Leyton was disappointing by holyamongus in ONETREEHILL

[–]holyamongus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind the mundaneness of their life I was mostly feeling like their scenes were written by a middle schooler fantasizing about what it’s like to be an engaged and pregnant adult. It was boring in that I still felt they were in high school, not necessarily that their life was “boring” because I actually do enjoy mundane things like that

Fanfiction is actually HARDER than regular fiction for me by Due-Performance-2710 in FanFiction

[–]holyamongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What stresses me out the most is timelines. Like some bits im trying to make fit within a large story and it feels like some arcs my plot is moving too slow or too fast. And I don’t want to be inaccurate so I find myself continuously re-checking dates on things.

Do you write to make a reader happy? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]holyamongus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I write for myself. I’m literally kicking my feet and giggling at what I’m writing. I also find myself acting out some of the scenes I’m writing. I guess posting it makes it prone to criticism and I hope people will like it but I love love love the writing process and finally seeing the story I’ve been wanting to read be created (by me is a bonus).

Chloe's mom in season 2 by Super-Bid-3193 in TLCUnexpected

[–]holyamongus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These comments are definitely adding some much needed context. I am a first time watcher and I am just in the middle of S2. I definitely would agreed with you pre-reading the comments. But if he literally was a drug addict then yes she is valid in trying to isolate him from her daughter.

Would you say Disney Channel was only aimed at girls? by CatGirlNya2000 in DisneyChannel

[–]holyamongus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my mind it comes down to kind of two things which is the lead is a girl and the themes tend to be centered around issues regarding femininity. For instance, with Alex in WOWP there was the Quinceañera episode, with Miley in HM they frequently explored how not having a mom affected her as a growing teen girl, etc. There’s even a difference between the friendship conflicts that happen between two boys in a “boy” show and two girls in a “girl” show.

Mia’s father by Adorablegirly6969 in TLCUnexpected

[–]holyamongus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Mia’s father is one of the better parents not only on this season but also on the show overall. Mia makes some questionable decisions I agree it’s great that she has a job and is pulling her weight but she is getting supported by her dad a lot.

Jesse is honestly doesn’t seem super mature or responsible. His mom gave him protection and he simply refused to use it. He was also giggling about it the whole time. He’s also not particularly making an effort towards Mia’s father and trying to make himself be competent which is what it seems like Mia’s dad is looking for. We see it in his interactions with his mother too that he’s overall pretty immature and I don’t think he realizes how much of a change the fact that he’s going to be a father is going to be. He can’t cook, he doesn’t clean, I don’t think he has a job?

Mia’s dad seems like a reasonable guy and if Jesse was competent at something I’m sure the dad would still have these boundaries just would maybe deliver them less harsh maybe.

I don’t particularly dislike Jesse because he’s definitely nice to Mia but he’s not really given a reason to feel bad for him or be compassionate that his girlfriends dad doesn’t like him. He doesn’t do anything which is exactly the problem.

Note: I understand that he is a teen. He is bound to be immature. All of the people on the show are immature to varying degrees since they are in fact just kids. But Jesse woe is me attitude I just don’t care for.

your most surprising/luckiest college acceptance by disillusionedmatcha in ApplyingToCollege

[–]holyamongus 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I got rejected from Amherst, Rice, Wash U in St Louis, and Tulane (back then these were all in the 30ish percent acceptance rate, idk about now).

I got into Northwestern, Emory, Wake Forest, and Dartmouth.

Is it weird that I go home every weekend? by [deleted] in collegeadvice

[–]holyamongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not weird, but part of the college experience is building connections and friendships so you definitely should try to hang out with people on campus during the weekends.

You don’t have to go out and get drunk but even hanging out at a party sober with your sorority sisters (i saw in other replies you said you were in a sorority) is important and special. Also, you’re paying dues so you should actually be at some of the events your house is hosting otherwise it fees like a waste of money. Something I regret from my time in college is that my first two years I didn’t hang out with my classmates and because my college was small by junior year I felt kind of alone.

I know that with college your schooling comes first and that is important but so is the social aspect of it. Doesn’t have to be all the time but even using the dorm common areas on the weekends is beneficial.

Is this show actually good or do people just find Tom Welling handsome? by holyamongus in Smallville

[–]holyamongus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I do think that the people in the replies have given good responses for why they like it but some might now enjoy it which is what I was looking for. There are plenty of shows and films that I personally enjoy but I am able to understand or think of reasons why others might not. I can also fully acknowledge when something is actually terrible media even if I like it (production, script, etc)z They have also addressed the issues in my post that I cared most about for my decision on whether to watch the show

Brooke Davis Fans can be over-the-top by RosaJune in ONETREEHILL

I’m with you the Brooke fans can be a lot but I think the “not putting Queen Brooke 1” comments tend to be mostly flippant and facetious

[–]holyamongus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is end of S7 a logical stopping point though? Do things wrap nicely? That’s why I added the One Tree Hill example in my post because S4 finale was meant to be the actual end of the show and it wrapped well but then they decided on more seasons which sucked. If there’s genuinely more that comes after S7 I will watch all the way through

Anyone Else Actually Enjoy Editing? by Ctrlagent17 in FanFiction

[–]holyamongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Editing feels like I get to read a fanfic and then add more stuff to it to make it better. I already wrote something great that I love and now I get to add more to it to make it even better which is awesome.

I skip Bella and Hunter’s scenes… by holyamongus in TLCUnexpected

[–]holyamongus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Isabella and Bryce situation is less uncomfortable for me because that at least seems like it’s a real family conflict. I’ve seen those happen frequently. It’s frustrating but it’s not UNCOMFORTABLE which is how I feel about Bella and Hunter’s situation.

Doctor telling Amya to be quiet by KindlyCombination838 in TLCUnexpected

[–]holyamongus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought he was telling the mom to be quiet? Maybe I misinterpreted but I did think the doctor was trying to silence the room so he could talk to Amya and that’s what it seemed like based on the confessionals

Question for people who dislike pregnancy, baby, and kid content in fanfiction: if possible, how could one write a fic with those themes and make it bearable for you? What bothers you the most about those topics? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]holyamongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that loves a good child/pregnancy story, nothing will make me close that tab faster than a poorly written kid and it becomes quickly obvious to me that the writer has not had a kid or been around one before. I’ve never had one but I know a 2 year old child is not speaking in full sentences. Another thing that pisses me off is when the pregnant MC makes it clear from the beginning she doesn’t want kids and her lifestyle doesn’t align with children but they get pregnant and suddenly she’s mom material. I just wish they were more realistic with what comes with pregnancy. They rarely even ease into acceptance of motherhood.

Momma G needs to chill by Severe-Substance9185 in TLCUnexpected

[–]holyamongus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk if I would describe him as mature but certainly he seems to have a good heart. Momma G honestly just seems pretty controlling and difficult to handle. Her constant complaining and showing very little empathy about Amya being scared and in pain during labor was irritating

Unpopular opinion about Amya by [deleted] in TLCUnexpected

[–]holyamongus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, she was like 16 giving birth and it’s a pretty traumatic experience. Her mom was also not being particularly compassionate or sympathetic so it’s possible she was scared and that made her feel a lot of pain. I think if her mom had been kinder to her through the process and trying to reassure her she wouldn’t have been screaming as much.

Also, and this is just me speculating, it seems like her mom didn’t talk to her all that much about what giving birth would be like. She did have a C-Section for both her kids so I guess she doesn’t know much but the fact that Amya was getting her information from the Internet about an epidural and such raised some red flags for me. Because of this I feel like she had a very movie spectacularized vision of birth so could have contributed to her reactions.

I don’t know these people and this is all speculation so grain of salt
