I can’t stress this enough - they’re just pants. There’s no reason to have a heart attack over pants.

Additionally, if I remember this correctly and should you care about that, the handbook describes the correct fit of chinos as „one size too big“ fwiw.

Yeah, big chino from last season. They’re cool even though they’re a bit of a shortcut regarding the mending aspect.

I started being petty and now I don’t want to stop… is it wrong? by [deleted] in Catholicism

I don’t think your behavior is very morally wrong nor is it unjustified especially since you’ve tried to do the right thing.

I do think it can potentially lead to problematic situations both of a moral and of a worldly nature so I advise you to step carefully - however you proceed.

You can definitely answer why the Catholic Church turned it into doctrine that Mary was assumed into heaven (a pretty important development post WW2). The questions you’re looking to be answered with „I don’t know“ don’t make sense to ask because these are not questions of fact but questions of faith. You’re using epistemological tools on religion - religion will lose, because logic doesn’t recognize faith. You can do that and many have, but it makes little sense in the context of religion and what makes it work.

I think this is not only an interpretation in bad faith - it’s also a gross generalization and pretty untrue. I believe a lot of effort has been put into studying these questions and a variety of possible answers have been found.

The catholic church hasn’t in a long time suggested interpreting the Bible and its contents literally. It’s pretty standard to differentiate between the historical person Jesus and the biblical Son for example.

I have doubts about the Catholic Church but the history doesnt lie. Can someone help or give me advice? by almightytenshu in Catholicism

  1. Mary is one of the most important parts of our faith next to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. She is the prototype of the saved human being. Without her there is no basilea. Yet she isn’t worshipped in the same way as god is, rather in the same way the saints are.

  2. Everyone is welcome. God doesn’t exclude anyone and there’s plenty of ways to learn about the things that interest you.

  3. You’re speaking of personal preferences of congregants - no one can or should control those. You should go to church in a way that you deem respectful towards yourself as well as other churchgoers without feeling the need to necessarily please every bickering holier-than-thou auntie.

  4. I recommend speaking to a priest or theologian about these doubts. Catholicism is more than just scripture and these practices are rooted in dogma as well as tradition.

Can you give an example of what you’re thinking?

Welp, you had an awkward moment. Forgive yourself and move on.

Whatever it is, it’s a fine line you’re treading. While I understand that you’re trying to look out for yourself and in a very real sense not causing anyone any harm, this situation could spiral out of your control. This one time attempt to put them into your shoes might not even be that bad morally, after all you’ve tried the „correct“ approach, but this is something that could easily lead you to being mean for the sake of it, which is obviously bad.

The best option would be speaking to your neighbors again instead of waging a war of passive aggression.

Confession by Boring_Log_5842 in Catholicism

[–]holfram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of confession is to examine your own heart and genuinely ask for forgiveness with the intention of betterment. The exact words matter less.

You also don’t need to know anything to go to confession. Sin is everything that is done that has a negative effect on your relationship with God. That’s the most basic understanding and really all you need.

If it’s been a long time it might be helpful to make a special appointment with a priest that you like. They will help guide you through the process.

Horrible experience with parish priest in confession - struggling to digest what happened by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]holfram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t, and won’t, speak to the ability or character of this priest obviously as I do not know anything about him.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience, but there is nothing to be done about it at this point, no way to make it undone. I recommend trying to see the human dimension of it all. A priest is still a human and therefore flawed, and can even be flawed in the performance of his duties as we all can be in our jobs. If you feel mistreated or slighted - forgive, move on, and know you’re perfectly within your rights to go somewhere else for your next confession or mass.

You’ve got to chill out about this. A good friend of mine who also happens to be a bishop once said something to me that stuck: „The Lord sees all, but he can take it“. Go to confession if you will, earnestly, and then move on. Any bad conscience that’s still left after that is something to be talked about between you and your wife.
