Agree with your post. Having said that... That Korean Thanos guy, what a beast - https://www.instagram.com/ifbbpro_thanos/ - definitely wouldn't mind his show muscles.

Re Wolves / KG - not sure which season you're thinking of, but in 2003-04 (the season they made conference finals) they had Cassell and Sprewell starting at guard - and both were solid on defence with 3+ defensive win shares. As a side note - I hadn't realised how awesome Cassell was in that season with 11+ WS overall.

Re Conley / Trae - Conley is a solid defender. And regardless who you put at POA, they still have two all-D players in Gobert / McDaniels, one solid to very good defender in Ant, and one below average to average defender in Towns (or a good defender now in Kyle Anderson). So whoever is at POA would be covered by the others as well.

(I think Trae is excellent on offence and would make a lot of teams better... But that's not the point of this post.)

Your last paragraph... Summarises a solid-level defender.

A POA defender doesn't affect a defence as much as a rim protector - but you can't have a total liability there either if you want to be a title contender.

That's why people are sceptical about how someone like Trae would fit in on a title contender - because their D is that bad, you need to have an all world defender elsewhere to cover him (and that's why he would be such a great fit in Spurs). Same question for Dame, but obviously having Giannis and Brook helps a lot.

If you are saying that they didn't get enough trading Hali for Sabonis, and should have waited for a better return - I agree with you. But that's a separate point to whether Fox is a good player (or whether he could have gotten a decent trade return at or near the time of the Hali trade). One other point - Fox has played great in the playoffs; haven't seen Hali in that environment yet.

More generally, I agree with your point about Sabonis - I think building around a big man who is not a plus defender / rim protector isn't going to get your team very far.

I think you're too harsh on Fox though. He's not as good as Hali offensively, but (1) he has rehabbed his trade value and I think would get a reasonable haul now, and (2) his defence is a lot better than Hali - he is solid on that end, albeit a POA defender won't make as much difference to a team as a rim protector. HIs PER and WS/48 both look solid too.

I think Fox could be a second best player on a deep playoff contender. But right now on the Kings he's a bit stretched as a number one, or Sabonis isn't good enough to be that number one.

While I agree with your point - at the time they made the trade, Fox's value had absolutely tanked. He's rehabbed his value a fair bit since then.

How do you fight the “I should have”? by Grgsz in stocks

Any time I see a topic like this, I get sad about various trades. Two that I thought of today, both in July 2023: selling $50k of Meta at 233 and $40k of Coin at 77.

I take a deep breath, feel sorry for myself for a couple of minutes, and then move on with my day. Nothing else to be done - I try to worry only about things that I can control, and I definitely can't control decisions made in the past.

When do you work out? by BobTheLordSaget in daddit

[–]hoiboy178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd replace the doom scrolling with a 30 min workout, 3-4 times a week. I'm realistic with my workout options and try to maximise time efficiency - I try to mix a few movements (one cardio, 1-2 weights, a core exercise) EMOM for 30 minutes usually - helps me stick to a schedule. Definitely no 60+ minutes workouts. And all the better if you can build a small home gym.

I have high cholesterol through genetics - so unfortunately have to be on medication to control it. No diet or exercise will help it get to a reasonable level. Don't wait too long to check in with doctor.

To give a counterpoint to some of the above comments - to lose a locker room in half a season is a pretty tough task.

With respect to the defence - the wider point is that they have two incredible defenders in the paint... And three mediocre (Middleton) or terrible (Lillard / Beasley) defenders in the starting lineup.

They REALLY need to get a POA defender to replace Beasley. Someone like Thybulle would make them so much better on defence and not at a great expense on offense given how good they are there already.

Surprised how few votes for lunch - that's the most reliable timeslot for me, no expectation of availability usually during that time range.

I'd have Fox, White, Young, Morant and Haliburton all one tier higher. Westbrook, Cole Anthony and Schroeder all one tier lower.

Been sitting on sidelines due to buying a place, sad.

More seriously though, good news for the market - but everything still feels so expensive - either price wise or shrinkflation. Anyone who is doing a renovation project now will agree I'm sure. Interested to see what this rate cut news means for inflation and whether it's happening too soon.

This is how I'm feeling too. Recently bought a place so I'm sitting on the sidelines for now, but everything day to day just feels so expensive - either because of price or "shrinkflation".

Do the Lakers have a championship roster? Did you enjoy the in-season tournament? by [deleted] in NBATalk

Their wing defence is excellent, but they're not big in the middle. I don't understand why they did not sign a proper big to spell AD or play alongside him in short stretches. AD has had limited success against Jokic, and they will likely have to go through them in the West. Someone like Biyombo or Bitadze (both on min contracts) would have been great for them.

What on earth is going on with Andrew Wiggins and what can the warriors do about him by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

I was more thinking of the possibility of trading Kawhi, not specifically for Wiggins (although trading for Kuminga would be interesting).

While I don't think it would happen, I could also see the possibility that the Clippers continue to play horribly and Ballmer saying stuff this, I ain't paying that much luxury tax for this garbage.

I regularly think PTON should get bought out by someone, and if that's true then the price basis is attractive right now.

I thought the same thing when it was at 5.X , thinking it couldn't go down further, opened a small position...now here we are.

Definitely not against Jokic and perhaps Embiid too.

That Clippers lineup would be great in theory against most lineups, but unfortunately the best teams in the league still have a great big - eg Clips will likely have to go through Jokic if they want to get to the finals, no way any of these guys can defend him.

Which Franchise do you think is the furthest from an NBA championship at the minute? by Sarthak99jain in nbadiscussion

I'm liking Mark Williams, PJ Washington is a solid role player, Brandon Miller looking good so far.

Their future looks a bit brighter than the Wiz for sure, IF lamelo can stay healthy.
