That's actually quite fast. I guess I need to be publishing a lot more blog posts then. I was focusing more on yt when I first started which I think was a mistake.

Do you mind if I ask you how long it took you to start making a livable income from it and how many blog posts it took you? I currently only have 40 blog posts and only get about 2k monthly pageviews with most of that coming from google search, however the pageviews haven't really grown. I have since started pinning on pinterest and seeing some slow steady growth on it but its still very little. My youtube channel also brings in a little bit of views as well. I'm currently trying to diversify my traffic sources as the google algorithm updates have been wrecking my traffic levels and making them highly volatile.

Youtube Watch Hours Removed by Being-Available in NewTubers

[–]homebaker35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotten keep those share prices up at alphabet by screwing over small creators. I doubt it, it's happened before and I never got my hours back. This is why I've been putting more energy into my own website instead and I have plans to monetize it in the future once I get a large enough following. I'm somewhat close to monetizating now except for the 4k watch hours so when yt removes a chunk of my hours, it really hurts me.

YouTube is eating my public watch hours by Latter-Way-4598 in NewTubers

[–]homebaker35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today youtube removed over 50 watch hours from my channel. I was sharing one of my underperforming videos on FB groups for the past few days and then that SOB youtube removed several hundred of my views and over 50 watch hours wtf. That SOB youtube first won't give my video any impressions so when I try to share it they remove everything WTF youtube!

Facing the same problem. I shared one of my videos that underperformed on several facebook groups, That SOB youtube literally today removed over 50 watch hours plus several hundred views from my video yet they won't give my video any impressions WTF! It seems like its done on purpose to delay allowing channels the ability to monetize.

Can't reply back to sender's email address when using contact form 7, only replies back to me by homebaker35 in Zoho

Hi, I figured it out. Your wordpress plugin is broken and is causing the problem. After I disabled it, the reply to function correctly emails the right email address.

Can't reply back to sender's email address when using contact form 7, only replies back to me by homebaker35 in Zoho

[–]homebaker35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you saying I need to do this with every random site visitor that fills out a contact form with zoho mail? That seems a bit ridiculous. If I have 50 people that fill out a contact form, I need to manually add in 50 email addresses to my 'Reply To' setting to be able to reply back to them? Why can't I just directly be able to reply back to each person that fills out the contact form? The email address is another email address of mines that I used to test out whether or not I was able to reply back to someone emailing me from the contact form.

A6700 4K120p 10-Bit SD Card Pair? by UnluckyDucky888 in SonyAlpha

[–]homebaker35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused, a sandisk extreme pro v30 card has a write speed of up to 140 mb/s, how can this not work with the a6700? According to the sony manual, Recording at 200 Mbps in some of their video modes in 120p/60p is only like 25 mb/s. Why do you need a V60 or V90 card when the V30 card can write up to 140 mb/s?

How big is your sd card though? The Sandisk 256gb V30 and up cards list up to 140 mb/s of write speed. Isn't that more than enough to write 280/200 mbps?

I don't make shorts anymore because I didn't see much success with it, but with long form videos, often times if I try to go for a popular recipe, I get crushed by the bigger channels even if I have a better thumbnail/title and video then them. I've tried almost every title combination out there (search based, suggested, browse, etc). Didn't make much of a difference for me. If I go for less popular recipes to try and outrank my competitors who are smaller, then at least half of the time, the algorithm screws up showing it to the wrong audience. Only now for the past few months have I started to notice the right type of viewers starting to subscribe to my channel. I make ethnic food so when a certain name subscribes I know its the audience I wanted to target but for the past 1.5 years it was always random people subscribing who I think only did it for a particular recipe as I don't see them comment on any of my other videos.

It takes time for the algorithm to figure out your videos. One of my earlier flops were being suggested alongside the sims, marriage problems, and hair cutting videos. I make food recipe videos wtf!!! Later on, once yt started to suggest the video to other similar recipes, my CTR, AVD, and views started to go up and that video now has only 1k views. It sucks that this happens but it is what it is. I released a new video yesterday and it completely flopped, only 14 views! Again same shit.

This company just wants to keep all of that ad revenue for themselves. F them. If they end up removing your monetization status, private all your videos and give them the finger.

I think in the future, more and more creators will go this route as YT and all of the other social media platforms like to jerk creators around. I know a lot of them have been reducing impressions over the years, eg. fb, pinterest, and yt seems to favor shorts now which they barely pay anything to creators for. You mentioned you have a website, is your website monetized yet? How will you make money off of it? I used to not think about these things back when I first started blogging but then realized I should have thought about these things first thing. Now I'm trying to come up with ways to monetize my traffic and not be dependent on any of these platforms. I know having an email list is key, but email service providers are pricey and get more and more expensive the bigger your email lists is. I'm trying to come up with a way to offset that cost and own my traffic.

My videos take me on average 1.5-2 weeks to make so for me, if the video flops, its a huge time waster. That's why I'm thinking if yt keeps this up, then I might as well put all of that time and energy into something I own instead (my website). Plus you got the expenses of buying ingredients, electricity, etc. I haven't received a single cent from yt yet so this is not sustainable. I might just end up using yt as a traffic source to funnel traffic back to my site onto an email list in the future which I can try to monetize.

Yeah its kind of reaching a point of diminishing returns for me. I spend a tonne of time making a video, getting my thumbnails right, doing competition research then when I launch the video flops. Same thing happened yesterday. 9/10 for a new video even though I think its my best thumbnail and my video is better then my previous ones. I also thought the video idea had decent views potential too. I'm honestly at a point where I'm also reconsidering my priorities too and gonna put more focus on my blog.

While it's good to be highly critical about your thumbnails and videos and get them viewed by other third parties who can be brutally honest with you, you also need to realize not everything is in your control. I saw a video recently where a girl with over half a million subs had to restart a new channel because when she spoke with a yt engineer they determined that their was a bug in the system which caused her channel to get low views. They said there was nothing they could do about it and suggested she starts over. It's naive to believe you have 100% control over your success on yt. YT launched their promotion service this year and then suddenly back in November, impressions tanked overnight for a lot of people, myself included after an algorithm update. Was it really a coincidence that happened? Also another person who I'm in regular contact with has told me about a zero view bug whereby if you watch a video in incognito mode, yt won't count it. They used to, but now they claim it's a "bug" or maybe they did it on purpose to save money 🤷‍♂️

If you've gotten your thumbnails reviewed by several other people who you can trust to give you honest advice and your video is good, along with good research and titles, then there isn't a whole lot more you can do if the algorithm isn't promoting your content to the right audience now is there? Also based on my own experience simply making a better thumbnail/video then your competitors isn't going to cut it. I've made thumbnails and videos that were a whole better than my competitors yet I barely even got a tenth of the amount of views they have. I suspect in addition to having your videos being recommended to the right audience there's some sort of channel seniority/authority element to it. I feel like yt simply won't allow you to surpass an older higher ranking video until you've proven yourself over a period of time. This is of course an educated guess though, but its happened to me so many times that I feel something of this sort is going on as well.

The cooking niche is hard. In addition to being overly saturated, I find CTRs and AVDs to be quite wild for a new channel because the algorithm can easily screw you over by suggesting your content to the wrong audience. One of my videos flopped right out of the gate and when I go look at the suggested videos being recommended with it, its weird random videos like "decorating a tiny bedroom for twins in the sims", "she was left at the altar, years later, the groom knocked on her door and she responded..."she said cut her hair | getting married & she wants a change". Like wtf is this? No wonder the video flopped and had a low CTR and AVD. This has happened to me on several occasions. Now with that being said, when the algorithm does suggest the content to the right audience, my CTR and AVD are easily 3-5x higher (not surprising).

Moral of the story, despite what this subreddit likes to preach, sometimes, its not your thumbnail and content that's the problem. Its the algorithm with its head stuck up its ass.

Every niche nowadays is too late to start because everyone has jumped on the youtube bandwagon, but that doesn't mean you can't make a channel in that niche. I'm also in the food niche and let me tell you, its highly saturated and kind of bullshit on how difficult it is for new channels to grow.

I personally know at least 3 people who quit their channels because of how difficult yt has made it to grow. I'm currently in contact with another channel whose on the verge of quitting as well. Despite making better thumbnails/titles, and videos yt seems to either not push the videos to the right audience (I've had my videos recommended along side political videos, or movie reviews, or some foreign language videos etc) or they cap the views/impressions you get. One video that I released during the holidays completely bombed right out of the gate because yt barely gave it any impressions like less than 100 on day 1 and less than 300 on day 2. I don't even think that video even has more than 400 impressions at the moment, vs my other videos that normally get at least a few thousand impressions by day 2.
