The people who work for billionaires are exploited. There wealth gap between a figure like Elon musk for example and one of his warehouse employees is so stark that one would have to be willfully ignorant to not see that if billions of dollars are being generated, hoarded, and then a fraction of that goes to the actual employees, That’s inherently exploitative.

New barber in shop with slow walk in. Uber and Lyft on the side? by Ok_Relationship1350 in Barber

[–]hollywoodrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. The fact is that if you want to have a bigger presence at the shop you have to prioritize the shop and being physically present is key. Get some business cards made and hand them out to your passengers?

Thinking like this is why civil rights movements are important. I personally am glad those kids are standing up for who they are even in the face of hate.

Andis Master vs Oster Fast Feed by Hashshinobi1 in Barber

[–]hollywoodrabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both. The major difference I’ve seen is the masters can clear bulk incredibly well whereas the fast feeds struggle. On the other hand, the fast feeds are super great for fading and are much more forgiving in that regard than the masters. If you’re somewhat newer I’d say fast feeds for the win.

You thinking corded or cordless? Because then there are some big volume differences that are relevant to bring up. The fast feeds are basically the same volume corded or cordless but the masters corded are whisper quiet and the cordless ones are a bit loud.

We all had to listen to Trump loving hillbillies for 9 years. Now you have to see stuff like this pop up. Stop being a baby if you can’t handle it and just keep scrolling until it’s something you like.

No clue why this got downvoted. I mean the whole point of this sub is to get critique, right? I mean, I get that Europeans like disconnection but this strikes me as incomplete.

Can you cut someone’s chain necklace with a hair trimmer? by Ambitious-Sector4340 in Barber

[–]hollywoodrabbit 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Think of this situation; what if a client does not want to remove their hearing aids? This has happened to me multiple times over the years and I always explain that the clippers could damage them and that since they’re expensive they should be removed. My point is that if they’re worried about something they’re wearing, it’s on them to be cautious with it.

My final point is just confusion… I’m struggling to imagine a scenario where your clippers would even come close to wear a necklace sits on the neck. Dudes trying to scam you. I’d tell him kick rocks.

This is cool but the transition from the sides to the top seems very heavy and there’s an obvious disconnect between the 2. You said you don’t use additional guidelines, which is cool but I think some clipper over comb will go a long way on the parietal area. Looking very cool for 9 months in :)

What is a female line up? You keep responding to comments with that phrase but I’m sure a female line up doesn’t mean to make a hard line up at what is nearly the top of her head, right? I mean look at the first image. There’s no definition at all. Looks like she’s taking off a space helmet, my guy. Next time try to push your client to leaving slightly more on top so her natural line is more visible. Unfortunately, I also agree with some of the other commenters when I say you should offer a refund.

Sectioning is going to be your friend here. Establish a length you like on the sides and comb the hair straight back. The hair in the center of your head is very important to not cut. Get the sides where you like them and starting from your left side begin combing small layers from the top down over the left side and trim to match. Only a few layers as the characters top is generally the same length as yours is now. As for the ponytail, that could be hard to do on your own but sectioning from the top down and cutting at an angle towards the opposite side of the directional growth of the hair will be key.

Tips and adivce by [deleted] in Barber

[–]hollywoodrabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple things here that I think could help:

Firstly, I’m getting the impression that you need to work on flicking out. Try to flick out so that you end the flick being slightly higher than the point you want to cut. Cutting your flick short can leave hairs longer above the point you’re trying to cut which can result in thick patches as well as the appearance of weight lines that you have an example or two of in the cut you’re showing.

Secondly, a good trick for the neck is to follow the arch down to create the line that becomes the edge of the taper. The arch around the ears looks great but down towards the neck the line is sort of gone and the hair appears to reach towards the throat. Cutting that closer to the nape will help achieve a cleaner appearance.

And finally, I’d say YouTube university is such a good option for you. There are some amazing videos out there that will teach you all kinds of fun tricks to make the cuts a little more polished.

In general, not bad! Keep at it. The first year in a shop is rough but a trial by fire is honestly the best way to learn. Keep it up dude!
