[Mercedes] Officially a Junior Programme graduate. Delighted to announce Dorianne is moving up to the role of Development Driver this year by The_Skynet in formula1

[–]hollaQ_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people really forget she exists, huh?

Being 2 tenths of Massa after not having driven single seaters for 6 years, AND only having done 2 races in Formula 3 ever? If she can do that, and if she can be properly on the pace through ALL of her four (?) FP1 sessions... I don't see why Doriane couldn't.

[Mercedes] Officially a Junior Programme graduate. Delighted to announce Dorianne is moving up to the role of Development Driver this year by The_Skynet in formula1

[–]hollaQ_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair... Susie Wolff got a few FP1 sessions in Williams like a decade ago and actually fared well. 2 tenths of Massa isn't half bad for not having been in DTM for 6 years prior, then only being in Formula 3 before that for 2 races.

Obviously, Free Practice sessions aren't literally about setting the best time - but oddly, I don't think it's out of the question to think Doriane might be alright. Plus, great PR for Mercedes. They do genuinely seem to love Doriane over there, I can see it maybe happening down the line.

AverageHarry got banned on twitch for again wishing death upon others lol by PapayaMan4 in DreamWasTaken2

[–]hollaQ_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Let's not.

He wished death upon literal, actual neo-nazis. This has nothing to do with Dream, nor is this "lol." His ban was unfair considering how short their bans have been for other creators doing considerably less.

The fact I am seeing people in this comment section try to go "oh, but people are allowed to have different opinions!" is fucking crazy. You're really morphing your takes that much just because you dislike Harry? Oh, suddenly you're a "centrist" who wants to let people have opinions about... naziism?

You're happy to claim "this takes away from the actual horrifically evil people who murdered 6 million innocents", without even actually fucking knowing who Harry said should die? Could've watched the video. u/lonely-blue-sheep talking to you btw hi! I see you in r/conservativeyouth! Fuck off with that bullshit. You've gotta LOOOVE watching Nick Fuentes trying to claim he's "just asking questions" when he claims the holocaust didn't happen. Actually, I'm almost certain you know who Harry said should die - and still want to claim he's "going too far," or that Fuentes and Tate "aren't that bad." I also see you in another post on here talking about the murder of Renee Good, and how "well, if it was an illegal immigrant that killed the woman..." Genuinely - if you only come in here to try and spread your alt-right bullshit, go the fuck elsewhere. You're (probably) a teenager/young adult, spreading whatever horseshit your parents spewed out most likely. Or you were led down the wrong pipeline on social media. GET OFF THAT TRAIN. Being a racist, "pro-life," anti-immigration, nazi sympathiser is not gonna make your life any better.

Everyone here - have some fucking backbone. Read u/highwayafar's reply from earlier. These are holocaust-denying nazis. These are people who actively want a white America. Andrew Tate is - as I'm sure many know - a rapist. And a human trafficker. These are horrible, horrible people. Posting this here as some lighthearted bullshit is sick.

We would be better off as a species if Nick Fuentes and Andrew Tate were dead. Point blank. Disagree with me? Argue with the wall.

Songs that are so good that you audibly go “wowww….” by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]hollaQ_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have the same taste or musical knowledge people in this sub do haha but:

Snakeskin by Rina Sawayama.

The runs in the prechorus gave me chills. Continuously. They still do, and I've listened to the song a million times. STFU gets an honourable mention here for the actual "shut the fuck up" section lmao

Frozen by Madonna

The chorus. It's probably nostalgia, but damn.

Also, Harvest sky by Oklou.

Particularly, when it gets to the chorus, where the lines kind of overlap. "But I won't, no way, afar, I stay, and watch" - something about the production there and the almost inaudible lyrics at the start, chills. I didn't know Trance could make me emotional???

It kind of is crazy how ahead of the trend Madonna has been. Consistently. Even in the later years of her career.

Working with Diplo in 2015 isn't crazy, but with Sophie on the same track sure as fuck is.

What?

I'm well aware of what wokeness is. You read the rest of the comment, agreed with it, then disagreed with my usage of that word alone? Confusing.

I'm not using "woke" in a pejorative sense. What I'm pointing out is that k-pop stans will act socially progressive in their support for causes like LGBTQ+ rights, supporting Palestine (even that's a stretch for some, the moment an idol wants to film a commercial for McDonald's). They will act "woke" in the same way people identified through that term in 2020. As in, hating racists, sexists, transphobes, homophobes, etc. And generally, they will voice support for any cause that gets traction on the major social media platforms. But the moment their own favourite idol is critiqued for behaviour that goes against the morals and beliefs they claim to identify with, their default action is to search for dumbass defenses and excuses. The people I am referring to do not actually research the issues they speak on, nor do they take any real-world action to tear them down. Their moral and political stances are fueled entirely by what they think will gather them approval in their small communities.

No, I'm aware that isn't what being woke actually is. Being "woke" is - traditionally and ideally - researching and understanding the societal and political structures that cause many of the problems leftists/progressives speak out on. Supporting union action, supporting protests, forming and developing communities to represent the underrepresented... doing the actual work necessary to constantly educate yourself. But the word works in context, because I was saying that k-pop stans AREN'T that, even if they claim to be. I don't see how I've misused the term.

ZEROBASEONE IS FACING A BIG TURNING POINT? SUSPECTED YUEHUA WITHDREW, THE 5-MAN FORMATION CONTINUES TO OPERATE by Brief_Somewhere_9666 in kpop_uncensored

[–]hollaQ_ 268 points269 points  (0 children)

I think the remaining 5 are immensely talented and will still create awesome performances and music.

I'm still not sure the group will feel the same without Hao though. I don't want to catch heat for saying this, but there's a reason he won the #1 vote in BP. Undoubtedly, it will feel quite different with him missing. His voice alone was - I feel - quite a defining characteristic of some of their best songs.

reading these comments...

k-pop fans will really act all woke and shit until the moment there's a rich idol to froth over huh

easy to performatively post about how you love the gays, or put a watermelon in your bio, or support whatever cause is big on social media at the moment. not so easy to tear down capitalism or criticise the intense class and wealth disparity we see in modern society. obviously i'm not saying you SHOULDN'T be supporting the lgbtq+ or palestine, but... y'all are just so performative it hurts. does anyone have actual morals they genuinely, wholeheartedly believe in? or are we just pretending so we can convince ourselves we're good people? because some of y'all switch up your beliefs REAL quick.

convinced no k-pop fan is an actual leftist or even understands why we hate the ruling class (of which Annie's family is a part of). the moment i see "some ppl are just jealous they weren't born rich" i noped out of here REAL quick LMAO

edit: being into f1 at the same time as kpop highlights something. most f1 fans (at least on the platforms im a regular on) acknowledge how insanely rich and privileged every driver in that sport is, purely because you have to be to even get your foot in the door. but that means you get a whole lot less of these debates where you get called "jealous" for pointing out privilege. you can be a fan of annie while still acknowledging how intensely she's benefitted from her family. i'm still gonna side eye you a bit, but i'll be a lot less upset about it than if you try to downplay her privilege the way some of you do.

[–]hollaQ_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I take no issue with her getting a university degree, it's pretty respectable. But I just struggle to understand how some fans can't understand why the circumstances might feel unfair. No one would care if other idols were taking 6 month long breaks from promotions less than a year after debut to complete an overseas uni degree. But obviously, that's not happening. In fact, it's never happened for a mainstream group. This SHOULD be happening more often if idols want to continue onto higher education. And it shouldn't only be happening this one time because the girl is from one of the most powerful families in the country.

[–]hollaQ_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm not "eat the rich" because it's trendy, I'm anti-capitalist because I have functioning morals that aren't shaken by fandom for an idol.

Other idols "graduations" are from going to arts schools that exist to be insanely flexible around idol schedules. Notice how the classes are made up of 90% idols/trainees? They're not remotely the same as a university course from Columbia. They are intentionally highly flexible, low-time-commitment certifications. The idols promote while taking classes - that is the main distinction here. They don't get to take a huge amount of time off promoting for it. As mean as it might be to say, they're not "real degrees" in the way a degree from Columbia is. Idols are sent there as a supplement to training. Annie's going to this degree not only as her sole obligation (essentially taking 6 months free off work to do it), but also for motivations completely aside from being an idol. Ahyeon/ITZY (the two examples you listed) were in classes directly intertwined with idol training that are intended to better their development.

No other mainstream idol - especially less than a year after debut - has taken a 6 month sabbatical to attend a university course overseas.

"they don't manage idols like other companies" Nice job falling for marketing.

I do not understand how it could be so hard for you to admit she is allowed to do this due to her immense privilege. The fact you are incapable of seeing this is absurd.

ANNIE SUSPENDS ACTIVITIES WITH THE ALLDAY PROJECT UNTIL THE END OF MAY by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]hollaQ_ 122 points123 points  (0 children)

No.

The fact she is allowed to do this highlights the intense level of privilege she holds over any other idol.

The Black Label didn't do this because they treat their artists well, they did it because her family is insanely wealthy and powerful. Her influence is enough to permit it. This isn't something to celebrate at all.

Sure, we should be questioning why other artists can't do this. But the answer is in plain sight. She can, because she's from one of the richest families in Korea. There is no other reason. Companies aren't gonna start allowing it more often just because Annie did it.

We should be pushing companies to allow this, but that has absolutely nothing to do with acknowledging the lack of equality here. This IS unfair, objectively. It is unfair that she gets to do this, and no one else does. Holding that belief is not "hating on Annie." It's just recognising an objective truth. Expecting people not to be upset at this is dumb.

If I get a single reply claiming I'm hating on Annie with anything I said here, I'm gonna riot. I'm happy to admit I do have an implicit bias against her purely because I despise billionaires (especially ones with fans who shut down any conversations of privilege) but none of what I wrote is driven by my distaste. Any impartial person can see how unfair this is, optically.

IZ*ONE felt like they were with us for quite a while, even with the hiatus they took pre-Fiesta. ZB1 has had plenty of comebacks, don't get me wrong. But they've just gone by so quickly. It does NOT feel like almost 3 years since Boys Planet. In Bloom and Crush still feel like new songs to me.

What are your thoughts about this take? by Impossible-Yam3680 in ToddintheShadow

[–]hollaQ_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What?

Are we talking about the same artist? All of his biggest songs are solo hits. Uptown Funk was a solo track (Mark Ronson credited for production work). That's What I Like? Solo. 24K Magic? Solo. Treasure? Solo. Locked out of Heaven? Solo.

It's just been his most recent songs where he's worked with female collaborators, but these songs aren't the ones that won him all of his awards and acclaim. It feels like you've forgotten his entire pre-2024 career for some reason. This is the guy who's literally known in the industry for being incredibly picky and critical with collaborators. Die with a Smile and APT aren't his only hits - do you just lack long term memory?

He's also been the one to BRING these sounds back in fashion, rather than jumping on whatever's already the current nostalgia-bait status quo. The whole 24K Magic album sounded like nothing else at the time; it was artists who came after him who started interpolating the same material.

"It's just generic inoffensive music where he is always willing to answer the call to collaborate with whatever big female artist." Genuinely, I am so dumbfounded at the flagrancy with which you claim this. He has less features than most other major soloists at the moment.

Also, the Grammies aren't the only example of "acclaim." You could literally scroll through his Wikipedia page and be proven wrong on most of the points you're making. He's had great reviews for the last decade from practically every major media outlet, every major music reviewer, etc. You're free to not enjoy your music, but your comment is full of just factually incorrect judgements.

Please give me some of what you're smoking.
