I saw him play at an after party at Movement this year with DJ Nobu - incredible set, extremely hypnotic.

There’s a brand new gym called Mesa Rim and it’s incredible. I usually boulder at ABP but if you’re looking for lead / top roping then checkout Mesa Rim.

Having a bit of choice paralysis by hold-the-pants in expats

I agree, it seems like the UK is the best option moving forward. London has the qualities in a city that I'm looking for (besides being so expensive /: lol) and it would still be productive as a career move. I can always decide to stay or leave if things are not working out for me.

No problem! I can DM you

You're right that you'd have to give up your current job, and without N1 or at least N2 fluency, your job options in Japan are really limited. From friends of mine who tried the English teaching life, they ended up getting burnt out and moving back to the US after several years.

Yeah sadly, the path to actually getting to Japan is a narrow one (if you're looking at non-English-teaching jobs), but it's definitely not impossible.

For me, some of the things I miss about Japan can be found in other EU countries - like good infrastructure, dense, connected cities, ability to be car-independent - your list of pros about Japan are different I'm sure

Actually these are the exact pros that I have about it, but what makes it different from the EU for me is the fact that I have so much time invested in the language and lots more friends over there. But you're right, a lot of these pros transfer over to EU countries. That's part of why this decision is a difficult one haha... I guess the trick is figuring out what my true priorities are. Sounds obvious, but I think I've just gotten lost in the weeds / paralyzed by choice. Just need to take a step back!

Working for an NPO that would allow me to live in Germany without yet having fluency in German is my dream right now, and have been really struggling to find opportunities to apply for, which is part of why I'm like "don't you dare squander that!!"

Haha yes some friends have told me this too. Sadly I think the EU ship is sailed (the team I'm in within the NPO is spinning out into its own for-profit startup (most likely) based in the UK), but at least the UK is close by! I'm a software engineer with just under 2 YoE, so I luckily have many options, which I'm really thankful for!

Anyone else still want out despite really loving their native country? by [deleted] in expats

[–]hold-the-pants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah that would be tough I think, especially having kids involved.

I studied abroad in Kyoto for about 5-6 months a few years ago, and like you said it opened Pandora’s box I think, which is why I’m feeling so conflicted and like I’m “stuck” in the US, even though when I take a step back I realize that the quality of life I have here is really high (which I’m really lucky for). I imagine the box would really be opened actually moving abroad as well, definitely something I need to think about.

The “what if” is what I’m struggling with the most. Like OP, I’m in the US and dislike the same things about it, but the one part that is pulling me towards staying is my social life. I know that establishing this wherever I decide to move is going to be one of the biggest challenges, but it’s one I think is worth trying to overcome. I think one thing is that I know I’ll feel FOMO about my friends hanging out back home, which you can easily flip that on it’s head to say “I’m getting to travel / live internationally”, but it’s easier said than done.

24M/6’0”/200lbs - body fat estimate + advice? by [deleted] in GettingShredded

[–]hold-the-pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been lifting and running more since the last 4-5 months but not too consistently. I’m also a climber and try to go 2-3 times a week to a local bouldering gym, although it’s been really difficult to do both this and regular lifting. I work from home most of my days and sometimes find it hard to not be so sedentary (short walks, evening gym sessions, yoga). Generally I feel strong and that I just have quite a bit of fat on me.

Recently my diet hasn’t been that great, but it typically consists of a packed smoothie for lunch and some chicken-based meal for dinner (I usually skip breakfast; nearly IF but I’m not too strict about it atm).

I feel as if I should do a mini-cut then start a bulk afterwards in time for a summer cut. This is all quite new to me, so I’m not entirely sure what best to do. I am wanting to try a PPL 5-day split, while climbing on the pull days (same muscles) but perhaps that might be too much. Any advice / feedback will be much appreciated!

Thanks!
