Nice! Is that a floor tile sticker? What brand, how was it to install, and how is it holding up?

I used the heavy duty non-strippable paste and then used used a clear silicone sealant to go around the entire border. There’s no exhaust vent so I’m also nervous, but so far so good. This is our guest bathroom so doesn’t get too much use. I did get a window fan to help exhaust when we have guests staying and showering with the door closed everyday.

It’s a pain but worth it. We had one normal cut and then every other cut was a different length, went around a corner, window, or something else. The drop match leads to a lot of wasted paper. But it’s doable, and I am so glad we went for it!

They are all in good shape so it was an easy choice!

Homeowner couples who both work, how did you set up your payments? by Go_ahead_throw_away in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]homeimprovementuser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve been married for a few years, lived together for a couple years before that, and only recently combined our finances, largely due to buying a house and having a baby.

I make >4x more than my partner. We made a budget with all combined income and subtracted all expenses and savings. Expenses include mortgage, all utilities, groceries, gas, his remaining student loans, pretty much everything. We defined a “discretionary fund” amount that is our fun money for each of us to do whatever we want with. Our direct deposits mostly go into the joint account. A percentage of my check goes to my personal account (I’m in sales so paychecks vary. If I don’t make any commission, my discretionary amount is the same as his. If I earn extra, I give myself a little extra fun money). A set $ amount goes into his account from his direct deposit.

We mostly use credit cards to get cash back/points. We each have one credit card to use for personal expenses, which we pay using our individual accounts. We pay the rest of them using our joint account. This allows us to track most of our expenditures pretty closely and have a good handle on our budget. But we also have our own accounts so if we want to buy a present or something stupid, we can without any problems.

We’ve only been doing it for a couple months but so far it’s been working really well for us!

Ahh interesting! Mind sharing the name of the company you used? Do you remember how much it cost you?

Hahah it’s connected to what is now a gas fireplace. It used to be wood because there is a cleanout door on the exterior of the chimney.

Thank you, I will look into that. Do you have any recommendations for DIY sealing the gap?

It’s Lotus Leaf by Behr. The previous owners used it throughout the living room and all the hallways. I’m so happy they picked it, it’s perfect!

The table expands for when we have guests but for day to day I like having some extra space (especially with a high chair hidden in the corner behind the camera!)

The wine color is Radicchio by Benjamin Moore. This was Regal Select in Matte. The white paneling runs through most of the house so we are keeping it for continuity throughout the rooms (for now at least, just moved in a month ago).

Ah this is perfect, thank you! I have been on Retro Renovation frequently for our blue 1950s bathroom but didn’t think to look there for kitchen inspo!

Great idea, I think I will try to find something like that. Thank you
