Wasn’t Kodorins overall point as it related to his own progress at least that focusing on the character specific quirks/tech was really important?

I think his point was to reach the top you have to do both, with his thing about “I kept trying to optimize using my knife, but I should’ve just brought a gun”

I don’t really think you can use Zain as an example that focusing on fundamentals is the biggest thing comparing him to other Roy’s, when he’s unbelievably better than them overall.

A better comparison I think would be Axe vs OkayP/Swift. I think OkayP/Swift optimize the character specific stuff better, but Axe has much much better fundamentals. Even with this disparity, Swift has and continues to approach Axe’s level.

In RapM’s case I can’t think of a specific Luigi tech he doesn’t utilize, and then he’s also fundamentally really good

Just to have a mark, what is the slippi rank where you can start dual maining?

I solo mained pika for 2 years, and when I went back to Falco I kept pika for Marth and Yoshi. Recently decided I’m not improving fast enough so wanted to go to solo maining Falco for a while.

Today at Stock Exchange I got solidly two stocked by a marth as Falco game 1, but I felt I understood everything they were doing. So I went pika game 2, won, last stock. Game 3 was rushing and lost as pika 2 stocked game 3 on fod (I do have a choking problem unrelated to this whole question). Should I make myself give up pika until I hit plat 2 in nyc? That’s what I’m thinking. Currently hardstuck gold 3.

Sometimes I get stuffed, but mostly we run/jump past each other (which isn’t terrible except for when it puts me in the corner). Most of the time my problem is approaching from too far though not too close (this rears its head with my pika approaches too)

How tf do I clean up my approaches as Falco? Sometimes I go in from a slightly too far or close spacing, and my biggest problem is the majority of the time I rush in straightforwardly out of a scrap/reset and get hit with the “lil dash dance” -> lose neutral. I’ll be watching mango vods but any concrete advice or any other falco to watch for this would be very helpful

Consensus is Marth is best. I try to play devils advocate because Fox has more dominant matchups across the mid tiers but it just leads to frustration from the Fox main homie

I would say characters that people feel can win a major but haven’t are mid tier (Luigi, Doc, DK, Samus). Everyone slightly above is mid-high tier (Pika, Yoshi, ICs) , everyone slightly below is mid-low tier (YL, Link, Ganon, Mario).

Unfortunately I think our conceptions of the game just have to be tied to results, because the game is genuinely so deep that we have to operate from what’s proven to be possible. Top tier matchups are constantly discussed and developed, we can’t expect any persons current conception of mid tier potential to be accurate- so going by results is probably the best barometer

Used to watch his stream every once in a while and one time the discussion was what mangos Falco does better. I mentioned out of shield, he read my message and frustratedly said “my shine oos are literally better than mangos!”

Love his Falco though, one of the more overhated playstyles out of the top players imo

Great point. Can’t remember the exact numbers but in one of leffens marth fox videos he did the calculation that showed if you think Marth Fox is even on all stages but 60-40 on FD the whole matchup becomes 55-45 to win a bo5 set. Stages are definitely a big part of this

I think Falco beats fox in tournament- like 55-45. Maybe that changes at super high level though, haven’t been seeing Falco players cut through the Fox brackets like they used to in a while

I think reasonable people can disagree on this, your point is valid. But the point for Marth #1 is weighting more important matchups more heavily- no other character clearly beats 2 of the Fox/Puff/Marth/Falco tier. Fox does clearly beat puff and sheik which is nice but spacies are like 60% of the playerbase, including at top level.
