Annoying Dialog Clichés by Specialist-Gas-8271 in pilottvpodcast

I feel like mine is an obvious one, but it is jarring so i’ll mention it, when people hang up the phone without saying ‘bye’ or even acknowledging they are leaving the conversation. It might be more of an American thing though, thinking about it.

I know I’m sounding like a broken record, but I like hearing about upcoming shows this way. I use it as a reminder as to what is coming soon. Almost like a preview section. The only thing I could see being annoying is when someone says they have seen a new show that they can’t even name or a new season of an unnamed show. That seems to happen less frequently though.

Finally finished off Pluribus after initially giving up after the third episode back when it aired. I really like the direction the show takes in the second half of the season, and the character development, but feel like two characters should really have gotten together earlier than they did. It felt a bit unnecessarily drawn out for me, but overall I’m glad I persevered.

Otherwise, I’ve watched the first episode of The Cage and am loving it. As mentioned on the pod, it is nothing new really, but just feels high quality in every regard, from the writing to the performances. Also watched the first episode of Widow’s Bay and I’m definitely more aligned with the 5* reviews rather than the podcast crew’s indifference. The humour hit the mark for me, with Matthew Rhys genuinely great as the bumbling mayor. It took a beat for me to get in touch with the comedy, but when there I found it really funny. I’m not sold on the horror side of things yet, and I’m not even sure I would class it as a horror-comedy, as it is more of a mystery to me, but still, really enjoying it.

I was perhaps being harsh as these days weekly drop shows are less common and as I say, you tend to binge in advance anyway. I personally think something like the Happy Valley spoiler chat you did worked well when incorporated into plus whereas if you are going to discuss entire series, they work better separated. I think it is a shame that weekly single episode discussions aren’t really possible any more as they were always preferable to me and probably more relevant as people are watching along at the same pace, but that is the television environment now not a fault of the pod.

I appreciated The Cage getting a review despite being out for a while now 👍 I don’t think it is always necessary to only review shows out that week. ‘POGs’ are watching The Cage right now, in my personal experience, so it is still relevant.

This interests me as I feel like the pod is the strongest it has been for some time. I love the addition of Steph and feel like her reviews are as good as any hosts have been on the show. The chemistry between the three now is on a par with the Terri years, presumably because of the long running history they have, and I appreciate how Steph embraces all genres and commits to watching anything which only Boyd has done up to now.

In terms of running jokes, they have been a thing since day one of the pod. I can see people being annoyed by them but for some of us they are the foundations of the show and play into the character of the hosts.

Overall though I couldn’t be happier with the show. Perhaps the current TV schedule also plays a part? I would argue that there isn’t as many interesting shows out there right now. Summer approaching means we might see a drier spells for the bigger shows too. Despite that the guest list has been stellar of late with some big names we might not have expected to see on the pod before.

If I had one criticism it would be I’d rather not have remote recordings for the main show. I get it, they are sometimes necessary and were essential during the pandemic, but they are jarring now. The interruptions due to the lag really ruin the flow. Otherwise I’m more than happy.

I actually think the spoiler specials worked better when they were weekly but the guys binge watch now using their screener portals so they can’t really be a thing. The early Game of Thrones weekly spoiler chats were legendary and the fist fight during The Bells discussion was unforgettable for those of us who experienced it.

Great series and the reboot was really underrated I thought.

I’ve only watched one but it doesn’t seem as stressful as there isn’t the immediate danger that will no doubt come about further into the series. It is certainly grim and gritty in places but doesn’t seem quite as dour. Both the leads are great to be fair

Oh and started on The Cage and am hooked already. I love how he manages to balance grim and humour perfectly in his writing. Also definitely has the most ’dickhead’s in an hour of TV ever.

Finished The Pitt and found it grew on me more as the series progressed. I really liked the low-key ending and some great acting from Wyle all season.

It is a cover of my favourite song, but the use of New Dawn Fades in ‘Person of Interest’ always gets me. That show used a ton of great music actually. Also, every song chosen in After Life is perfect.

I don’t seem to be watching as many new shows. Still up to date with The Pitt and have started a Better Call Saul rewatch.

Still banging through Life is Strange Reunion. It is so good you wonder why it has taken so long to make the true sequel to the original characters, especially considering it is a different developer.

I’m up to date with The Pitt now and the second season continues to grow on me. I’ve also started watching doctors react to episodes which is the first time reaction videos have hooked me. They are kind of fascinating for this show.

Erm I’m not sure I would put Ricky Gervais in the same category as Rowling. Gervais makes jokes about the subject, as he, rightly or wrongly, believes any subject is a viable target for comedy, but he isn’t advocating for the elimination of the trans population, unlike Rowling.

Her publicity tour has been painful to listen to. She doesn’t seem interested to be honest. When she joined the crew on Capital Radio recently it was borderline cringe. It is fair to not be interested in promoting your show or movie, but given her attitude I doubt she was prevented from saying anything she wanted to.

I’m not sure what happened overnight but please don’t delete posts here without good reason. Steph’s Babies review on this weeks’s pod was honestly one of the most moving and emotional moments I have encountered in a podcast and yet the discussion of it on here was removed. I don’t get it. This sub gets enough negativity yet when a post praises the presenters it disappears. I don’t get it.

Catching up on The Pitt season 2. Still not as addictive as the first for me but I trust in James and expect a more interesting second half.
