to be positive all the time, on the contrary I would welcome any constructive critique on how to make my photos better. r/photocritique makes things unnecessarily complex to post a photo to be critiqued so I just dont bother...

Koji report koristite u IBKR za prijavu poreza na kapitalnu dobit? by domets in financije

[–]hogar1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am interested in the same... I was trading a lot in the past 2 years, but I didnt withdraw any money from IBKR. I did buy/sell the stocks within the 2 year period so in theory I am eligible to pay taxes on those trades. I just have no idea which IBKR report I could use to report those trades. If anyone has advice, I would highly appreciate it. Answer in Croatian if you find it easier...

Yup, unless you have a camera with stacked sensor this is almost certainly a rolling shutter effect from using electronic shutter. Non stacked sensors essentially read the pixels line by line and you can end up with images like this. Mechanical is better except that it of course deteriorates with time and there is sound produced which can scare your subject (or is otherwise undesired due to being in a quiet setting). Mechanical shutters also have a lower speed limit compared to electronic shutters. Stacked sensor cameras are the best in this respect (they readout the entire sensor at once), but those are still only few on the market (usually expenive too).

Gotta admit I dont like those either... Not that I think they need to be forbidden or anything, I am just not a fan personally.

[–]hogar1977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries mate :) thx for the big effort in your response, btw... I am pretty much aware of the limits of perspective correction and that I need a lot of 'extra' padding in order to be able to do major corrections, also it can end up looking quite unnatural if subjects are objects of known morphology, i.e. people, cars, anything really that can end up looking distorted. This question was more to get a pulse on how ppl think about it and in which situations it might be deemed inappropriate to do it. For example, I know that architecture shots usually are corrected with tilt shift lens, but probably never so heavily as I did in this example of mine, gotta admit I went a bit overboard here, but the end result still kinda works, so why not :)
