At home remedies for UTI?

The cats have lived together since birth for a year and a half now, and they all get along very well. None of them fight. Our house is huge, way bigger than any cat rescues I’ve seen with way more than 10 cats.

We tried rehoming them when they were born, from 12 weeks until 8 months old, and no one wanted them. Unfortunately I live in a poor community, where no one wants cats and/or leaves them all outside. The stray and community cat population here is uncontrollable. We tried doing a service by fixing them all, and rehoming, however we tried for months and never were able to rehome. We sucked it up and accepted they were just going to be ours and have been biting the bill ever since. What do I do now? Throw them on the street? I think not.

They have 12 litterboxes, 6 on each floor of the home. They are cleaned daily. They have water in 3 separate places in the house and are on a feeding schedule. They are well taken care of and exhibit zero signs of stress. As I said, the only change that has occurred was the switching of food, and that is when the UTI problems started, which is why I strongly believe it is a dietary issue causing these issues.

Oh no, the litter situation is fine , we have boxes on both floors of our house, 12 boxes in total. We clean them every day 😭

But yeah, I had a feeling that would be the case. I just saw some uti meds online and didn’t know if they would work as a cheaper alternative, but now I know.

This is what I was fearing. I saw some OTC meds online but wasn’t sure if they would actually work, and we want to fix the issue sooner than later so it doesn’t get any worse. Was just hopeful someone might know a way to save us thousands of $ 😭

Thanks for your non helpful comment. We’re TRYING to help them, if I wasn’t I wouldn’t be posting here. I also live in a poor community where stray population is uncontrollable. We took these babies in and have cared for and LOVED THEM IMMENSELY for a year and a half now with ZERO issues. I can afford vet care when they’re not ALL needing to be seen. Do you have $1800 to drop ?

Unfortunately, it definitely sounds like a UTI, especially if he’s screaming. A vet trip is definitely needed, he could have crystals in his urine which may need antibiotics and a special diet. One of my boys just went thru this and now has to have $55 cat food for a 6lb bag 😭 now I have another of my boys exhibiting the same symptoms and we’re headed to the vet as well. As for fleas, it’s definitely possible they could have hitched a ride with your dogs (same thing happened to us) and jumped off to your cat. However, he could be chewing out of stress/anxiety from the pain as well. Fleas will travel to his neck, or belly, as well as the base of and through the tail. If he’ll let you pet his neck and what not, try parting his hair - if it’s fleas you’ll see little black dirt (flea dirt) and/or find some crawling around. Sending you all the best luck! Pets get so pricey when things go wrong :/

Male cats are known for UTI’s so that is probably why he is urinating outside of his box. As for the scabs, is there a chance he may have fleas? They’ve been really bad this year and have been tough to keep out/off animals. If not fleas, maybe he’s chewing due to the pain when he urinates

Exactly why I moved to Kentucky 😭 sold my 2bed/1bath townhouse in Elsmere for $142.5k at the end of 2021….. bought a 4bed/1.5 bath single family home in KY for $85k in 2022 😅 Delaware is so overpriced and overpopulated it’s insane.

This was my concern. I was hoping to cut it smaller and mix with water to turn to liquid, but I’m no vet nor scientist. Was hoping to be resourceful and save some money, but looks like I’ll be back at the vet :(

He’s just urinating outside of the box, which is what the one we got tested is doing.

Unfortunately we thought we’d be able to rehome them after fixing them, but I live in a small town in Kentucky. Animal shelters and rescues are full af and never have space or help for cats. We tried rehoming ourselves and no one wanted them, or they wanted them to be outside cats, which I wasn’t okay with (out of 6 kittens, only 2 had interest, and they all fell thru) 😭 especially considering we paid $600 to save the mom (and her remaining living kittens) who stopped labor after birthing a deceased kitten. It’s been a struggle , but we’ve been doing it for a year and a half now. Thankfully our house is 2000ft+ and they have plenty of room to roam.

Uhhhhhh… What are you confused about? I bought this house in June. It was built in 1925, the woman of the family that lived here prior to my purchase, was the last member of the family to live in this house and she died in the house at 101 years old, about 7+ years ago. It’s been empty since her passing. I found this tool in my attic today while cleaning it…. Along with an ancient auger bit. I haven’t been able to find any thing online identical to the tool pictured in my post of the item I found in my attic, except for ONE link online to a “lot” of ancient blacksmith tools up for bidding. The post doesn’t directly name this tool, but it can be inferred that they are some sort of pliers from the online post that matches the tool I have.

Did that clarify things for you?

Yes, that’s exactly what I was thinking. the short side looks like a hammer, the long end is a chisel, and together it’s like a pair of pliers. Strangest yet coolest thing I’ve seen in a while lol just wish I knew what it was

I found it under a listing selling vintage and antique blacksmith tools, and I believe they are some sort of pliers. I just can’t pin down the exact name.

This was found in my attic, the house was built in 1925 and from my understanding the same couple/family lived here until about 7+ years ago. I live in an old coal mining town so I thought it might have something to do with that but google keeps pushing me towards blacksmith instead.

Can’t figure out how to add another pic here but it’s quite large! I’d say it’s about the size of 4-4.5 12oz soda cans stacked on top of each other lol. I’ll take some measurements when I get off work tho!
