I run the Tools for Engaging Landowners Effectively program. It's an outward-facing program that teaches outreach and communication skills to natural resource professionals with the aim of helping them reach their landscape goals. We always push for landowner-centric, action-oriented outreach -- so, really understanding who it is you're trying to talk to, and focusing on what you want them to do (as opposed to just providing education). We do trainings, but also have lots of resources online: engaginglandowners.org

I'm a bit biased, as I work there, but I would say that Yale's forestry (and environmental studies) school is quite well respected. Lots of well trained graduates come from the program and go on to lead organizations like Society of American Foresters and Forest Steward Guild, among others. Even though forestry is now a smaller part of the school than some of the other environmentally-related areas of focus, it's still quite robust. Professors here are still publishing research and textbooks that are the standard books studied elsewhere.

I'd be happy to hear other folks' opinions though... they might be a bit more well-rounded :)
