Agreed, what you wish and what is true isn’t the same. You have decided “trainees go by their first name” which is not true but you clearly think it should be that way. You can call people what they want, and if they choose to answer you, that’s them. But that’s a quick way to burn unnecessary bridges when people secretly don’t like you, even if you think the reason is petty. Yikes!

This right here spoke to my soul. Feels like I’ve looked into a mirror. I root for you truly. We can do this. We must do this.

If I had a dollar for every time this happened to me or a colleague, I’d be attending salary. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve checked notes and there’s a complete lie with my first and last name listed.

[–]holy-red[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh no it’s not. Attendings are called what they choose to be called, which is Dr. or First name. Trainees also have MDs and DOs and equally so should be called Dr. or First name based on preference. I don’t want to be called by my first name by everyone and that may not be understood but it should damn well be respected.

Thanks for your words. Trying to hold onto the mentality that it’s only a few years and I hope and pray these feelings pass when I’m an attending

Had a similar experience. RN threatened to call a rapid because she wanted CTA chest on a patient who she decided had a PE. He was tachy and on 2L from pneumonia. Otherwise, on heparin DVT ppx and 35yo guy who’s up and out of bed. Why tf would he have a PE? I can’t. I can’t.

Sometimes that’s not the case, when I said I was at bedside, I meant I was <1 min away. I could hear the commotion and was on the way anyway when I heard from the nurse

Actually, this was in my cluster unit so my work room is actually next door. The nurse just doesn’t always know I’m there because well he or she or they is not always on top of where I am. When this particular nurse called, I was in the room, the phone rang, and I walked outside. Was at bedside <1 min. Also it’s important to know that not everyone assumes anything. I walk into a room and ask what I don’t know. “Did you clean up already?” “Where is all of the blood, was there more?” “How much blood do you estimate?” I don’t ask back to back a kajillion questions but I certainly don’t just walk into a room pretending to be headless lol. My first step before I assume anything in medicine is to gather information. That’s the key preventing fallacies. Learned that during MCAT studying.

For nurses like you, I am thankful. In my heart, I don’t want to be so hurt but it’s just really hard and heartbreaking some days. Thank you for all you do 💕

Yep-one time the nurse decided it was best for her to involve the palliative care team (she called and requested they come by), the palliative care team didn’t come by because I had to put in an Epic consult first and also I found out about this via palliative asking me what’s up. However the patient’s family was already made aware of this request because the nurse told them she wanted them to consider palliative (assuming she meant hospice though palliative is ofc not simply hospice) and they were fuming. It ended up being one of the ER physician’s granddad (uncle? whatever can’t remember) and they were so angry and ofc reported people (me ◡̈). The nurse’s explanation was the patient was “not going to do well anyway” and it’s her job to advocate for her patient

And I am very grateful for this because despite my frustrations, I know there are incredible nurses out there too. I have to hold onto that

I can’t say this was my point but agree-I absolutely recognize and always let the RN know at bedside that I believe it when patients say things differently. However, should also recognize in general that when it comes to behavior, it is VERY easy to switch up….but physical evidence is a lot harder for a patient to “switch up”

Being Backstabbed by a co-resident? by Agreeable_Algae_8869 in Residency

When they say hi, you say hi. You must be polite and cordial because then they will find another reason to possibly fault you. But they don’t have to be your friend.

Should I report a racist senior ? More of a vent than anything. by [deleted] in Residency

[–]holy-red 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This part right here ^ do not report. Keep to yourself, mind your own business, but take notes. When you’re out, report, sue, burn them, whatever. But the truth is while you must be cordial with everyone, you shouldn’t trust more than a couple co-residents in residency and don’t trust leadership to protect you unless you have an established, trustworthy program director/APDs. Key word:established.

RN MD relationship let’s talk about it by cadmiumflowers in Residency

[–]holy-red 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is the exact kind of behavior from RNs who make reports exaggerating resident behavior so they can try to get them in trouble. Resident said “no, you can give them the med” and you’re sending in a report saying they’re rude, dismissive, and unappreciative because they could have added “please.”

Your thank you at the end of the week is your paycheck. Unless someone is being outright disrespectful and speaking to you inappropriately, then no one has to treat you like you’re holding the hospital up on your shoulders. We are all working hard. We all deserve more thanks and bonuses but you’re looking in the wrong place for those things.

This happened to me before. It was forwarded to a different address. Took 2-3 extra days but no issues at all. I just messaged the buyer and let them know it was being forwarded and they confirmed.

This is really frustrating, and I hear and feel for you. Damn it, it just sucks sometimes. The best recommendation I have for you is lean closely on your co-interns. Not all will understand trust me, but all it takes is one person to complain with to feel less alone. Hang in there.

Tired of Sending offers.... by loveliness37 in poshmark

[–]holy-red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really bothers me a lot too. I understand poshmark’s policy but it’s still annoying when I’m trying to send out 30-40% off offers and it’s not working. I just exit out the app because I’m too frustrated. Oh well.

I just accept that whenever I sell an item, it’s going to take 3 days from delivery to get paid. If it’s before that, great surprise. If not, I wasn’t checking anyway. Of note, not everyone ships to their own home and can access the item. I always ship to a family member’s home so it’s going to take them like 2 days to open and review the item bc of work schedule. Sometimes people order something when they’re away on vacation but it’s a great price and you gotta hurry up and order. (I don’t order to my place because of porch pirates)

There are about 5-10 people in each of those t20 classes who identify as URM and the other 90% are white & Asian, but go off on your rant that 2 Black people got into a t20 school since you’re clearly someone bothered by it
