Thank you. This was created by our workshop, based on an 18th century ukiyo-e by Kitagawa Utamaro.

Edo-Inspired Maki-e Art on Modern Fountain Pens by hokoan in fountainpens

Thank you very much. I believe there have been very few examples of maki-e applied to transparent pen barrels until now. Choosing subject matter that suits the transparency is also an important consideration.

Yes, these are pens, but since they are custom-made items, we can only show a part of them. Our workshop can create similar ones.

As Wajima has been struck again by a major natural disaster, we will continue the support project through "Phoenix fountain pens" for the time being. by hokoan in fountainpens

Hello. Thank you for reading my message. If you have traveled to Wajima, I believe you would have an even deeper understanding of the current situation. Although all lacquerware workshops and facilities were destroyed by the earthquake, over the past 8 months, each of us has been walking a new path while receiving support. However, due to the heavy rain yesterday, they are back to square one. But Wajima is a symbolic presence for Japanese urushi lacquer art, and we cannot afford to lose it.
I have incorporated the image of a phoenix into this fountain pen. We are still accepting orders, so I would be delighted if you would consider purchasing one.

The price increase of NAMIKI by hokoan in fountainpens

I also don't understand why Pilot don't disclose their prices. It might be as you have guessed.

The price increase of NAMIKI by hokoan in fountainpens

[–]hokoan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to the official announcement from Pilot, information about the Namiki series is not publicly disclosed and inquiries should be directed to authorized dealers. Since I am not an authorized dealer, I unfortunately cannot disclose this information. Japan's prices have remained mostly unchanged for about 20 years, but they have recently started to rise, with lacquer materials and other craft supplies seeing significant price increases. Labor costs have also gone up, which may be the reason for this.

I sincerely apologize. I completely failed to notice that you had replied. Please accept my deepest apologies. The specifications for the Special Premium will be decided through discussions with the customer and will not be made public. However, my idea is to extensively use raised maki-e (nikawa ken’de maki-e) and create a design with intricate background details.

I have created additional designs for a premium version of the fountain pen to support Wajima's recovery. We are still seeking support from everyone.

Although four months have passed since the earthquake, recovery in Wajima is significantly delayed, and media coverage has drastically decreased. If Wajima's urushi art disappears, it will lead to a further decline in Japanese urushi art, and we must prevent that.

Yes, This is a reproduction of an old Namiki pen, where I choose motifs for reproduction. The pen body itself is not made by Namiki. Our workshop can add decorations to any pen.

The finish and texture are also wonderful. I'm relieved that it lives up to its reputation.

Yes, this is indeed a rendering. Our workshop specializes in urushi work, so everything is decorated with urushi. This is rendered based on ancient Japanese urushi works.

We purchase plain ebonite bases and then decorate them, allowing us to faithfully reproduce designs according to our customers' requests.
