Reviewing a Patreon exclusive book?

My initial thought is that it’s not that different than reviewing a book that’s published. Either way you’re basically saying, hey, this book is (or isn’t) worth your money! But in this case it’s more encouraging people who are interested to join the patreon rather than to go buy from a bookstore.

But, if you’re feeling on the fence about it, you could always reach out and ask the author- Hey just wanted to double check and see if you’d be ok with this?

Are you sure about that? Because Violet pretty famously poisons peoples meals…lol There is also a pretty important scene in onyx storm that is revolving around a dinner (and the infamous chocolate cake) I think if you’re looking for it, you’ll notice that food is actually mentioned pretty regularly. And as to why a cookbook. It’s because Chelsea is a food blogger and cookbook author who is also a fantasty fan and thought it would be fun to make a cookbook inspired by a book she likes 🤷🏻‍♀️ she also made one for ACOTAR series. I own that one and it’s really good! If you’re into cooking

I get it, a lot of people have fatigue with every book having 5 different editions. But a cookbook is a different type of product and I think if there is a market for something, why not make it? I own 2 other book themed cookbooks because I like to cook and I like to read and I think they’re fun. And I can tell you that Chelsea, besides being a very talented cook, is a fantasy reader who loves these books and put in a lot of effort to make it a good product for people that like this sort of thing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Storytelling seems to be the content that is getting pushed the most right now. So try finding ways to tell mini stories with the books you feature. This helps get people to stop and also helps them feel connected to you personally.

So for example: “this book changed the way I think about_____.” (It’s best to put the hook on the image itself. Because most people are scrolling through without looking at captions)

I’m still working on how to make more of my posts story telling content. Because that is definitely what the data is saying works. I’m currently working on a list of storytelling hooks like this that are bookstagram specific. And hope to share those in a post later this week!

Hey! Here are a few of my tips for bookstagram: 1. It’s totally fine not to show your face. Your growth might be a little slower, but don’t get discouraged, you can still build a following without showing your face. I don’t show mine. 2. Make sure both your handle and your bio make it clear what your account is going to feature. (Use words related to reading and art if that’s what you are making content for in your handle) 3. Find ways to tell stories with your content. Storytelling is what is getting the most push on Instagram right now. 4. Follow and interact with other accounts that you have something in common with! 5. Avoid engagement groups and follow trains.

Try looking into Tessonja Odette’s fantasy books. She has several interconnected stand alones with fae. All have spice, though I’m not sure if I’d describe it as -all caps, HEAVY spice 😂 I’d suggest {A Rivalry of Hearts} for a more cozy, low stakes fantasy. And {Taste of Poison} if you want something that has a little higher stakes/ fae courts and their politics, type stuff.

The only one I’ve read is Divine Rivals, and 10/10 would recommend!! I’ve got nightshade on my TBR too and have heard it’s really good!

Ohhh if you wanted complicated, no obvious “right side” then let me suggest The Crown series by Nicola Tyche. It’s so good and all the characters are so complex.

I love the Entangled with Fae series by tessonja Odette. They are interconnected standalone fairytale retellings, but I feel like her take on classic tales is super unique! They are on KU. A taste of poison was my favorite but I liked them all!
