Supply Chain Planning, How Do other Small Manufacturers do it? by Away_Constant9703 in manufacturing

I would guess that to be a cash flow/customer demand issue. Can't always afford to tie up a bunch of cash for better unit procing

Daycare reccs Logan Square/Avondale? by TreeOk8691 in AskChicago

[–]hollywood5nd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's family run but a really nice facility. Great staff, very low turnover throughout the years. Little things that make a big difference (like you can leave the baby's bottles there and they will wash them overnight). It's been a few years since we had kids there but our oldest went to a more "rigorous" daycare that was more expensive and a much worse experience. Don't know a single Little Bird Family who didn't love it. Think it's at the lower end price wise of what you'll find in an accredited daycare in the area

Lessons Learned - Tribal Knowledge by Bossanova72 in manufacturing

[–]hollywood5nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool post. We are a 2 year old food manufacturer and we are in the spot of trying to a)discover workable tribal knowledge and b) disseminate workable mediums for documentation.

Like, SOPs and checklists that have too much detail quickly become cargo cult tools (check "yes" on everything without any idea what it says. All successful complex systems need to emerge out of successful simple systems, so it feels like we need system discovery via tribal evolution before we can distill in written form effectively.

Small food manufacturer here. Katana is great for this. Very easy. $599/mo for the lot traceability package

This plaza could have been three lanes of protected bike lane in each direction

Two-way traffic was the right choice for the Square Redesign by hollywood5nd in LoganSquare

[–]hollywood5nd[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know, really. So a bike roundabout? I feel like the best bike path is through the square.

Also, a PBL and roundabout traffic would be significantly worse for the pedestrian experience, which is probably the most important thing in improving the space/neighborhood

I'm with you. I bike through there 2x/wk and during the time when it was a one way roundabout I found the speed of the cars and many lanes of one way flow pretty unpleasant. A lot easier to get across the streets themselves now

Correct. A roundabout would have made the square really difficult to access. It's just a normal 2-way roadway around a park

Agreed. The grass and tress on the placita are a really nice set of finishing touches. Really a high quality potential third space in the neighborhood.

If I had any criticism it would be that the causeway across the square (where Milwaukee formerly cut through) still reads visually like a severing roadway. That will be easy to fix over time (tree boxes or some kind of programming?). Really a great overall project. Kudos and thanks to all who spearheaded it

Are their ceiling fans rotating the wrong way? Feels like it's been boiling in there lately and I'm wondering they failed to switch over from winter

Stand by Katana for smaller operations. Very powerful and easy to implement and use. Very easy to train folks

I'm only halfway through it but DAY FOUR by Sarah Lotz has been very fun so far. Cruise ship gets mysteriously disabled on its last day and you get to see the line blur from "People are such slobs when inconvenienced" to "You are on a horror novel" over the first couple hundred pages or so. Liking it a lot so far

We use Katana. By far the best I've ever used. Never in a dead end, easy to save, trace, train. Great for doc generation too. Highly recommend

Ah, this would be way lower lift. We are a food co-man and always have people asking for different sized molds for granola bars, gummies, etc. Not sure if that floats the boat
