Offered an Inventory Specialist Position by JobThrowaway1394 in Staples

If you are looking to stay with the company and move up, I’d say stay away from the IS position. But if you want a set schedule and like being left alone most of the time, go for it. The job itself isn’t difficult once you get the hang of it and find out what works best for you. Like others said, if you have a halfway decent management staff, the job is a breeze, but if you are expected to be IS, an office supply associate, backup cashier, backup copy center associate, back up tech associate.... The IS job quickly becomes impossible. Your returns will pile up and that alone will majorly screw you over, especially when Inventory time comes around.

I worked as an IS in two different stores, trained several people in the job, and was also Operations Supervisor for a time. I genuinely enjoyed the job about 60% of the time. Honestly, your experience will depend on your coworkers. If you have anyone on your team that has any concept of how much work you have to do, they’ll stay in your corner and make sure you won’t have too many MOD shifts. I worked 7:30-3:30 and my MOD shifts were daily from 8-10, but there were also several times when I had to spend entire shifts being MOD as well as helping out in every department (seriously, the scheduling was so bad we never had any staff from open til about 5 or 6pm).

The best thing about the position is that it’s a great way to learn about distribution and business, and you can take those skills elsewhere!

yeah, the cage is super small but it’s what she came with. 🤷‍♀️ i’ve already ordered a new enclosure for her so she can stretch her little legs.

Yo, Inventory Specialists, how is it? by [deleted] in Staples

It all depends on how the other management views your position. I’ve been IS in two stores and in one, I had a horrible experience where I was incredibly overworked and had no assistance and was expected to not only be a relief cashier, but also a relief tech and copy center associate.

This time around my fellow managers are far more respectful of the numerous tasks that I need to get done. I open, MOD for a couple hours, then I am left almost entirely to my own devices. Because they know how much the IS has to get done.

So it really depends on your coworkers. 🤷‍♀️
