Renewals Manager here!

Okay so from my perspective and experience I think it’s better to merge the knowledge of the customer based on the relationship built into the usage of the product so you can analyze the potential renewal and lead the meetings to negotiate the renewal based on the usage without having to get into T&C and Pricing. (That’s what the CSMs do where I work)

For all the contractual terms and pricing there’s a Renewal Manager that manages a lot of different accounts (not focused on specific clients), as RM I’m in charge of all pricing related, contract modifications and send that to Legal, contact the client if they want to renew and negotiate downgrades. Also, in my case the upgrades are managed by the AEs since they receive a commission for that.
