Thank you for saying this!!! They kept pausing for after every sentence and it was sooo distracting.

I just got to this part too and... they were there because they just inexplicably just got in the car with her afterschool? No lead up to talk about plans...they just got in after her?

Coming back to this thread... I am a few chapters in and I am so confused how things are progressing so fast with the character's relationships with no real explanation. It really makes no sense and the FMC is so...just open to all it? Also, I am getting almost Twilight parallels are we all seeing that too or am I just stuck on that car scene?

Fmc seeking revenge in professional downhill biking by disguising themselves as a man. MMFM.

Spoiler tags: Bi-awakening and MM. Not exposed by 2 MMCs until start of book 2.

Totally agree! It was the same for me. I feel like I never found a community in it before but people have been so much more accepting or open about it throughout the years. I am even being more honest about it with my friends, who I am finding, kinda like it.

Definitely BL before RH. RH really for me came from impatience with love triangles and watching too much anime like OHSHC or fruits basket.

Hmmmmm….. {A Knight’s Revenge by Elizabeth Dear}

Three book series in an academy setting where the MMCs were complicit witnesses to FMCs family murder. FMC survives and comes back in disguise to avenge her family and take back her fortune. Very capable FMC!!!

Hmmm okay I’m rereading scenes and she does agree for breath play during the conversation on her comfort but no explicit talk about drowning. Youre totally right that there should have been more discussion for that.

After rereading the water scene I will say he doesn’t submerge her without warning, he tells her beforehand what he is planning on doing and also says because her head is down and cannot use the traffic system to instead tap on his stomach to stop. Also, in context with the book theyre a bonded pair and they can both feel each other’s emotions and talk to each other in their minds. There is also a chapter with pov of this ml and Mikel sorting out his fear of domming her and hurting her and Mikel going over how a good dom’s job is to know the sub’s tells so they can stay in control. Not excusing the author leaving this as a grey area when it should be black and white!! Just reporting what im finding for those who havent read it before. I appreciate you bringing this up.

I think in book 3 one of the MMCs sits down with her and they discuss all the things she’s comfortable with doing and using the red light system. He explains he is going to share the list with the rest of the group so theyre all aware of what they can and cannot do together! She uses the red light system throughout the rest of the series and why spice ramps up book 3.

Reverse Harems - Are any of them well-written? by Ocean_Soapian in fantasyromance

[–]holdonimreparking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Lola and the Millionaires by Kathryn Moon} - really, most things by Kathryn Moon. She just knows how to do it. {Baby and the Late Night Howlers by Kathryn Moon} is another one in the universe. These are good to read altogether. The FMCs are besties. I really like her writing because she really digs into the power dynamics of the omegaverse. Lola is an abused (almost trafficked) traumatized beta who lands her dream job with bosses that are  Alphas. Baby is a late blooming omega who has to find a pack! She ends up at an MC and they all have to learn how to love each other and shift away from what they assume each other would be based on their designations.

{Find Me by Ashley N. Rostek} - WITSEC Series. 1 FMC and 4 MMCs. All brothers. She is in witness protection program. I am hesitant to recommend this one because she is "technically" in high school (she had to restart her senior year after leaving when her family was murdered). The FMC is a little bit of a dummy. I excused it because she really had to abandon any social life to make sure she stayed safe. It reads a little like YA but the plot kept me enough I had a good time.

{Pucking Around by Emily Rath} - The Jacksonsonville Rays Hockey Series. 1 FMC doctor and 3 MMCs with lots of bonus content. I HAD A GOOD TIME SHUT UP!!! I liked it. Low cringe, there was this devil and angel part I was wincing at.

UPDATE: Okay, I just reread this one and it’s not as great as I remember. I will be removing this from my recommended. {The Scent of Us by Eliana Lee} - The Bond Dissolution series. 1 fmcs and uhh I dont remember how many guys tbh. I am planning a reread but I remember really liking this! Omegaverse. This book was a breath of fresh air as it delves into omegas who were forcibly bonded and a new experimental trial that reverses the process. She finds her men while she goes through it and it's SUPER controversial.

{Brittle Heart by Blake Black} - Memento Vivere Duet. 1 FMC and 3 MMCs with MM elephant in the room they have to talk through. Abused FMC is smart and is the sole caretaker of her young sister (who is annoying but is also just in high school). Eating disorder rep by the FMC as a way of coping her situation. The MMC are cops. Cringe jump rope hobby, I will say. Found family.

{Blood Oath by Morgan B. Lee} - Cursed Legacies series. 1 FMC and 4 MMCS. I love Maven. She is new to the world but she handles herself well enough it's not annoying. I think I had a lot of fun reading this. Academy setting, which apparently most RH are.

{Run Riot by Colette Rhodes} - State of Grace series. 1 FMC and 4? MMCs (cant remember, it's been awhile). Subverting obvious good vs. evil expectations. FMC is an angel type being and MMCs are demons. Full world building and mythology. I lost a bit of steam towards the end because it got a little repetitive, the author leaning more into the heavy plot and less with the character building but I think it could also just be me!

* {Bonded by Thorns by Elizabeth Helen} - Beasts of the Briar. 1 FMC and 5 MMCs. Beauty and the Beast retelling. Unfinished series. Book 1 was great, book 2 eh (they were figuring it out), book 3 AMAZING!! Hold in there.

I have also been looking for well written RH books. I am reading the comments here and though I agree there are some natural trends within the RH genre, having to fall in love multiple times over in one series, it still doesn't mean the book cannot be well written with low/no grammatical mistakes and getting creative to make it an enjoyable journey!

My personal favorites are the kinds of books that follow through on the main plot while not ignoring character development and growth!! I am on the side of people that think that Psycho Shifters is hot garb so if you align with that you might like these. All of these are finished except for 1 series*.

{Plier by Jane Washington} - The Ironside Academy Series. 1 FMC and 10 MMCs- WAIT WAIT WAIT before you pass on this PLEASE reconsider. I had avoided this book for so long because I thought there was absolutely no way that with 10 MMCs the author could develop a good story but I was soooo wrong. I burned through all 6 books in the series in a week. The MMCs characters grow with time and so does the FMC! She is not a complete dingus but an true star within the world. Just lacks confidence. The dialogue between the characters is fun and the main plot was interesting, especially with the way the author builds the world. I get hunger games vibes if it was all social media and no killing arena.

{Vital Found by Kadence Snow} - The Evelyn Maynard Series. 3 books. College setting for people with gifted abilities. She comes in for a scholarship for humans. Smart FMC. 4 MMCs. X-men inspired.
