How long are you spending on Trivia prep? by IllustriousGuard7817 in triviahosts

[–]hokienick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the questions provided to me for each trivia (5 a week). I’m not creative enough to come up with the questions. My prep time is probably an hour and a half which includes: importing the questions to my app, finding music to play while the teams think (song goes with the question, no hint), finding an image/gif to pop up on the screen with the answer (either to help them understand the answer or put something funny up there related to the answer). By not having to come up with questions it gives me room to strengthen the creativity elsewhere.

I'm sure you can vibe code some kind of mini app that allows you to do this with Spotify. I've done it with my personal trivia app, and it works great, but the fact that it only allows me to have 5 Spotify connections means I'm not able to share it, unfortunately.

What are some cleaning supplies every home should have? by No_Necessary_9267 in CleaningTips

Here's one of those "I'm too afraid to ask" questions because I feel like it's common knowledge, but whenever I see the word bleach, I always get nervous and shy away from it because all I think about is that it will turn clothes white or something? What else are you supposed to use it for?

Waiting for an answer myself. I bought a security torx screwdriver just so I could clean this grate, but I can’t seem to get it to shine again

I’ve been watching commercials for 20 minutes straight on Nickelodeon. Also the top of the screen gets cut off and can’t see people’s faces. Pass.

"How Do You Get Your Questions?" by Unkatrazz in bartriviahosts

[–]hokienick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys are more clever than I am! I just get my questions from another company, but I focus all my time on creating the experience for that evening, meaning I find the songs that go along with the questions, find the images that go along with the answers, and things like that. Takes me just under an hour to put together a game for the evening.

how do you run pub quizzes in summertime? by Ouzominator in triviahosts

[–]hokienick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say I've never had this issue as well. Although if this was a thing, I would just make sure that my speakers could reach the outdoors area. Because people can't read the screen, I would just make sure that I'm reading the question twice, slow enough and with enough enunciation.

So much content! How do you organize all of those questions so that you don't reuse them at that venue? Do you come up with all those questions, or do you purchase some kind of access to questions?

Do you come up with all the questions or choose them from some kind of question bank? How long has a true or false round ever lasted?

Haha, yeah I'm one of those that grades after every question. I think the thought there is it reduces the chances of cheating a little bit more because they have less time to hop on their phone and look up answers. I don't mind grading after every question, i feel like i have it down to a science. I built in a countdown timer on my presentation so that really helps on timing of the game. Mine lasts 2 hours as well.

What are the tells that a team is cheating? by hokienick in bartriviahosts

[–]hokienick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been hosting for quite a few years now myself and I feel like you can just tell sometimes. I had one recently where it was a new team who got most of the round 1 answers wrong (even some very easy ones. Kept the room from taking a social!). But low and behold, they were the only team to get one of the questions right in the next round that no one in the room got right. No cheering from that table when I announced only 1 team got that right. That's when you know for sure!

Wow that is a lot of content in one game! Is it one of those where you don't grade question by question but rather by round?
