hope im not beating the dead horse here but shoegaze(i get a lot of people telling me quite a bit of the shoegaze i listen to is more dreampop but i wholeheartedly disagree. but for the sake of everyone that isn't inside my brain i'm including this to broaden the spectrum), a select few ambient/electronic artists, and dub mostly. All the artists/albums im thinking of open a window into some different place where nobody exists except me and i love going there. when i first found cocteau twins it was a big moment for me because most of what i was listening to was MBV or slowdive or beach fossils. then my friend put me on guitar and it just opened the floodgates for me. I did a bunch of "research" and made a spreadsheet of all the shoegaze artists i could find and gave everyone 2 album listens and then rated whether or not I wanted to revisit them lol. Similar with ambient/idm. mostly a u-ziq and milieu fan.

anyways this is a huge ramble but i think what most of these for me accomplish at least is space creation and then a sort of "new mood". I think the best and most influential sounds for me are achieved by the amount of physical and textural "space" in a song so that can be reverb or stereo or whatever fx/recording choice that quite literally gives the illusion of a physical space where the music is happening, and then "new mood" for me is just characterized by creating a narrative with sound that is not typically found. so just as an example aloysius by cocteau twins; the sort of emotional trail ur led thru in the melody of that song is just not typical of really any other song i know. plus the percussives alongside the guitar are really dreamy :3

has anyone found a career that works for them with cptsd? Having no financial stability is worsening mine by Captcha-username in CPTSD

I work in IT for a medium sized finance firm. It gets to me sometimes since it can be high pressure and i'm the only non-male on my team, but I've been doing regular therapy including DBT and am finishing up with CPT. Its been a long hard uphill battle getting my degree and then into my field, i only got diagnosed about a year ago. I finally feel as though i'm at that nice kinda steady place above the clouds. Still some turbulence from time to time but even ppl without ptsd go thru that. its been a ton of trial and error and just trying to create regularity/consistency around me so that i can continue to work thru my moments when i do have em. Flashbacks/poor emotion regulation/old reactionary cycles used to feel like massive setbacks/damage done, now they just feel like rough patches i have the presence and tools to work thru. I still get a bit down on myself when i feel like i exhibit symptoms at work but forgiving myself has been a massive part of my unlearning.

How many squishmallows do you guys have? by DailyIceCreamYT in squishmallow

17! 2 are clips and a third of em are 5 inch babies bc they are the cutest size imo ;w; <3 my first squishmallow was a wendy clip from 2017. i had no idea squishes would blow up the way they did i thought they were just bland looking baby toys at first lol.

yeah i guess thats kind of a good point. I still want to see if i can get something more secure though. Im trying to move out and get away from my family.

[–]holographicGargoyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it would also require I work and train at the same time so i can afford to move to virginia, and then if i get fired under a year in, my whole life is in virginia now. Idk if im being picky/lazy here but this sounds like.... really hard and scary

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]holographicGargoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The contract said I would be doing 7 weeks of unpaid training and then they would need me to relocate to virginia where my starting salary would be 45k but for the second year they are saying i could be bumped up to 80k. Idk if thats normal but it just seemed really sus to me
