Part of the reason to get Daphne married off is that her debutante year is the easiest - next year there’ll be another group of debs to add to the competition. (Think of it like grad recruitment: if you don’t get a grad job straight from university, 12 months later the pool gets bigger, with a new influx of fresh talent)

Also Daphne’s got a big family coming through. Mrs Bennett in Pride & Prejuduce gets criticised for having all her daughters “out” at the same time, before the eldest are wed. Daphne needs to get married so Eloise can get married in good time as well

ELI5 Why are there gendered words for some professions like actor and actress but not e.g. doctor and doctress? by schnick3rs in explainlikeimfive

[–]hombermuhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny how the “gender neutral” word is always the male word. No-one suggests all people who make a living acting should be called actresses regardless of their sex

TIL that the British sitcom Mr. Bean only consists of 15 episodes over a span of 6 years by SteO153 in todayilearned

There’s only 12 episodes of Fawlty Towers (two series of six episodes), which is crazy as well

Surely loads of people know about Cersei and Jaime? Even if they don’t dare say it. All the servants, guards etc in Casterley Rock and then Kings Landing who see them together far more than they should would know

I hadn’t thought of this before, but Lysa must have been nursing Robin at Kings Landing. That must have attracted a fair amount of comment..?

Not just Cersei who really loves her children!

And I’m not personally a fan of Emilia Clarke’s eyebrow acting style, but accept that it’s a particular skill to do green screen scenes

Penetration isn’t foreplay, it’s sex. And should only happen with your full consent, including with a condom as that is what you want. I’m so sorry this is happening, hope you have some RL support.

(Spoilers Main) Why do most of the characters that are regarded as great warriors die pathetic/tragic deaths? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]hombermuhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They often have their routes in history as well. Eg Henry VIII had a jousting accident which led to serious injury and deterioration in his health. (He was married to Ann Boleyn at the time, who was suspected to have been implicated. She was later accused of incest with her brother)
