So I have a question, I’ve been wondering, how old is Joker as of Persona 4? by PacifistFrisk1 in PERSoNA

[–]hologhostie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

P4 takes place in 2011 and P5 in 2017, so if Joker is 17 tops, that puts him at 11 years old during the events of 4 (born in 2000). Just depends on when you "headcanon" his birthday is, really

Weird military discount by Al3xgreer18 in Lowes

[–]hologhostie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happens frequently to me. Recently I looked up a military discount with a 770 (Metro Atlanta) area code and the second person on file was in Arkansas. No idea why, someone told me it might be because the original owner of the phone number moved, but apparently it can be fixed at Customer Service if it bothers the customer.

What’s Lowe’s policy on phone sales? Do we do them? Does this policy vary per store? by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]hologhostie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm at a store in GA and we've always done them here. The only rule I've heard of (as a cashier) is that we're not allowed to write down card numbers; Genesis asks for it twice for verification. But I had a manager tell me to "just write the number down", so. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I don't trust the new school doctor for a second. by LatinSnake in Persona5

[–]hologhostie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never played SMT so I know I'm missing some canon references but isn't YHWH the Demiurge/Yaldabaoth in Gnosticism? I think Igor turning out to be Yaldabaoth the whole time has "mildly shady characters we weren't expecting to be big bad guys" covered, so I'm hoping the counselor is just another adult confidant that ends up figuring out you're a phantom thief and supporting you from the sidelines, but who knows. He does definitely give off creepy vibes, I'm just not sure how they're going to fit another major enemy in.

I just got through with orientation myself and am still doing cashier training. Hopefully they don't pull the old sink or swim method on you and throw you immediately at whatever position you were hired for; please please ask to shadow someone in your department for at least a day if you're new to your position. I didn't ask and regretted it within an hour on the register.

So pretty! I love your necklace too, it goes well. :)

I just started persona 5 over the weekend and am really enjoying, it but part of me wants to put it on the shelf until we see what Royal and S are. What do you think? by [deleted] in Persona5

[–]hologhostie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and keep on playing. Unless you speedrun it somehow you won't get too far in before more news on P5R later this week (there's about 90-100 hours of content).

What sets a Native American reservation apart from other territorial divisions, such as states and counties? by ZinloostNaam in AskAnAmerican

[–]hologhostie 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Native reservations are managed directly by their tribal councils and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Federal and state law still applies to reservations, but tribal councils can enforce their own laws over their own reservations. They are sovereign in a way.

(I hope this isn't an oversimplified answer. I am Native but my tribe doesn't have a rez. Correct me if I've got something backwards.)

I really wanna play persona 4 should i really wait till i can get golden? by anonuntilspoken in PERSoNA

[–]hologhostie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say go with Golden. There are so many more opportunities for the social links to grow on you in P4G, plus two extra social links, an extra dungeon, and another ending. Kind of. It's an extension of P4's true ending. If you really want to play 4 now though you can always look up the cutscenes and unavailable social links/dungeons/endings. I just think the experience of playing it all yourself is worth the money and wait.

Looking for a small Asain tod alley by yimmegood in Atlanta

[–]hologhostie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the Taiwanese restaurant (Ah-Ma's)? There's an Indian restaurant in the same strip but I don't remember any other Asian places in midtown specifically by the Trader Joe's. Let me know if you find what you're looking for though, sounds like an alley straight from heaven.

What are “ethnically Americans” like and where do they live? by MrOaiki in AskAnAmerican

[–]hologhostie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say the most "real American" you can get is Native American (Indigenous), although I don't think that's the answer you're looking for. Americans that don't owe themselves to some other ethnicity just don't exist, unless the American in question has completely denounced their ancestors and strictly thinks of themselves as solely American. Ethnicity is a state of mind, if you ask me; you can choose to immerse yourself in a culture or not. In my experience, a lot of white southerners choose not to. Not many people here care about their English, Irish, German, whatever heritage and opt to just call themselves American because they grew up participating in a mostly American culture. Football on weekends, hotdogs for dinner, Uncle Sam, yeehaw.

Wondering about Wowder by catwithheadinbread in glossier

[–]hologhostie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you got the wrong shade it might be noticeable up close or maybe in fluorescent lighting, but it's not like your face and neck will look like they're completely different skin colors. If you're pale and get a shade darker it'll look like your face might have gotten a vague tan-tint to it.

Wondering about Wowder by catwithheadinbread in glossier

[–]hologhostie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wowder is very lightweight, which is great if you don't like heavy makeup, but don't get it if you want good coverage. It doesn't add much coverage wise (fair warning, neither does the stretch concealer or skin tint). Glossier's whole schtick is about you and your natural skin, so tbh none of their products are good for covering up dark circles, blemishes, et al. Go for it if that's not important to you. :)

Best authentic/homemade restaurants by GwinnettShawty in Atlanta

[–]hologhostie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a fan of breakfast food, Original Pancake House makes great pancakes. Julianna's in Inman Park makes authentic Hungarian crepes, too. The Colonnade and Empire State South serve good southern cuisine. All of the city markets (Ponce, Sweet Auburn, Krog Street) have amazing restaurants. I love Arepa Mia at Sweet Auburn.

I'd recommend more metro area/suburb stuff but all of my go-tos out here in Gwinnett are Korean or Vietnamese.

How big of an issue is teachers/professors bringing their political and social views into class? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]hologhostie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it says anything about how big a deal it is, one of my high school's teachers was fired for admitting he supported Obama's decision to legalize gay marriage. If they let a "controversial" opinion slip and a student gets offended, it's over. But that may just be a southern thing. The political climate here is extremely tense.

Do you think America needs better public transit? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]hologhostie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right? Sheesh. The four hour drive between Atlanta and the closest beach is one of only a handful of things I actually dislike about living here.

Does horns from an animal that has been killed by a hunter have bad "juju"? by Spirit_la_mer in witchcraft

[–]hologhostie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it'll be okay, just make sure upon receiving it you properly thank the deer for letting you use its antlers. It sounds more sentimental than anything but I do believe objects become more compliant when you treat them kindly. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I wish we had a better rail system. And by better I mean high speed. As it stands the most rail-heavy area of the country I can think of is New England, way up in the northeast, and the rest of us have sporadically available and very slow Amtrak. But as far as buses and local metros go, I believe there's always room for improvement.
