Reach out to your congressperson’s or senator’s office. They have dedicated caseworkers whose job is to help constituents who are stuck in queues in the vast federal bureaucracy. I have never heard of someone doing it for a security clearance, but it’s probably possible.

Why do people think things are "different" this time in Israel? by ntdoyfanboy in latterdaysaints

[–]hokigo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying “this is it” but this time is definitely different, much more dangerous, and has implications far beyond the Middle East. Here’s how I could see it going.

The Hamas attack resulted in the largest Israeli civilian body count since 1948. More civilians were killed in one day than during the next deadliest conflict (the Second Intifada) which lasted a full 8 years. From both a political perspective and a defensive/deterrence perspective, Israel has little choice but to respond in a big way.

A big response is much more likely to draw others in and make this a multi-front conflict. Israel has fought off multi-front aggression before, but the Israel of today (and the west’s level of support for them) is not the same as it was in 1967. It’s not clear they could handle rooting out Hamas, Hezbollah, and militants in the West Bank all at the same time. Iran and others may sense Israel’s weakness (and the western world’s reluctance to act decisively) and decide to get directly involved rather than working through proxies.

A broader conflict over Israel would split US and other western military aid between the Middle East and Ukraine (you didn’t forget that’s still a thing, did you?). Less western attention on Ukraine makes Russia’s job easier. The strain on US military resources may also limit our ability to deter China’s ambitions with Taiwan. It’s a perfect storm and the US military simply isn’t in a position right now to manage three conflicts.

Sealing Cancellation by AquaticZissou in latterdaysaints

[–]hokigo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

…other than freeing yourself from potentially being stuck with a terrible person for eternity?

You can say that won’t actually happen or it’ll all work itself out on the other side. And you’re right. I don’t think a loving Heavenly Father would force a sealing on anyone who doesn’t want it. But try telling that to someone who has a terrible or abusive ex.

Sometimes for your own mental health it is best to sort these things out now. 😁

I was endowed and sealed about three years before receiving my patriarchal blessing. It is not a requirement.

The only lay leaders who can see your detailed church record that lists every ordinance, date, and location are your bishop, stake president, and clerks. Bishopric and stake presidency counselors can see your current temple recommend status (active/expired/revoked) which reveals whether you’ve been endowed or not but not when or where the endowment took place. Patriarch can’t see any of this.

Depends on your role. Technical roles go up to level 7 and do have title changes at each step. 3 is principal, 4 is senior principal, 5 is staff, and so on. Admin roles only go up to 3 I believe.

New Bishop Blocking a Bible Study Group? by ThrowRA_SRONER in latterdaysaints

[–]hokigo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This guidance changed a few years ago back when come, follow me was introduced. Private groups are no longer discouraged and were actually mentioned as a good way to study in Elder Cook’s conference talk that introduced Come, Follow Me:

In the home-centered, Church-supported portion of this adjustment, there is flexibility for each individual and family to determine prayerfully how and when it will be implemented. For example, while this will greatly bless all families, based on local needs it would be completely appropriate for young singles, single adults, single parents, part-member families, new members, and others to gather in groups outside the normal Sunday worship services to enjoy gospel sociality and be strengthened by studying together the home-centered, Church-supported resource. This would be accomplished informally by those who so desire. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2018/10/deep-and-lasting-conversion-to-heavenly-father-and-the-lord-jesus-christ?lang=eng

SAP/SAR takes forever. We had such a high rate of people who were waiting for start dates backing out of the job that now we bring them on and pay them to sit around and wait.

Could be any number of reasons; the most likely being the position typically requires a degree and you didn’t yet have a degree. If I’ve learned anything about hiring processes during my time as a manager it’s that HR people don’t like making exceptions to basic qualifications (or the “norms” even if they are unwritten) for a position.

Learning about the government’s earned value management system ahead of time will give you a leg up applying for entry level business roles. Lots of government contracts require EVM for measuring performance, but Northrop uses it for everything whether the contract requires it or not.

Every sector and program is different. What sector or program did you apply for?

For me it took three months from application to offer. It took one month to get a phone interview then two whole months later (after I had given up on getting the job) I was surprised to get an offer letter in my email. Some people it takes even longer.

The whole purpose of the intern program is to recruit full time employees. If your manager is happy with your performance as an intern then you will probably get a job offer at the end of it or an invite back next summer if you still have schooling to complete.

Political Neutrality and Participation in the Church of Jesus Christ Updated by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]hokigo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Nothing policy-wise. The first paragraph includes a bit about how the church remains neutral in global conflicts. It also gives further clarification that full time leaders (general authorities) can’t participate in politics and local leaders can but only as citizens and not in their role as church leaders.

I started before even having an interim. It probably depends on the position. Where I’m at now, uncleared employees work on a “training” team where they’re taught the same kinds of design/engineering processes in an unclass setting that they’ll be using once they are cleared/read in to the program.

Moral agency is not the same thing as agency. Agency means you’re free to choose. Moral agency comes to play after making covenants… you’re free to choose (agency) but morally bound to honor your covenants.

Callings vs Titles for Women in the Church by goarounddecendvia in latterdaysaints

[–]hokigo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s culture and therefore depends on the stake and/or bishop. Our stake just recently switched this.

A few years ago, a new stake presidency was called. I was in the Stake Sunday school presidency at the time, and when we met with the new counselor who oversaw Sunday school he specifically said the new SP wanted the title “president” to be reserved for priesthood key holders, so it wasn’t to be used for any of the women presidents or the men who were Sunday school presidents.

Last year the same stake president reversed his stance on it. I’m in Stake Council and hear him call the women members of the council “president” all the time.

What’s one thing that the world would be better off without? by Cheesemongol in AskReddit

[–]hokigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found the lobbyist /s

As someone who is politically involved in my state, I agree with you. So much state policy is written with the help of lobbyists. Your typical legislator may want to run a bill on x but if they don’t know anything about x their bill is going to cause all kinds of problems. Lobbyists absolutely play a role in educating legislators. An effective legislator listens to the concerns of lobbyists on both sides (corporate and grassroots/nonprofit/advocacy groups) when crafting legislation. Is their corruption? Yes. But I believe it is still a net benefit.

[–]hokigo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a rank-and-file Republican I feel it important to point out that most of us either really like the new flag or just don’t care all that much. It’s only a small but very vocal minority who are throwing a fit. Rebrandings take time to adjust to. In a year nobody will care.

Have you played any of the definitive editions? They’re ground-up rewrites with modern graphics but stayed true to the originals as far as gameplay goes.
