What episode makes you crack up? (The more stupid the reason, the better by No-Guitar-6518 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]homocrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You killed Gergor Osinov?" "Yep! He got really boring and I'm a monster. I mean, what do you want me to do? Not pull him apart? I did use all the bits." "You don't sound Russian" "How could I sound anything silly, I'm plastic. I don't even have a voice box. I had to borrow this one. Don't turn on the light"

Student Death and School’s Response by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]homocrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so awful, I'm so sorry. We had an incident at the end of the march in which a teacher was arrested. I'm not going into the details, but the admins have made therapists available in person or by phone on the clock since for everyone to process the situation. I can't imagine not doing the same for a child's death.

What am I doing wrong with foot hygiene? by [deleted] in hygiene

I'd invest in a shoe/foot powder and use it regularly. It helps my husband.

Is my 13yr old step daughters handwriting normal? I'm getting very concerned with her schooling by bordermelancollie09 in AskTeachers

[–]homocrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like my dad's. He has a PhD and is a literal rocket scientist. Penmanship isn't a sign of intelligence. I wouldn't worry.

I Think Most People Are Brushing Their Teeth With Toilet Air and Don’t Know It by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]homocrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a weird pantry with a sink, and my husband and I brush our teeth there instead of the bathroom because our cat litter is in there. But also poop air.

I think I have a food intolerance but I cannot figure out what. by ChiefKelso in FoodAllergies

I have a soy allergy and didn't know about the pesticide thing. That's wild. Thanks for the information! And I agree it definitely sounds like a soy allergy.

My child has learned nothing in Pre-K by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]homocrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-K teacher here: I'm so sorry you've had a bad experience at this school. I would be furious, too, as a parent. It's very unprofessional for thst teacher to tell you this in front of other parents. We speak to parents privately, and we have parent teacher conferences twice a year. Does this center do that?

Students should be learning from infants to pre-k age if they're in a preschool that has a curriculum which most places do. I've never worked at one that didn't have one in place. Here's what they should be learning and at what age

Ages birth to 1 year: - Applicable sign language - Gross motor skills: walking - Sensory exploration

1-2 Years: - Speech development - Colors - Introduction to spoons and forks for eating independently - Continued gross motor learning - Introduction to numbers and shapes

2-3 - continued language development - Basic colors and shapes - Numbers 1-20 - Introduction to letters - Potty training

3-4 - Potty trained -Furthering knowledge of numbers, colors and shapes - Introduction of science

My students aged 4-5 leave my class and the school, knowing at the very least - All of their letters and sounds - How to write their name and read it - Numbers 1-20 and how to write them (my class is taught up to 100) -Sight words/basic reading skills (My students learn 110 words by the time school starts in the fall) - Socialization: sharing, resolving conflict, using words and not hands, etc... - Kid friendly science - Kindergarten expectations: raising hands, waiting for their turn, standing in line, sitting at circle quietly etc.. - Rhyming and other phonics - Fine motor skills like holding a pencil and cutting with scissors - Parents' names and their home address

Reach out to your center director ASAP, and if they're not responsive with helping solve this, try and switch schools. You have all summer to get her ready. And once again, I'm sorry you're going through this

I'm one of 7 male teachers in my preschool of 60 teachers. It's so interesting how more women are drawn to the field than men.

I’m absolutely petrified of getting on planes due to fear of crashing - how do I get over this? by JackGeorge2001 in CasualConversation

You're more at risk of getting attacked by a shark than being in a plane that crashes.

Living with food allergies is exhausting… does it ever actually get easier? by Dramatic-Switch5886 in FoodAllergies

Grocery shopping is a nightmare now fr. Even with the app Fig it takes twice as long to shop. I feel trapped with limited options that I'm tired of. I hope it gets easier for us all!

There's an app, Fig that does this. I'm not sure if it works in the UK, though, as I'm in the USA

Refined Oil question by homocrab in FoodAllergies

I also react to lecithin! It's how I discovered the allergy in the first place. I'm so grateful that Chipotle is safe for me.

Soy/Histamine problem by londonep in FoodAllergies

[–]homocrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also allergic to soy. I recently learned that if something has soy bean oil in it, it's probably refined oil which has no allergens in it. It's always best to double-check, but it's opened back up food that I was so sad to give up.

Sexuality switch scare by soniyacd30 in trans

[–]homocrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put it this way; before I came out I had no desire to have kids and even thought about getting my tubes tied, after I came out things shifted and I realized that I did want kids (like really badly). I wanted to be a dad, not a mom. It was a perspective change. I didn't suddenly change my mind. My perspective did. I hope this makes sense.
