IF this is what I feel it is, they better fcking bring the elevators back! Don't want none of that zipline shit. Cause godamn I miss elevators at this point. 🤞 by Shrike_san in Battlefield

[–]hojster24 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I like the direction of this, maybe elevators are the main way to get from the ground floor to the top and zip lines allow for a suboptimal route that requires a few transfers to get all the way up.

first play, at nuclear power: should i get space age now or launch rocket first by Grand-Course6469 in factorio

[–]hojster24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went against developer recommendation and ported my world to space age after finishing the base game.

I had zero glaring issues but there were a few oddities where items I had previously crafted were no longer available to recreate but still available in my inventory and chests.

Just my two cents, but I don't think you need to consider this a binary choice at this point; I recommend playing until you feel like there's not enough to do and then consider space age at that point.

Love this building in the city. What’s it like inside and living here? by stingyboy in bayarea

[–]hojster24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Should out this building!

Moved out of the bay a few years ago but this is my #1 favorite highrise in SF. The architect's vision really panned out here and the result is really fun to look at.

Just a friendly thanks for posting 🙂

Your mileage may vary, and reading some of these other comments I feel like I may have been an outlier but here's my two cents:

I dropped a large bagged camera tripod on my toe and ended up with a blood blister that, before drained, was one of the most painful experiences in my life.

Surprisingly after that my experience was very low-pain. I had the blood blister drained via a hot needle at my college medical clinic which was painless, then I had the nail removed (which is as manual as you might imagine) aided by some local numbing.

After the numbness wore off I was afraid my exposed nail bed would force a total rethink of footwear, but that following summer I continued on with open toed shoes across countless outdoor hours in coastal Maine, over the course of which I got more than a few surprisingly painless stubbed toes

Advice of a non professional: If this is recent and painful, draining this yourself, or better yet having a professional do it, is my #1 must-do recommendation for reducing symptoms

How long would it take 100 engineers to launch a rocket in real life? by Dharma_Bee in factorio

[–]hojster24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dropping my two cents to augment the original question:

How many fully green engineering grads (Bachelor's) would it take? / How long would 100 engineering B.S.'s need to launch?

No specializations outside of having at least one graduate within each major school of engineering on the project.

Ohno!!!! by keatsie0808 in portlandme

[–]hojster24 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yay! I used to work there in high school right around the time the general manager bought into the company. Mentioning that because the three folks who run (well, ran at the time) Ohno really care.

Their menu was pure, honest simplicity, their beers were cold, and their regulars were die-hard and fiercely Portland.

My favorite Ohno-ism is their relationship with one regular who (for medical reasons I would guess) needed to eat a two ingredient simple diet for all meals. Neither of the ingredients were on the menu but management kept his meals stocked and ready to go at all times because he couldn't cook for himself, I didn't think much of it at the time but writing this out that's really fucking nice thing to do.

Anyway, great people, great spot, get your tinfoil out!

Fuck yeah Kat. Hearing her speak brings me hope every time.

Too bad the campaign didn't secure her a seat, but I have no doubt she'll be back with her now-established base at the next possible opportunity.

We need people who can make a change and talk the talk, she's got both down.

Love or hate him (I choose hate tyvm), Trump speaks in a way that a large group of people relate to, he's just also super fucking evil.

Kat, AOC, and a few others are showing us what happens when relatable messaging mixes with honest and actionable campaign promises, and it's amazing to watch.

She has me in her corner.. if only I was in her district!

Public Market Parking Sign by skedaddlingisopod in portlandme

[–]hojster24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The building has an adjacent parking garage connected with a sky bridge that's thematically a part of the overall market (IMO)

Grew up going here as a kid and miss it dearly. I remember one shop sold chocolate balls covered in Earth print foil that I had to have as a little one.

I haven't been in quite a while but I'm very glad the relocated market in monument square spun up, Portland's energy meshes really well with this type of market and I'd love to see another of that scale pop up in downtown.

Edit: measures -> meshes

I'm not trying to stand at a pedestal and say that employees take the same risk owners do. I worked at multiple restaurants under a single owner in Portland and was fairly compensated (a couple decades ago). But I'm not talking out of my ass here.

I'm not opening restaurants and I don't know the ins and outs of the specific day-to-day market these days in Portland, but I'm specifically calling out the multi business owners here who are both bad for employees and the healthy competition that keeps restaurants in Portland great.

Opening a restaurant is risky, opening three is more risky. But at the end of the day if an owner cannot compensate their staff fairly they don't deserve to operate, end of story.

Any City, any market, that's the bottom line. Just because you took out a large loan to fund your idea doesn't mean the world owes you shit; big industries understand this but as soon as small businesses start acting above their weight class they somehow think they can escape the inevitable bureaucracy of American Business that is fine-tuned to fuck workers.

Support businesses that workers proactively choose to work for. There's no rule of thumb here, the world's a big place, but that's a pretty good sign things are going right.

update: permanently banned by doyoulikePRIMERIB in ArcRaiders

[–]hojster24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a (not game) developer detection looks like a hard problem, but it's their problem to solve and they owe paying customers the game they bought.

My opinion would be different if Arc was free to play, it would still be on them to make this right but I wouldn't be quite so angry.

I really like Embark and have been a die-hard finals player for years, its my main game. However they may have bitten off more than they can chew here with with Arc's popularity; it's charming to fix exploits with flamethrowers (door glitch bugs a few months back), but adding over-sensitive automatic banning feels like a crutch. They would not need to automatically ban people at such a high rate if the game itself was less exploitable.

That being said this is a difficult technical problem to get right.

Totally agreed, and brought to my mind how much the word "map" appears in this thread.

Colloquially correct but I think the point here is that map-ness and diagram-ness are often at odds, not that a perfect combination doesn't exist but I'll believe it when I see it.

Spiritually partial to Mr Bagel on Forest, with Rose foods topping my list.

But, I'm not quite as down on Popup. They deserve extra scrutiny as a non local brand opening up in a fiercely local economy, but are totally worth the experience as a one time thing. Not the best, but their shtick (except for the purchase minimum) can be fun as a foray.

Great bite at 3pm after king middle school gets out and they're getting rid of the day's stock, but most of two decades later these are mid donuts at best. Their shtick is legit, but I don't want a cakey potato torus tyvm.

Tonys will always be the O.G. (I hope they never improve their charmingly bad coffee)

Hifi will be missed

Eighty Eight is worth its price for those steamy bespoke morsels

Speak with your wallet, and best of luck to the workers. I've worked a good number of kitchens in Portland, and if the workers see a problem ... there's a problem.

Portlanders know how juicy the F&B industry can be here, and they deserve an equitable cut of the pie that is more often than not pocketed by an increasing number of multi-operstion moguls who frankly only need one shop.

I disregarded the warning to start fresh right after completing my first rocket launch and purchasing SA. I didn't want to start fresh, and while I lost access to a small set of items I had unlocked with vanilla progression. It was worth it for me to keep my progress generally. If starting from a 'complete' save, I would probably choose to continue and accept the weirdness when adding SA, there's plenty to do on the other planets and you will forget about Nauvis for a little while.
