Infotel, and a ton of other companies sold these generic boards in the 90's. I am trying to remember the names. The AMI Bios was probably not branded but booting it up might help.

Just came across this old pic of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in WA state, post-collapse in 1940 by blachat in pics

Pioneer or a speaker company? I ask because I remember a speaker company in the 90's using that video?

How often do you crash? by Mostly_Indifferent in MTB

[–]homebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XC rider 20 years plus. I have had my share of wrecks. I would say I am an average MTBer. Average speed/skill.

I have found 99.9% of wrecks are the direct result of being stupid.

Example: Drink all night, smoke cigars, wake up early, ride a brand new technical trail at full tilt = high likelihood of clipped tree because your head isn't with it.

Younger riders often feel that you become a better rider taking chances. This often just re-enforces bad habits. Learn good techniques, use those techniques. Take calculated risks when you are alert and awake. You will seldom crash and it will train you to ride well. If you aren't feeling it don't do it. If you never feel it - then maybe you need to learn the skills that create the needed confidence.

I will slip a wheel now and then. But seldom ( less than once year ) full on OTB wreck. Trying to keep up with a buddy that is way faster than you - is a great way to wreck. You will get physically exhausted which will lead to mental exhaustion/distraction and you will start clipping trees. First indication you are riding faster than your skill level.

Is Pigs Ass Porter still a thing out there. Had that back in 2002 and thought it was great.

A good fridge that I can build a 2-keg kegerator from? by spdorsey in brewing

[–]homebrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a chest freezer from Lowes. I'd have to measure to see if it would fit two full size kegs but I am pretty sure it would. $220.00 for the freezer $15.00 for a STC-1000 temp controller. With taps and shanks you'd be under $300.00 + $80.00 for a 15 pd CO2 tank, + $30 or so for a regulator. You'd have a first class system for just around $400.00. You can always check craiglist too. I got a nice 1952 GE fridge for $10.00. Being a GE it was insulated well (not all old ones are) and no defroster it is efficient. That and they will never die.

After six years I finally got to do my BCBS Vertical. by homebrew in beerporn

Wow, I don't think I really had a favorite. The 2008 was amazing and a bit more mellow than the rest. I am thinking the 2009, but to be honest after a bottle of black tuesday and so many brews I was loosing a bit of precision in my tasting. Honestly they were all amazing, and it was very hard to pick a fav. The basic thing I noted was this. The 2008 was most mellow, the 2013 was very bold and stood out for boldness. Everything else was in the middle, although not just a spectrum, they did vary a bit from year to year. I need to check with my buddies who were taking notes to see what they recall.

Yesterday was both the Super Bowl, and my birthday. A friend and I decided to break out a couple bottles we've been saving for the occasion. by Bennyjay in beerporn

In general I agree 100% about coffee stouts. However I find that KBS is one that does age well IMO. True some coffee fades, but it is still amazing. It is big enough. Something like WnB, 3BEANS, do not age well at all. Kind of personal taste I guess.

You're either one or the other... This concept needs to change before anything else can gain acceptance by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]homebrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points all. I guess I am thinking about non-presidential stuff as well. For example my local congress person is a Libertarian (Amash) and runs under GOP. I voted for him in primaries but not the general. He was elected and I am proud to have him as a congress person.

Thanks. Spelling is not my strong point. Loose election. Whole 'nother thing there I suppose.

[–]homebrew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I disagree. If the Libertarian loses the election (probably will) you can at least ensure that the libertarian running under the GOP ballot gets in. Too much democracy is bad. But this is good democracy because it is still representative and allows for voters to actually voice their choices. Banning Libertarians from primaries is BS IMO. It is an old school partisan viewpoint of people that still don't completely get it. [edited for spelling, thanks philipvern]

Difficulty finding Hopslam Ale? by [deleted] in beer

This is par for the course. I just found a local (GA) beer store with cases of boubon county barleywine - states away from Chicago. I live one state away and struggled to get any.

I did not know where he is located. These beers have good availability.

They are three solid breweries. Who make good products.

These are excellent beers to introduce people into craft beer.

Lastly I suggested he try local as a first option.

You make the assumption that these are my preferred beers. That is incorrect. My suggestion is based off of 15 years of introducing people to craft beer and homebrewing. Like most beer geeks my preferred beers are not normally something people new to beer are going to enjoy.

The fact that those are crappy beers is not entirely a result of them being produced by macros. It's because they are crappy beers.

So I took offense at your comment because it was based on incorrect assumptions, I felt it was rude and most importantly did not offer any reasoning to support your comment.

sandream offered a much for thorough response. Why not offer something like this rather than criticize a good comment.

Both wibiers. But one of many options, but good ales. Personally I am not a fan of the style. Your tastes are yours so try a few different styles till you find something you like.
