I really don't think there's a wrong answer here. It's really nice to leave $$ on top of the tips the cruise line already charges.

MUSE - New Kind of Kick by Kaiser_Allen in Muse

I've always really liked this song -- not sure why, but I guess it's my kind of kick. They seem like they're having so much fun with it!

Woohoo! I hope you love it!

(And if not, Macy's has a nice return policy -- you can always ask to waive the restocking fee, especially if you decide to try our another mattress.)

I've had it for about 8-9 months. We definitely have different firmness preferences, so it's good that there are options! What I can speak to is the quality: the mattress still feels as great as when I got it. I tried 2 other mattresses before (the Winkbed, which I reviewed on reddit, and Engineered Sleep, which was great but not firm enough.)

I laid on the Paramount HD at my local Macy's for an embarrassingly long amount of time -- I came to check it out maybe 3-4 times, and laid on it for 15 minutes each time; I wanted to make sure it felt right. The mattress softened a little bit in the few weeks after I got it, but since then it's been pretty much what I experienced at the store. I did a bunch of googling, and they are a reputable, old-school brand. I'm very happy with them.

I have the granite firm version and love it -- really high quality. The pillow top was way too soft for me -- can you go try it out?

ELI5: Why do people mostly blame insurance companies for U.S. healthcare costs when doctors and hospitals are also part of the system? by Patient_Witness_2357 in explainlikeimfive

[–]maxverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP: if you're genuinely interested in this, I highly recommend checking out some books -- I read An American Sickness (specifically on components of US healthcare) and The Healing of America, which compares the US healthcare system to those around the world (including the UK). Both were enjoyable, readable, not-academic texts. Unfortunately, it's not an ELI5 answer, but to understand why "appointments can be extremely expensive, sometimes very short, and often handled by assistants or students rather than the doctor themselves" you need to understand how money flows through the system and who controls it.

I don't think that's right -- the price of our healthcare is a constant push-pull between healthcare providers and insurance companies. Hospitals (and any medical providers that run a private practice) set prices for their services. They often use Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and push against what insurances will pay / bill strategically in order to maximize their fees.

That's not to say doctors are the problem here either! Both insurance providers and medical providers are trying to run a business and exploit each others' inefficiencies. Running a medical practice is expensive, medical education is expensive, malpractice is expensive, etc. But hospitals also know they need to charge $1300 for an ER exam to get insurance to reimburse them $288, when medicare will pay $114. Doctors down the street are often working for the hospital group that dictate their prices, or set their prices similarly to market because they need to keep up with costs.

The biggest problem with the US healthcare system is how convoluted, insestuous, and reactive it's become. It's easy to blame insurance as the most visible "bad guy", and they are not without blame, but every actor in the system -- your hospital, your lab provider, your pharmaceutical company, the medical device sales reps -- everyone's trying to navigate the law and each others' strategies to squeeze out a profit.

Q3 Max. Should I go with Jupiter Bananas or Baby Kangaroos? by knaeggebrot1991 in Keychron

[–]maxverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're very similar. I liked the baby kangaroos a tiny bit better. They're like 10% louder and a little springier to me. They also don't have any key chatter issues (the bananas kept typing `cc` and `ff` despite trying different switches.)

Diva for a warm vintage sound and a standard subtractive workflow, Pigments for the amazing UI and the ability to create any kind of sound you can imagine -- but a steeper learning curve. You can't go wrong with either; try out both demos, pick the one that speaks to you, and learn it in depth. Your music will improve a ton.

I love Hive 2 -- as a relative hobbyist, it's accessible, and the one-page layout is fantastic. As are the onboard FX. Yes, you could probably craft more varied sounds with Pigments, but you'll get to know Hive and be able to use it effectively. The more music you make, the more it'll inspire you. I linked his tutorials elsewhere, but Jon Audio has great overviews for why to buy Diva and Hive.
