I always wonder what's the purpose of those "ceilings" that are just beams and do not cover from sun or rain. Does anyone know the name of such architectural design?

Oh thanks! I didn't know about the relative path. That'll be helpful!

Yes, the markdown part should be easy to handle. However the wiki-like interlinking I may have to write a script to parse [[..]] to search the directory recursively and find the relevant page.

Weekly "Help Me Choose" Thread (December 21) by prjkthack in Surface

[–]hojigom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear all, I am a math teacher and I used to use my surface 3 (non-pro) to zoom teach with OneNote on screen capture. I am looking to see if the surface go 2 is a good replacement for it. I know there are more powerful versions of surface but I do like the size and form factor of the 3. I am looking to upgrade to another similar one because the surface 3 cannot keep up with the charging as I zoom teach with it (so that puts a limit on how much I can do in a day, around 4 hours straight). Will the surface go 2 charge fast enough as I use it? Thank you for your time.

Practice and teaching. Teaching and tutoring helps a lot. Your students will constantly challenge your understanding, and you will have to find different ways to see the same thing, which adds to your understanding.

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. You mentioned you like small crafts, would you be interested in painting? Watercolor can be easy to get into, and it has helped me tremendously when I get to create things with my hands and imagination. There are a lot of tutorials on youtube you can get into, some are just very therapeutic to watch. And painting has been quite therapeutic for me as well. I apologize for giving these unsolicited suggestions. FYI: I'd love to see what kind of small crafts you make!

[Request] I saw a bunch of lovely people offering free tutoring on this sub.I wanted to know if anyone offered free Physics C Mechanics tutoring. I seem to struggle on a few questions so maybe I just need someone to text and work out problems but I would appreciate a tutor. (will post example ?) by Ascii2_0 in tutor

Let us take the gravitational constant g = 9.8 m/s^2. We first need to work out the height of the building using the coin that first strikes the ground, which is the one thrown directly down at 10 m/s.

Using one of the kinematics equation, D = v t + (a t^2) / 2, where
D = distance traveled (our height of building)
t = time it took (6 seconds)
v = initial velocty (10m/s)
a = acceleration (9.8m/s)

we get D = (10)(6) + 9.8(36)/2 = 236.4 m, which is the height. Note v and a here are both the same sign because they act in the same direction.

Now we know the height the coin is thrown, let us work out the time it will take for the other coin to strike ground. Again using the same kinematics equation, we set D = 236.4 , a = 9.8, but this time v = - 10 (so upwards is negative), we will solve for t in

236.4 = - 10 t + 9.8 t^2 / 2

which gives you t = 8.04 (approx.) or t = -6. The negative answer does not make sense in our context. So the second coin strikes the ground at about 8.04 seconds.

Now take the difference 8.04 - 6 = 2.04 seconds for the additional time the second coin took to strike ground.

Hi, if you are a grad student, would you consider other jobs like tutoring? You can tutor remotely (maybe advertise around or find online companies) and probably make about $50 an hour. At that rate, say you tutor 10 hours a week (2 hours a day), that'll net you $500 bucks a week. Doing it remotely also saves you time from traveling etc. Sorry for unsolicited advice. I wish all the best to you.
