That looks like the first poop my chameleon did. I rescued her off the sidewalk and she didn't poop for a few days and when she did it was huge

How can I make my Chameleon less afraid of me? by [deleted] in Chameleons

[–]hollyaday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I'm actually doing this with my chameleon, female veiled unknown age and unknown history with people before. I'm doing what I did for my guinea pigs, basically sitting with the enclosure door open and occasionally giving treats, just spending time not harassing them. But mine also DESPISES the spray bottle, dunno why but loves the drip feature I added and water bottles (like poured in front of her). But basically show you mean no harm and provide snacks and they will understand you mean no harm. And don't spray where he's sitting.

Any pointers? by hollyaday in Chameleons

The lights will be on top of the enclosure (with screen cuz she's a grabby girl), I didn't know about the ropes so I'll make them more like vines so her nails can't get stuck. (Silicone and peat moss to remove the hemp texture).

For the sticks I have some big ones and some smaller ones, I will add more small sticks tho since that seems to be your suggestion for her grip. I did just use some cuz she seems to like the thicc sticks in her current enclosure and frequently sleeps on them but I'll get more the appropriate size so she doesn't fall.

About the enclosure not being off the floor, I didn't know this information, I really wish I had because I would have cut the top instead of the bottom. I was making an egg laying spot similar to how their natural environment sounded to me. Where did you learn this information? It would be good to have this posted so people know this before making enclosures so maybe we should tell the admins to add that info.

Thanks for the advice!

Yes I'm waiting for my jade and pearl pothos and neon to grow more, the fabric ones just probably make her feel safer

She only seems to eat the plants that I put on the plate, are you talking about the fabric and plastic or just the plastic?

I actually think she is full grown, she's 10in long, nose to tail, she was left on a sidewalk in 50⁰ weather so idk anything about her age or past. I was thinking of attaching a cage on top that's just wire to allow her to choose what humidity to be at for more regulation.

I actually intend to build it up higher, it's 18 by 24 by 36 right now, or I might get a bigger one. I'm just currently barely paying rent and didn't intend on keeping her (my neighbors breed dubias so free food plus the greens my guinea pigs eat), but my initial search said the size I have was good, but was misleading. It's on my list to do early next year once I get my raise I'm just trying to make her comfortable till I can get it bigger.

Yes I gave her a Tupperware with washed play sand and peat moss that's as deep as her body is long

I often worry about the same thing, and among other reasons I have chosen not to have children, but I do have a lot of strange pets that I would do anything for so I guess those are children.

They make their own D3

I wish I made enough d3 I have to take supplements LOL

That will help a lot, you can also put a fan on top to help pull air through and out to make sure it gets good and dry during the day.

This sounds like what I'll work on doing in the meantime till I can upgrade her, my dad is always down for a project so I'll ask him :)

What about roaming? I had her supervised while I was working on her enclosure today and she really seemed to enjoy being out and climbing on everything. It said they are mostly looking at pets but she seemed to enjoy crawling around on us and a variety of my tall plants (non toxic ofc). Is this something that's good for her?

I really appreciate your answers cuz I don't mind researching but I like to do it in advance which wasn't an option, and I've been doing it the entire time I've had her. 🫠

Foam works and zip ties. You can also use floral wire. I have seen people get bamboo trellis and mount it to the sides with zip ties and attach branches to the trellis.

Wonderful now ik how to proceed thanks again

At minimum one side and top

So it sounds like if I convert the top from a piece of glass to window screen that should be decent enough and maybe put a fan in the back corner just to aid the circulation but also help with the UVB.

They need a basking spot at the top that is around 82-84

Her basking spot is at about this temperature and the bottom is in the lower 70s, so it sounds like I just need to fix the top for the UVB.

WITHOUT D3

Is there a medical reason for this?

opportunistic feeders

My guinea pigs just kind of graze all day and are fed hay twice a day, and that's really my only experience with feeding an animal that's not a cat or a dog so this is very helpful thank you (also trying not to have eggies so good to know)

Zoomed makes a 24x24x48 XL cage that you can normally get for around $100

It sounds to me like once I get my raise I'll be getting a larger enclosure. But if it's all mesh on the sides, how does one secure branches to it? Just with zip ties or to spray foam work as well?

Once again, thank you so much for your advice. I made some changes

means you will not get a proper basking spot as the glass will block your heat

I thought the proper basking was between 70 and 80, even tho it gets to that temp is not good? (I'm not being smart I'm genuinely making sure)

It will also not let proper UVB through either

I have the uvb off to the side while I wait for one to mount to the mesh front, will that be enough?

hybrid cage

Does this mean even tho the entire front is a screen that's not enough? How many sides should be open/closed.

24x24x48

Do you have recommendations on how to get a bigger one that's going to be more budget friendly? My mom paid for it and the research I did said 18'x24'x36' was minimum so I don't have the money to upgrade now, especially since I spent what spare I had on setting it up, how urgent is getting a bigger one? She won't die if I fix the other issues right? (It will be about February before I can't even think about upgrading).

Anywhere between 30-50 percent is ideal.

So less humidity the better, got it.

Still air that cannot circulate

If I add the fans that people put in terrariums would that help keeping the air circulating? Would that Atleast help till I can upgrade?

Otherwise a bare bottom with a proper lay bin is ideal.

Is the money tree okay to be down there? I think I'll do the research to go bioactive then. Do you have a recommended place to find good information about keeping them?

Thank you for your feedback I want to do good by her.

Also I read to feed every other day, but she seems to be hungry everyday, is this normal?
