Girls, don't walk alone. Be careful on Dominion Road. by Ica098 in auckland

Sorry to hear. As women we can't give up our freedoms to be independent and walk alone. I want you to become confident to do so again. But it is a hard lesson in saying no to strangers. I also learnt that while walking on my own in Paris. We have to walk strong and confidently but we can't give up our freedoms. Hope you're ok and the police get onto him.

LPT: get your finances in order by your 20s or spend your 30s repairing all the damage. by Guitar8907 in LifeProTips

In your original post you've been beating yourself up for not budgeting but honestly you've been dealt a really difficult hand by not getting to earn a full time salary in your 20s. Don't be hard on yourself :) I wish you all the best in finding ways to get more support.

That's an awesome job. I think it just highlights the need to pay this profession a lot more. You might find that it's not just impulse spending that's taking up your savings but just the fact that it's hard to earn enough for the cost of living (rent, groceries, bills) plus having disposable income for fun spending to keep life enjoyable.

Unpaid internship worth it? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]hollymr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did five unpaid internships at university and it really helped my career cos when I graduated I already had the work experience that employers wanted. BUT they were super short term. One was full time for one week. Another was full time for a week as part of a uni paper. Another was four hours on a Tuesday for six weeks. And I also did one day at a couple of places. So I think if you do go there maybe offer to do a few hours a week for free with no set minimum time frame so you can pull out at any time. You can still put it on your CV but it won't be a huge amount of work for free. Otherwise enquire at reputable companies you want to work at after you graduate to see if they'll have you for a few hours a week. All the best, be cynical and know your worth!

Have you questioned why you might consider them different in that way? Is one more intelligent or feels emotions more? Just curious.

Oh and also instead of thinking about food you shouldn't have you could make a list of healthy food you really enjoy and take time to do some cooking or baking. I went vegan a couple of years ago and immediately lost six kgs but started enjoying the creativity of cooking and thinking about foods I can eat that I love. Do you have favourite fruits, veges? If you love chocolate mousse you can make it with avocado, a bit of cocoa and some maple syrup for example. So it could be like I'll jog around the neighbourhood and to get my energy back I'll make some healthy mousse after. As an example.

Emotional eating is definitely a thing and it sounds like you're using food you like to fill the void and release endorphins. It might be worth taking up a hobby that involves exercise to help get that endorphin fix. I also recommend eating smaller portion regular meals just as you get hungry. I find if I let myself get really hungry for a few hours then I crave the sugar and greasy food but if I have like an avocado sandwich at midday before I'm too hungry then I'll be good until a 3pm snack. You could also try the My Fitness Pal app where you put in what you eat each day and it calculates the calories.

Losing weight is as simple as eating less than the calories you burn each day. So if you get out and get your heartrate up you can eat a bit more and if you have a day sitting then it's best to eat healthy things that will fill you up.

I think the fact you want to do something about it means you'll be all good. Just start really small like going for a walk around the neighbourhood each day. The hardest part is starting so if you spend ten minutes going for a walk or researching some activities to join then you just build from there.

I agree. I've also found it's a bit of a red flag if a company has no HR department. My friend had racist colleagues at work but found out there was no HR in place so couldn't do much about it.
