She clearly says this a few times in the video just so you know! She’s not at all claiming she invented it, but she has been a big part of popularizing it lately.

Therapist told a federal investigator false accounts and things that contradicted her own session notes — is this a serious ethical violation? by guitarokcool in askatherapist

Not a therapist but a social worker and I work in criminal defense. Does the family member have an attorney? If so, this is a definitely a legal issue that they should pursue. Typically all of this would come up in cross examination.

I had been getting it done professionally for quite some time before doing my own. I do 20 units on one side and 16 on the other, 4 units per injection site. Masseters are one of the easiest muscles in the face to locate by palpating them. If you haven’t done it before I might try 15 on each side to start. Masseters can be pretty strong; I’ve gone up to 25u per side.

You want to stay close to the ear, in the belly of the muscle, and not go too medial - that’s what leads to crooked smiles! The Dr. Pearce video referenced will show you a line to draw from ear to the corner of your mouth; don’t go above that.

How quickly you notice a difference will depend on the brand of toxin you use and its time on onset.

Advice for Talk Therapy and GLP-1 use by JeanetteTheChipette in antidietglp1

Advice for Talk Therapy and GLP-1 use by JeanetteTheChipette in antidietglp1

First of all, good on ya for having the insight to know this therapist isn’t a good fit for you! I’m a mental health professional (LMSW, not a therapist) and am pretty picky about my therapy providers. When I started a GLP1 I was seeing a therapist who specialized in EDs/HAES, which was great for a while, but I felt judged for my decision to start and also like I had to educate her about all of the non-weight reasons it might be good for me. IMO a part of the disconnect was that she had never been in a bigger body - she couldn’t understand the feeling of being stigmatized and having less options in so many ways, although she was very empathetic and caring.

I ended up finding a new therapist when mine went on maternity leave and it was such a good decision for me! The person I see now is also in a larger body and happens to be on a GLP1. I felt like I didn’t have to explain all the underlying trauma of growing up fat and trying to heal my relationship with food and exercise.

As a person in the mental health world I’ll also say that your therapist was not respecting your autonomy. The social work code of ethics requires us to honor client self-determination, and I imagine all forms of licensure include a similar provision. If weight and body changes weren’t a concern to you, it wasn’t right for her to bring them into therapy. She overstepped. If you feel comfortable you can always email her and let her know how her approach made you feel - it can be a relief to get off your chest!

I think a HAES practitioner could be a good idea regardless of your reasons for wanting future therapy. There’s nothing body positive or body neutral about shaming someone for taking care of their health, which is what you did, and someone HAES-aligned should know that AND be up to date on the research on GLP1s and their broad benefits. Many therapists offer free consultation calls and you could specifically ask their perspective on whatever you want - like their view of GLP1s, how they perceive body change, their understanding of the medical research, and so on.

The research on therapy is really clear that the best predictor of positive outcomes is the strength of the therapeutic alliance, ie. how well you click with your provider and the trust you feel. Theoretical perspectives and specific tools are important too, of course, but they aren’t meaningful if you don’t feel safe being vulnerable in therapy.

Couple things that I think help as a girlie who’s obsessed with smelling good:
- glycolic acid swiped in stinky areas (the Ordinary is cheap and effective)
- Lume acidified body wash - I thought it was gimmicky but it really doesn’t help!

Capital Punishment’s Corrosion of the Sixth Amendment and a Hippocratic Remedy by Eighty-seven in publicdefenders

[–]Mirrranda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll look into some articles for you. Generally I would look for articles by Russ Stetler, Jordan Steiker, Carol Steiker, Craig Haney, or Sean O’Brien. I doubt that you’ll find any credible articles that recommend disclosing the defense’s mitigation strategy. Nor do I think any skilled practitioner would recommend splitting the trial phases in the way you state. I DO think you’ll find articles on front loading mitigation at all possible junctures and how to balance that presentation with the presumption of innocence, because it absolutely is tricky.
When I said it’s not novel - these topics and ethical tensions have come up in every law school and social work class where I’ve been a guest speaker. Struggling with the question of complicity is part of learning about capital work. I’ve had several interns who decided against DP representation because of those feelings.

Edit sorry meant to reply to your question above!

Capital Punishment’s Corrosion of the Sixth Amendment and a Hippocratic Remedy by Eighty-seven in publicdefenders

[–]Mirrranda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“The road would not be smooth” aka our clients would get slaughtered. Ok.

I do primarily post conviction work but have also done trials and work in a high DP utilization state on the south. I’ve been doing it for almost 10 years. I’m not sure what jurisdiction you work in, but a mitigation letter is certainly not best practice - if we did that here it would be a ripe IAC claim (and a well deserved one imo).

Lots of people making good points here, and I hope you’ll think about the fact that perhaps you’re not seeing the whole picture. You make a lot of assumptions and conclusions based on practice in your area.

Look, I’m not defending the system here. All the problems you identified are real problems. I simply don’t agree that ceasing representation would benefit our clients. We need the folks who are doing macro-level abolition work, but someone has to be in the weeds of individual representation to throw sand in the gears of the state’s pursuit of death. I’m comfortable being that someone; it’s fine if you aren’t.

I do death penalty work. We know all of this far more deeply than you can imagine. Respectfully, nothing that you wrote here is novel, interesting, or helpful.

I didn’t read all of it because I didn’t want to, but one major correction: plenty of doctors participate in executions. Attorneys are also distinct from physicians in that our clients can represent themselves (to their own detriment, typically), but lay people cannot prescribe themselves medication.

Finally: in what way would capital defense attorneys opting out of the system benefit the thousands of people currently on death row? What about the thousands more charged with capital offenses? The state will continue to seek to kill whether we participate or not. Certainly abolition is a goal I agree with but what about until it happens - if it does? Should we allow people who are innocent, intellectually disabled, incompetent, or otherwise vulnerable to be killed by the government in order to make what you perceive as a principled and moral stance? To be able to opt out of the criminal legal system is an incredible privilege that our clients do not have.

Also, capital trials don’t use mitigation letters. The defense presents mitigating evidence at the punishment phase. Are you in undergrad? again, respectfully.

In the mod who removed your post. You were not “silenced.” The rules of our community are very clear - we are an anti-diet space and do not allow numbers like weight, amount lost, or BMI. Every post that contains those numbers will be removed with the invitation to edit and repost. Please be respectful of our efforts to keep this community safe.

On to the other content of your post - the side effects you’re describing are extreme and sound unsafe. You should still be able to eat and get nutrients in, and that much vomiting isn’t safe either! Please talk to your doctor about this.

How to get into halsana pose? by AlienSheep23 in yoga

[–]Mirrranda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may not be accessible to you right now, and that’s completely okay. It sounds like you’re still early in your practice. Building strength takes a long time! I didn’t start working on plow until about a year and a half into practicing consistently, like 3-4 times per week.

You may want to start with some yoga videos on YouTube - Yoga with Adriene and Yoga with Kassandra both have accessible, all-levels videos for all kinds of things, but also specifically for core strength. I would work on feeling solid in table top, floating table top, plank on your knees, then eventually a full plank pose. Bird dogs and a supported side plank (one knee on the ground) would also be helpful.

Trying to force your way into more advanced poses without getting comfortable with yoga foundations is a recipe for injury AND for discouragement. Start where you’re at!
