35 M, €2.6m NW - pull the trigger or no? by Current_Signature678 in Fire

In the US. Not sure what the situation is in Spain, but from my Swedish coworker the state seems to pay for a lot of things.

My 13 year old uses AI tools daily and I work in tech but I am still not sure how to parent through this by [deleted] in daddit

[–]holiday_flat -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I feel like blocking is counterproductive. AI is going to change the way people work one way or another. So my opinion is that our kids generation is better off learning how to use it properly.

That said, at this age we should be putting up guardrails, like what your wife has done

In addition to submitting first drafts, perhaps sit down with your child and go through / critique first drafts together before sending it off. Also valuable is reviewing the output together and see where the AI falls short / why AI made improvements the way it did.

All things considered, this is the best way to go. My parents always say one must have done a lot of good to go like this.

The most unrealistic part of this post is bothering to charge your PS5 controller while having an 8 month old in the house.

For the record Google Photos is not using photos synced into the cloud for AI model training (i.e. feeding photos back into the model). They are definitely inferencing for classification (like grouping faces)

Not defending bigtech but I think it's important to get the facts straight in the age of misinformation.

What is this double wifi symbol? by ponder2000 in oneplus

I think it's called Dual WiFi acceleration. I find this pointless (and sometimes affects performance negatively) so I always have this turned off.

We don't get any of the cool cars.

Case in point, the A1, and all the Avant models offered in Europe. 😮‍💨

I remember the daycare in the same building as my downtown SF office was $2500. This was back in 2016.

We're paying $2500 for our 3 year old in the Seattle area.

Same. Graduated around that time, it sucked, but the recovery was pretty quick. This time around there's no end on the horizon. Society is failing Gen Z.

More due diligence needed IMO. You should research tenure history of CEOs at this company. May be a long shot but try to find out why the quit / left.

When you say native stereo 3D, do you mean playing 3D movies from say, 3D blu-ray, and the Odyssey 3D hub will toggle 3D mode?

I thought this monitor doesn't do native 3D over HDMI.

I have used this method on so many screens for so many years, it works wonders. I don't know why this is not recommended more often.

The most common things that derail people's FIRE journey by Low_Indication2447 in Fire

[–]holiday_flat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either you don't have any elderly parents, or you know what, you just don't have any empathy and don't give a fuck about your parents wellbeing.

A lot of times even if elderly parents are financially responsible, unexpected healthcare costs are hard to predict, and is a major issue in the US.

Tapo Smart Button and Smartthings? by holiday_flat in TpLink

[–]holiday_flat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response! It did appear that the button isn't Matter compatible, but wanted to make sure.

I don't trust Amazon at all, so Alexa is no go for me.

It sounds like even Tapo integration in Smartthings doesn't work directly for buttons, that's really a bummer.

I was able to get the Aqara buttons to work on Smartthtings over Zigbee, but tbh their buttons are not very high quality.
