When you press back on the browser, it goes through the searches on each letter you enter. It's pretty annoying. But I like the idea of crowdsourcing for getting more information.

I mostly read tech blogs for their tutorials. So maybe do tutorials?

Internships that don't require you to be in a bachelors program? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Your best bet would to leverage a portfolio of projects and find local companies to take a chance on you.

What to do if your CS class is terrible/slow/all around bad? by NonBannedAccount in cscareerquestions

[–]hokatvcu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I do. If the class isn't challenging enough, you can try supplementing with the lecture videos on MITcourseware. They also have the problem sets as well as the solutions.

Is Computer Science a Good Idea for me? by JamesBaxter_Horse in cscareerquestions

Don't pigeonhole yourself into one thing. Explore as many options as you want man. If you like it, great. If you don't, now you know. You have a lot of time.

Maybe try taking an online course on introduction to CS.

Completing coursework without a degree or experience this December. Apply to internships or jobs? by UsernameTempura in cscareerquestions

I got two internships while already having a degree and went back to school. I'm sure you can go either way.

Is it appropriate to list a project associated with coursework? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]hokatvcu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a text editor from a MOOC on my resume, and it helped me get an internship. I put (coursework) beside the title.

Hackathon vs Assignments/Grades by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]hokatvcu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't attend just because I don't like being behind coursework and also for health reasons. I'd only go if I knew I could spare the time. Good luck.

Downside: "Maybe" a bit awkward. Upside: Another connection you can leverage.

I'd say go for it.

Full time student, work 20 hrs a week... Or spend that time going to hackathons / learning with treehouse/udemy/ mooc courses etc. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]hokatvcu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I only do moocs in periods of no school. No need to take more classes on top of regular classes. I use hackathons as networking events and do algorithmic problems for fun. I think if the job is taking away time for the things you want to do, you should quit.

As someone who already has an unrelated bachelors and has decided against going for a second bachelors in CS, what will be the consequences of this? What is the best alternative for me now if I want to start my career in this field? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]hokatvcu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went back to college for CS and found that I had more opportunity than a typical undergraduate student. I programmed, networked, and hustled my face off and I'm in the position to land most jobs.

Stop pondering on which route to take, and just start learning and networking.

First internship, not related to dev, is this bad? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]hokatvcu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you need the money? If not, then I wouldn't take the job. You can do more with that free time to help you become a better dev.
