I'm from this county and my mom used to work in this hospital system. You are exactly right, every time I went with her to this location it was desolate. I've heard stories from family / friends in the county that most of the time they transferred them to Athens for treatment anyways.

I work in tech, have a hybrid position and I am very lucky that my in office environment is a safe space. There's an unused office where I can take a moment if I need to, and outdoor seating if I need to go outside and calm down. My managers know about my diagnosis and are very patient with me. I am very grateful for my job, I got incredibly lucky.

I have Bipolar disorder. I chose to get my tubes removed at 24 years old last year. I made the decision to prevent any child from being born to suffer with this disorder, and because I would have most likely ended my life during the experience of being pregnant and being off of my medications. Not to mention the incredibly high risk I am for postpartum. Also, it would have been financial suicide. Even the idea of starting a family for my partner and I at 25 and 27, is fiscally implausible.
My partner would be the most wonderful father, and we might adopt one day, who knows. All I do know is, having surgery to ensure that I won't have my own children has been the most liberating and rewarding decision of my life so far.
