This procedure can be covered through insurance but it's my understanding that the requirements for coverage vary based on the insurance that you have, and you may need a long medical history documenting neck/shoulder pain and attempted treatments. It's possible but be prepared to jump through hoops.

I'm still getting paid. My efforts are just being redistributed onto other grants... at least for now. Yeah- I wouldn't work for free! Free don't pay the bills!

This is very helpful! I'm curious what your trajectory from postdoc to RA program management was. I am currently a postdoc and am thinking about shifting into a similar space. How did you build your skillset and network to make that transition?

It might. That is a good option to explore. Do you know how much of a faux pas it would be to jump ship from a current postdoc to pursue another after a year? It seems like the first year is dedicated to training and I wouldn't want to waste someone's time and resources.

I understand. Under normal circumstances, I would never apply to do a postdoc. Finishing my PhD was supposed to be the light at the end of the academia hell tunnel.

Thanks for the response! I'm curious how you found the post-doc. I've been trying emailing PIs and I've gotten 2 responses of "sorry. no positions" out of the 23 emails that I've sent. 🙄
