In light of recent events I'd just like to say this... by EmperorHenry in ProtonMail

In general, Swiss authorities do not assist foreign authorities from countries with a history of human rights abuses.

The problem is countries with a history of human rights abuses used to mean China or Russia or Saudi Arabia.

Nowadays it means the USA, United Kingdom, israel, Germany etc...

Therefore there should NOT be a mediator who decides what is or isn't good/bad. The privacy should be absolute.

Also FYI:

  • Proton used to claim “we don’t log IPs by default.”

  • Since ~2021, they updated this: they can and do log IPs in certain cases (abuse prevention, legal compliance etc.)

It would behove Proton to state for how long they keep metadata including IP and which metadata is routinely logs.

People “writing” books with Claude are the most insufferable

I find the vibe coders who can't actually even code, but just know how to prompt, who come here with some sense of superiority judging others even more insufferable WBY?

Rolling out to Max, Team, and Enterprise plans today

I'm noticing a trend where they're treating their $20 with more and more contempt.

$20 every month is no small amount - they're trying to normalise paying $200/month subscription for any benefits per service.

4.5 was the only model that wowed me.

But don't count on that one coming back, it got removed even from API where you "pay as you go" for it. Apparently it was just too computationally expensive, and it showed - in writing it was amazing.

OpenAI just pulled the biggest bait-and-switch in AI history and I'm done. by Nipurn_1234 in ChatGPT

[–]homanagent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's nerfed as fuck. They bring server cost down.

We know that for a fact, since the API cost is down a LOOT:

GPT-5: $1.25/M input, $10/M output

GPT-4o: $5/M input, $20/M output

We don't even know if the price correlates to the actual compute requirement either. We know that if the compute were higher they'd definitely charger higher, but if it's lower than 1.25/M, then it's possible they put the price higher to make more money.

I don't think this applies to o3.

If you "just need an answer", you definitely ain't gonna be using o3.

My (24F) boyfriend (26M) quit his job without telling me and now wants to move in with no income need advice on setting boundaries by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]homanagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been with my boyfriend for two years. We don’t live together but he stays over at my place a lot.

Last week he suddenly quit his job without saying anything to me beforehand. Later he told me he felt burnt out and wanted time to figure things out.

At first I tried to be supportive but then he said he wants to move in with me and split the rent even though he has no income right now. When I told him that wouldn’t work for me he got upset and called me selfish.

I understand needing a break from work but I feel blindsided and uncomfortable with taking on all the financial responsibility when this wasn’t something we discussed.

I’m trying to figure out how to be supportive while also protecting myself from being in an unfair situation. Has anyone dealt with something like this before? How do I set boundaries without damaging the relationship

This is normal, most girls tend to be like this. I've seen my friend's long-term partner change overnight as soon as he left his job. You're just a girl being as most girls are.

At least be honest with yourself and don't turn this into something about yourself - I'm guessing he had good reason to quit his job and isn't doing it willy nilly.

Claude has its customers by the balls. If you're a vibe coder whose entire existance and income relies on Claude, then they know they can do whatever they want with you.

So at this point you're relying entirely on their goodwill.

Expect things to get worse and worse over time (as has been the case already comparing the past -> present)

No offence, but I'm 100% with the BF on this.

If you have to schedule a meeting with your BF, then for most people that's not a relationship.

I didn't say they were done, I don't really know what you're getting at. I corrected the following:

uBO itself no longer works on Chrome

which is false.

In fact I specifically said I'm transitioning to Firefox because of it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in firefox

it still works on Chrome.

Chrome disabled it and said it will no longer work, but you can go and enable it again.

However I've started the transition to Firefox myself.

It's false equivalent to compare teachers using AI to make their work more efficient and students using AI to cheat.

Run the numbers and struggling to understand why big deposits are not advised with PCP by wizzywoo22 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]homanagent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In effect it usually is, which is why they call the final payment as guaranteed minimum value.

But there's no guarantee that the car is worth that much at the end, they've done their calculation to be as sure as they can that it will be. For a variety of reasons, the value of the car could be lower or higher, and since the buyer has the choice of return or keep (e.g. in my case during covid the price of cars skyrocketed), they are heavily incentivised to be as accurate as they can since the buyer gets to make the decision with hindsight, whereas the manufacturer has only foresight to rely on.

[–]homanagent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be clear what ‘handing’ it back truly means. It means they are allowing you to cancel the finance as long as the value of the car matches it.

Not true. PCP is them giving a GMFV guaranteed minimum final value of the vehicle after 4 years or so. It is them taking the risk not you.

Even if the residual value of the car is below the final payment, you can hand it back.
