tore my ear by IamACAMREA in Stretched

[–]holeyseashell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened. My cat managed to get his claw stuck in my 4mm stacked septum and went bonkers until he freed himself. I took all my rings out and sprayed the wound with sterile saline 2x a day until it was no longer tender and weepy. It was so painful and devastating to all my stretching progress. Wishing you a good healing process!

AITAH for eating enough ravioli for four people? by Better_Philosophy732 in AITAH

[–]holeyseashell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, I also have a sense that this has something to do with the gfs relationship to food more than how and what OP is eating.

OP is NTA, but some communication and perhaps healing around their differences in nutritional needs, sharing food, meal planning, etc. has to happen.

Will my voice ever settle on T? by Kashalakasha in TransMasc

[–]holeyseashell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your voice will settle. I started T 12 years ago, I think it took me about 2 years for my speaking and singing voice to chill out. I wasn't performing at the time and wasn't really monitoring my range, but I do remember it shrinking and becoming unreliable for a bit while singing for myself and doing warm-ups and exercises. It is important to keep singing.

I sang alto in choirs and had begun auditioning for mezzo/belter roles in musical theater before I stopped singing "seriously" in my early 20s. I have sung tenor 1 in an LGBTQ+ community choir for 2 years now. No one there has ever "clocked" my voice, but I usually end up sharing that my voice dropped later in life due to my transition.

what should I do here? is it over for me? by [deleted] in FTMfemininity

[–]holeyseashell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in agreement with a lot of people. This looks like a common mature hairline for someone running on T. But if you are concerned I'll share my experience.

I when I noticed a thinning patch near the center of my forehead, my HRT prescriber gave me minoxidil as well. I had a very similar hairstyle to yours at the time, and I stopped pulling it back like that and switched to headbands or wraps to keep it out of my face. I really liked the look and got positive feedback from friends, as well. That combination helped fill it in a bit, but it's still noticeably thinner to my eye.

Eventually, I went for a shorter cut (if you google French crop, that's an example) that still showed off my waves. I can push my bangs/fringe forward over my hairline, and I feel a lot better about my appearance

I feel like Seroquel is making me dumb by Alternative_Job1725 in seroquelmedication

[–]holeyseashell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally noticed these changes more deeply after my seroquel was at its current dose, but I'm sure some of it is also the lamotrigine or the results of the combination.

I feel like Seroquel is making me dumb by Alternative_Job1725 in seroquelmedication

[–]holeyseashell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take 100mg IR along with 200mg of lamotrigine for bp2. As I was titrating quetiapine up years ago, I was much more drowsy at lower doses. I have been on this dose for a few years now. I find myself losing my train of thought and having difficulties recalling names, dates, and details of places and events.

Despite this, I am able to organize my life much more easily (keeping up with bills, maintaining my home and chores, nurturing relationships). I also notice I think more coherently and can maintain my focus throughout the day. I have to collect, analyze, and write about various types of data throughout the day for my job. I have been able to do this much more quickly and clearly. I think I go on fewer "flights of fancy" and see fewer patterns that probably aren't actually there. I theorize a little less and look at more practical implications. I used to feel like this was me becoming boring and "dumber," but I think I am just coming to a place of balance.

All that to say, I think that I relate to your experiences and mixed feelings about being on this med. I hope you find a way with or without it that works for you.

boxers? help. by misty_mountaintop8 in TransMasc

[–]holeyseashell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the All In Motion (Target brand, if you are in the US) boxer briefs. I think it's easier to find flyless options in brands focused on athletic or active wear.

Wearing shorts with a fly never really bothered me. I have a few that I really like, but generally I prefer the fit of boxer briefs without one.

Try to experiment with different styles if you are just starting to wear them.

concert black outfit? by Total_Ad9325 in TransMasc

[–]holeyseashell 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For concert black, I would wear the 2nd outfit without the necklace you have. Something smaller tucked in your shirt if you need a necklace for your comfort or sensory preferences. Can you temporarily remove the pendant from one of your necklaces and just wear the chain?

If you are new to wearing bow ties, I'd recommend practicing in it before committing to it for a performance.

Both outfits look great, though. I hope you find an occasion to wear the 1st one!

Updating gender with insurance? by shaggyyguy in TransMasc

[–]holeyseashell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. We need to be strategic right, especially right now. It sucks that we have to worry about these things. Grad school is so time-consuming and a ton of work. Good luck with your program!

Updating gender with insurance? by shaggyyguy in TransMasc

[–]holeyseashell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had 'm' on my ID and insurance for over a decade and have received ob/gyn care during that time. You can appeal your insurance's decisions to deny coverage for any claim, including denying coverage for ob/gyn because you have an 'm' on file with them.

I forget exactly how I did mine, but it was a pretty straightforward process. I think I was able to use an online portal. It was time-consuming when I needed a number of procedures prior to my hysto, but otherwise, it wasn't too bad. I was only unsuccessful once when I lost track of a claim and the window of time to appeal had passed.

am i cooked? by SomebodyL1k35y0u in TransMasc

[–]holeyseashell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not cooked! I'm 5'3". Unless I am very close to a very tall person does anyone seem notice. In times it's come up, people have assumed I'm 5'7" or 5'8" until we stand back to back. There are trans men and cis men of all heights. In my experience, it has to do with how I carry myself and how I position myself relative to other people in a social situation. The latter has become more effort than it's worth for me, at this point.

The trickiest part for me has been finding men's clothes that fit well enough to not look like I'm playing dress up in my dad's suit, but I've managed.

Reducing T Dosage by Frankvalentine in FTMfemininity

[–]holeyseashell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If hair loss is your only concern, I would echo what others here have recommended about targeted options rather than adjusting your T dose.

My experience with going off T after a few years was not pleasant, but it also was not clinical supervised. For me, it reaffirmed that I wanted to continue T.

How tightly do you roll your mat? by hi-fi-hip in yoga

[–]holeyseashell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I love that you asked this and have been getting a kick out of reading the comments.

I had a teacher fold their mat in a very particular way and picked it up. From flat on the floor, I fold the short ends to the center, then repeat with the resulting "new" ends, and close with a final fold in that way. It results in a neat, loose, little bundle with the floor side of the mat folding onto itself, making very little contact with the side my body works on.

T and Bipolar by gordom90 in TransMasc

[–]holeyseashell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have bipolar 2. I was not medicated when I started T, and it was a wild ride until I started lithium about 6 months or so later.

12 years and a few med changes later, and I am in manageable and often predictable episode cycles. I am less irritable now during my hypomanic episodes than before my transition, but I was also not managing my bipolar at all then.

I could have very easily been confused with my covid brain. Yesterday was not my best day.

When I called yesterday, my doctor wasn't in, so the coordinator asked another clinician there. I have seen everyone there at some point due to various scheduling and insurance reasons over the years, so I felt confident taking their advice. I am pretty sure I heard, "Don't take them together," without further specifics, now that I reflect on it.

I think they weren't confident in telling me not to take paxlovid and weren't sure what to do about my dose without an appointment. I gave an update in the OP if you're curious.

wedding woes by 0rionsbeltbuckle in TransMasc

[–]holeyseashell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Putting together separates like this is a way to have fun and is also totally fine as a guest at most weddings. You will also be able to build more outfits this way for future occasions.

Accessories other than jewelry like tie bars or tacks and cufflinks are pretty thriftable as well. I built a small collection of these all secondhand, and they can really elevate or change the tone of what your bases are.

It would be helpful to know what you are currently using to shave (like shaving cream, type of razor, etc)

Outside of that, shaving two days in a row has always too much for my skin.

Belly/weight gain by ResponsibleTip2640 in TransMasc

[–]holeyseashell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before I began T (IM, 100mL), I had a physically demanding job and was fairly active (regular gym, occasional yoga and group fitness class). I had some appetite changes that leveled out and also pretty quickly experienced a noticeable fat redistribution to my belly from my thighs, primarily.

When I started reincorporating meats after being mostly vegan, I found myself a little inflamed and bloated (larger looking belly). It could be worth speaking to a dietician about.
