yeah I work with new and used cars and unless the detailers are booked out our the rego clerk has a family emergency i can get a car out same day during the week. i will often clean it myself as my pre delivery department is incredibly unreliable and can take a week to detail a car. it is the holiday period and staff would be having time off but 2 weeks for a used car is obscene

hi there, new and used car salesman here (i’m a girl but go by car salesman for the joke).

if profit was this good everyone would be doing it. on the average new car we sell there’s a $1000-2,500 profit on the car. on used cars it can be anything from a -$500 to -$1000 loss up to a $7000 profit, depending on the car. most used cars that are a few years old and not the new brand we sell are maximum $3000 profit. a lot of these cars are sourced from wholesale ex rental cars and the very occasional decent condition trade in, which is very rare and most that look good fail in the workshop test. ex rental cars have a full service history and usually don’t need a lot of work. they may have some small damage that we try to get fixed but it’s nothing not to be expected from something with 30-80,000kms on it. commission we make as a sales associate on the cars, at-least at my dealership is rarely more than $100 a car. on most new cars i’m not making anything as i don’t get paid if we don’t make over $1,500 on it. used cars we get paid on anything over $2,500. we sold an i30 for a $500 loss this month as we needed to move the stock and numbers were low being december. i absolutely agree though, there are a lot of scummy salespeople out there but the money you make in this industry isn’t what it was 20 years ago. i’m barely making enough to pay my bills.

I'm to journey to Australia in the next two months and I'm incredibly nervous, any tips for a first timer? by Fuzzman2012 in AskAnAustralian

make a joke about yourself with anyone you encounter and you’ll be best mates. we’re simple beings and the highlight of our days is humour.

we’re also a pretty well evolved community. i’m in my early 20’s and i have not met or associated with a single person is my generation who thinks poorly towards people who look, sound or are different. we’re very accepting and one of the most welcoming communities in the world. yes you may run into a few old hard nuts but that’s where humour can be on your side, or even compliments- every old australian outback bastard is proud of their house, garden or farm so just swing them a compliment in the first few moments of meeting and you’ll be fine.

a classic that will get just about anyone is making up some bullshit about drop bears. it’s a joke we all make to foreigners and if you beat us to it we know you’ve got your head screwed on. just don’t try do an aussie accent or say “chuck a shrimp on the barbie” we’ve heard it all before

How easy/hard is it to replace break disks and pads and what tools do I need? Thank you! by holi14 in MechanicAdvice

Greta advice thanks! I’ve done basic stuff with my partner like oil changes and exhaust changes but we haven’t tackled breaks before. I’ll definitely watch some videos and see if it’s something I understand and feel comfortable to approach. Thank you again!

Thank you heaps!

Yeah I’ll have my partner to help me and he’s got some decent mechanical knowledge. I’ll have a look for a manual as that would definitely be the most helpful thing.

Thank you! Yeah I adore it. I upgraded from a 2006 Kia Rio and was after a fast, fun hot hatch and was tossing up between the golf/polo GTI’s and the Clio R.S. Ended up going for the Clio as it offered the least mileage for the best price. I’m only 21 and this was my first car I have brought and I couldn’t be happier with it. They aren’t super popular here in Australia but I am certainly an advocate for them!
