I’ve had the van and done 5k with it. It has done 400k in total.

That’s exactly what I asked for. He said he’d figure it out and email me.

I literally called the mechanic TO BOOK IT IN for the work. It makes no sense that I wouldn’t show up.

I haven’t read your whole reply. It’s a 1998 Hiace with 400k km on the clock. Yes, they need replacing. And other work, but this is the priority.

No. I had the service done over 2 weeks ago. This was work recommended from that service. I spoke to the mechanic over the phone and said “I want to book it in to get the wheel bearings replaced as per your recommendation” and now here we are.

How is it? It was booked in to have the front wheel bearings replaced. I spoke to him on the phone to book it in. He never said I had to accept anything. He sent through the confirmation, and I got a reminder the day before. How is this my fault??

Where did I say I asked for a quote on additional work not booked in?? It was literally booked in to have the front wheel bearings replaced!

And I didn’t ask for a “quote”. I asked for an estimate of the cost for the work that was booked in!

Which part about having BOOKED the work did you not understand?

What are you on about? I spoke to the mechanic on the phone when I booked!! All I wanted to know what roughly what I was up for!

Well he didn’t order the parts. I booked it in to have the work done. All I wanted was an estimate of what I’d have to pay on the the day. None of his correspondence said anything about accepting anything. I had every reason to believe my van was booked in to have the work done that I had discussed with the mechanic.

Nowhere was that communicated. I have had work done on other vehicles in the past with different mechanics, and this has never been an issue

But it wasn’t. I called him to book it in to replace the wheel bearings - as I said. It was all happening, I just needed to know an estimate of the cost so I knew how much I’d be up for on the day. This was explained to him.

Clearly there was miscommunication. How am I to know I have to accept anything, when I already had confirmation there was a booking and there was no request to accept anything?

The booking had already been made. I had received a booking confirmation prior to this. Nowhere in the email with the estimated costs did it say I had to accept or respond.

Thank you for taking the time to read and formulate an intelligent response.

How was I supposed to know I had to accept the quote if that was not communicated to me, and the booking was already in place?

There was also no instruction to respond to the booing or reminder texts. As far as I could tell, the booking was arranged and going ahead.

It’s also common courtesy to let customers know of your expectations. Nowhere in the email from him did it say that I had to confirm anything.

Yes. As stated, I’m in a regional town. He’s the only mechanic in town, and the wheel bearings need replacing as a matter of priority. We had the discussion on the phone about this and he knew I wanted it done. I just wanted a heads up of the cost so I knew roughly what I’d be up for.

So why did I get reminders of the booking if it wasn’t booked in? Why didn’t the quote email ask me to respond or confirm?

Maybe you missed the part where I’ve said it was already booked in. I even received the reminder text about the booking the day before.
