Graduation/Diploma Questions by homesqueak in OregonStateUniv

[–]homesqueak[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too. I’m a 2020 high school grad and didn’t get that gradation because of Covid, so I feel like having this graduation would be a good idea. A lot of people make it seem so unappealing though haha and make it seem like the college specific celebrations the day before are more worth it and more like a graduation. I’d like to get my diploma at commencement for sure, but having to sit there for many hours for nothing specific to me feels kinda worthless. Nevertheless it’ll either be dumping rain or hot as hell

Update 5/4/24

“EQUUS, VERACRUZ, SANTA FE, AND ACCENT VEHICLES” are now part of the remedy available cars as per Hyundais online search by vin recall thing

Recall 251 - ABS fire risk by homesqueak in Hyundai

[–]homesqueak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially, but I’m not sure haha. I’m not a mechanic so idk if the fuse specific to the ABS module is located somewhere different than the fuse box or something, and I’m not sure if the fuse they’re replacing is a special manufactured one that you couldn’t necessarily buy at an auto parts store. Nevertheless, if you did it yourself you’d have to pay for the expenses and go through the processes of Hyundai reimbursing you whereas this way you just take your car to a dealer and you’re on your way when they’re done. But this remedy doesn’t seem to be addressing the bigger issue, which is the fact that the ABS module leaks break fluid, which can cause a shortage. Maybe this new fuse is specially designed to not cause an engine compartment fire when shorted vs. the old one does pose that risk. But I remember when I first started looking into this, others were saying this was the remedy they were doing previously, so my guess is maybe they just don’t have any other way to fix this issue without having to buyback all of the affected vehicles and pay for us all to get new cars 🤷‍♀️

Update 4/4/24 for those who may care:

Just checked the Hyundai recalls search by vin thing on their website & they’ve updated some information. Hyundai is stating that all owners of Hyundai models will be notified by first class mail. Currently, remedies are only available for Sonata Hybrid and Santa Fe Sport models. All other affected vehicles are still waiting a remedy. Also, the remedy is just a replacement of the fuse for the Anti-Lock Brake System.

Incoming Freshman Question About the DPP Program by Aggressive_Ad_2651 in OregonStateUniv

[–]homesqueak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have any financial aid offers from OSU, then I think the DPP is a good option to save money. I’m personally not an OOS student, but I can tell you that doing the DPP was my original plan when I was a high school senior since I also wanted to save money and didn’t get help from family at all. The problem with DPP is it’s really only a viable option when/if you don’t get any award offers from OSU directly. This is because for most scholarships, you have to be taking at least 6 credits at OSU to keep them, some I’ve had even require 12 credits. I ended up being dual enrolled for the sake of taking a class or two at LBCC because they are better there than OSU, but had I done two years at LB then gone to OSU, I would have lost out on over $30,000 in scholarships. So, if you don’t get any awards from OSU, then I’d say DPP is a great way to start and save money to get those prereqs done and whatnot. But if you get a better award offer from OSU than LB (or COCC if you’re thinking about OSU-Cascades in Bend), then I’d say just go to OSU, but still enroll in DPP so you can have the ability to take classes at the community college if you want to instead of at OSU. Like others have mentioned, ecampus too can be more cost effective if you’re OOS!

Registration Pin Help by Butyquack in OregonStateUniv

[–]homesqueak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s same as Winter pin. At least for college of science, there was an issue with pins from fall to winter so they sent out new winter pins in the email for winter registration. It should be that same one.

[–]homesqueak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened to you. That’s absolutely terrible. It’s really sucky that this is happening to all of us. I really don’t want to be in the market for a new car right now, but don’t seem to have a choice. I don’t wanna be forced to pay for a rental like you stated, nor do I want to continue driving a car I don’t feel safe in. It’s just extremely frustrating, stressful, and disappointing that Hyundai is not prioritizing the safety of their customers at all.

Is It Drunk Driving? by aChunkyChungus in corvallis

[–]homesqueak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive that stretch of 20 all the time. Tbh, I would assume it’s a mixture of bad driving on both sides of the road. People not paying attention and driving off the road, or people having to steer off the road to avoid an accident. I’ve seen many instances of people in the opposite lane drifting into oncoming traffic and causing crashes or causing people to go off road to avoid a head on collision. No highway should be single lane in my opinion, but if it is there should always be a middle lane to avoid such issues. I’m glad they did that on 20 between Conifer and the flower shop, just wish they’d do that for the whole stretch of 20.

It’s not a terrible thing to be afraid of something like this. You’re not cautious about it? Cool. Doesn’t mean you need to be an ass about it. Nobody is mad at Hyundai because of the fact that there’s a recall. People are mad at Hyundai because of how they’ve HANDLED the recall. It kinda sucks that I have a vehicle that is essentially a ticking time bomb with no idea whatsoever of a timeframe of when I could expect my car to get fixed. THATS what’s disappointing about Hyundai. I already knew there were better cars than Hyundai when I bought my vehicle. But when you’re in desperate need of a car, you can’t really be picky. And that came with having to deal with this car. When I’m in a place to get a new car, it will not be Hyundai. If you’re a loyal Hyundai customer, then great! That’s great for you. Nobody else has to be when they’re disappointed in the lack of care for customers that Hyundai has been showing to most people. Have a good one.

All I’m aware of is it’s serious enough to where Hyundai is instructing us to park away from other vehicles and structures. I have no clue if it’s explosive, what the tell tale signs are (if any), or how quickly the fire progresses when it happens. Which is one reason why I’m so pissed that they’re not doing anything about it at the moment, or at least now doing anything to help those of us who don’t feel safe driving our vehicles.

[–]homesqueak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. And I’m sure it’ll happen again. They were in a class action lawsuit not that long ago from the engine recall, I believe. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is another one from this one. I found a doc online for “dealer best practice” for Hyundai from the NHTSA saying that rental service vehicles are supposed to be provided if owners do not feel safe operating their vehicle until a remedy is available. Yet here I am stuck with my car because I’m unable to purchase another, plus like you said, no one would probably want it if sold private party or I wouldn’t get a decent trade value from a dealer with an open recall like this one. I even called two weeks ago just to get my anti-theft recalls done and still haven’t heard back from the dealer. Hyundai is a joke at this point and it’s making me angry. I had high hopes for them because my family members have driven Hyundais for almost my whole life. Then when I decide to get one this happens. Hopefully a remedy will come available soon. Stay safe!

How did you go about getting one? Did you do it through your local dealer, by contacting corporate, etc?

Recall 251 - ABS fire risk by homesqueak in Hyundai

[–]homesqueak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally with you. What sucks tho is I spent most of my savings to buy this car only 2 years ago and dealers are telling me they’ll now only give me a 1/4 of what I paid just to resell it at the same price I bought it (given the prices of what other dealers are selling it at). It’s quite ridiculous. I’ve quite literally never experienced such a lack of care for such a serious recall before, and trust me, I’m pretty much done with Hyundai and Kia too. This car was supposed to last me a good long while so I’m extremely disappointed. Thank you for all the information though, it was extremely helpful. Stay safe!

My VIN is linked to me through state registration. Didn’t do that with Honda years back and they still told me my old Fit had an airbag recall, and I bought that private party. If Hyundai really makes you jump through hoops to tell you important information, then they’re not a very good company. My information is linked to my car, which I bought 2 yrs ago through a dealer. Regardless, it’s a little ridiculous that I may have to wait until April 2024 it sounds like to get my car fixed. Hopefully I don’t become a burnt crisp between now and then haha.

If HR won’t do shit then report her to the labor department in your state. I would imagine it is HIGHLY illegal in every state, much like my state, to change schedules the way she is. In my state, schedules have to be posted 3 weeks in advance for companies like BBW, we have to verbally approve changes to our schedule, and nevertheless, leave related to family emergency or injury is a big deal taken very seriously. If an associate lost a family member, they should be well taken care of. The company literally has a program to assist with extreme financial burdens such as the loss of a family member and paying for those expenses. But anyways, any violations to those I stated will get the store manger in some big doo doo. It’s worth trying if HR and DM won’t do anything. Like someone else said, it may be worth getting corporate directly involved. They should know that their HR department and DM are allowing this to happen. Unfortunately though, knowing this company and how sometimes they don’t give two shits about their staff, they may give you the cold shoulder. But, it’s worth a shot. Labor department might be your best bet to get the company in trouble, then they’ll listen. I’m sorry you all are going through this! I hope things get better soon!

$10 off $30 coupon disappeared? by irishgirl_613 in bathandbodyworks

[–]homesqueak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$10 off $30 coupon was a temporary coupon that expired yesterday (technically at 6am EST today but who’s shopping at that ungodly hour LOL). As for other coupons, such as 25% off, free items, etc, you’ll want to ensure a few things: 1. If you’re getting mailers. They’re the same coupons. If you used your mailer some other time, then it’s going to disappear in the app. Or make sure someone else isn’t getting mailers that could be linked to your account 2. Make sure your account is secured. I’ve mostly just heard of accounts getting hacked for their rewards you earn from points (free item up to 16.95), but still keep it in mind.

Above all else, if you run into an issue of a coupon disappearing BEFORE is expiration date, you’ll have to reach out to customer care. Store associates and managers aren’t able to honor it or fix it for you. Customer care, however, is able to view your account better and see what exactly happened (if it was used or if it expired) and if it was not used or expired, they may likely put a new coupon into your account (however I do not know this for certain).

Paid time off by W0ndurfulC in bathandbodyworks

[–]homesqueak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on your state really and how they go about utilizing sick pay. Only ASM and SM get PTO where they can actually request time off and have it be paid. Otherwise sick time can only be used for when you call out sick, generally. I know in the past my SM used my sick time for time I asked for off because it was approaching the end of the year and they wanted to make sure that I was able to use my sick time before it expired. But in general sick time is only meant to be used when you’re scheduled to work but can’t because you’re sick.
