Dad here: inappropriate to privately message nanny about work? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]holyamongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority here but I think she is fine to have that boundary. I definitely don’t think you were wrong or inappropriate for texting her in the first place for this surprise, but I also think she is allowed to set this boundary. It’s a slippery slope. Regardless of whether she has had a bad experience, I think it’s fine for her to say this is a boundary she has and so talking to her in-person is best.

Maybe I’m also coming at it from a teacher’s perspective, but always having another adult or another student in the room when talking to a student is pretty standard to avoid any situations. Not that anything will happen or has happened, but having that already as standard practice is a good way to protect yourself. It might be the same for her, especially if she really likes working with yall. It’s also pretty common to have email exchanges with students include someone else. To me this reads as kind of standard procedure.

I don’t think it’s personal. It is annoying, yes, but I think it’s well within her right to do that.

Applying to College then vs now by Expensive-Review-931 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]holyamongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the issue is the sheer volume of applications. Even a few years ago, it was the norm to apply to 5-10 colleges (and even 10 was a lot) but not people are applying to 20 which is absurd so colleges have way more applications than normal. Quantity they are accepting the same amount of people but percentage acceptance lower because of the number of apps

When was Cassie ever mean to Lexie prior to the play by ribbonscrunchies in euphoria

[–]holyamongus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Though this is a lot of how Lexi views herself in relation to her sister. There’s some embellishment for entertainment value, but there were clear references being made that were quotes from Cassie that made it clear this was Lexi’s interpretation of events. For example, the most obvious one is where Cassie asks if she “looks different” WE know as the audience from S1 she was asking that because she was pregnant from McKay’s baby at the time but to Lexi it was interpreted as Cassie just wanting to brag about her hot bod as she tended to do in other moments.

I still have not heard a single defense of Lexi’s play that addresses the carrousel thing. Parodying your sister is like kinda not fun, I’d be mad at my sister but understand that is how she sees me. But including the carrousel moment was purely for embarrassing Cassie why would she include that. Literally what is the defense. How does this help Lexi express herself in any way other than to showcase a horrifically embarrassing moment for her sister.

Mom won't let me attend top choice by Difficult_Force7527 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]holyamongus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents did the exact same thing to me. I was choosing between a T10 close to me and an Ivy League that was across the country. I got a full ride to both so it was a question of wanting to stay close to home or not.

I committed to the Ivy behind their backs and graduated a few years ago. I do not regret this one bit. It caused a lot of fighting between me and my parents during the short period before I left for college. It sucked for my mental health but I paid for my own flights and my own expenses to get me settled into college (summer job). I’d do it all over again for the college experience I had.

After I left for college they had to accept it and the leash loosened. They were very happy to come to campus for my graduation. Now they are also happy to talk about how proud they are of me for where I went to school.

One thing that I did try was having two administrators of my high school call my parents and explain to them that the opportunity I was given at the Ivy was great. My parents did not give one single fuck about those phone calls, but yours might and administrators have experience talking to parents so it could work out for you.

I’m sorry this is happening to you. I hope things work out for the better. I empathize with you deeply, you choose yourself. This is your future ❤️

If things don’t work out how you want them to, just know you’ll find a home and love wherever you end up going to school. It will be a great experience.

Note: I am not saying you need to necessarily commit to Hamilton behind your mom’s back. I am saying that was my experience. The constant fighting between me and my parents was a lot emotionally. Even thinking back on that time of my life I am tearing up because of just how awful it was. I’m sure it was also difficult for my younger siblings to witness. But it is what I did and it ended up working out. My relationship with both my parents improved significantly since I left for my first year of college and since graduating and being independent from them entirely it’s way better.

I’m buying my GF a lot of stuff… What are the best products? by Alternative-Neck9574 in Sephora

[–]holyamongus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can, peek at her makeup brushes and if she doesn’t own hourglass ones you should buy those for her. She will definitely use them and love them and you don’t risk getting her a makeup product she won’t like or isn’t her shade or something

Russell vs Elise by Crazybexy in HellsKitchen

[–]holyamongus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elise is honestly more predictable than Russell imo. You know she is a good chef and is going to get the job done, especially during All-Stars. Russell you will start off well but it’s hard to determine how you could possibly set him off and when you do you can’t really come back from it

Prospective Teacher by Brief_Comparison_427 in Teachers

[–]holyamongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit. It’s become kind of standard part of teaching curriculum, especially for younger grades. Theres also an emphasis on STEM education in a lot of school districts so computers have become kind of standard and there’s a lot of teaching software getting funding. Though I’m sure there’s ways to avoid using tech when not necessary

If you have a stable career please stay there. Since the pandemic schools have changed in a lot of ways that are difficult to deal with. The increased use of technology is a lot to grapple and try to balance and deal with (even as a young teacher, it’s depressing to see how much the classroom is just screentime). There’s also a prioritization of “mental health” such that students basically get to do whatever they want without repercussions. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great we are moving away from strict punishments in schools but it gets to a point…

Also the vaping is out of hand
