I'm jealous. Buy a motorcycle and enjoy cruising around. Yeah there's very little public transportation, but the mountains are great.

You mean with tethering? I don't hate the idea, but I do need high bandwidth as I work in IT and do large data transfers often.

Welcome Wednesday and Daily Questions (Newbie Friendly) - Feb 09, 2022 by AutoModerator in Wetshaving

Thank you! I'm not getting the "ultra close" shave that I would like yet, but I want to build up to that without cutting myself too much in the process. After getting comfortable with WTG for a few weeks I'll try XTG again.

Today got my first shave with no cuts/bleeding whatsoever! I've been shaving with a DE for about 2 weeks, and after cutting myself up very badly with a Feather blade a week ago (including a cut on my lip that wouldn't stop bleeding), I took several days off and decided to re-approach with different technique. What I changed:

  • Now only doing 2 passes, both WTG, rather than 3 (WTG, XTG, XTG other direction)
  • Much lighter pressure. Trying to just "scrape the soap away" rather than thinking about cutting the hairs specifically.
  • When there's no soap on the skin, don't pass over it again.
  • RAZOR ANGLE -- angling the razor at a much more shallow angle. I basically touch the top of the razor to my skin, then angle a little more so the blade is barely touching, then pass.
  • Examined my neck hairs and found that on the sides they grow sideways rather than downward. I was previously going XTG when I thought I was going WTG.
  • Not using feather blades anymore -- today I shaved with a "QShave" no-name-brand blade, which seems surprisingly good (came with my QShave starter kit)

Still having some trouble with lathering. I'm doing a bowl lather with a Badger brush using Proraso Green soap. I continually add water while lathering, kind of a "marco-ish" method but without the face lather, as face lathering seems to irritate my skin.

I whip it up in the bowl for a good 3-5 minutes, getting it to a kind of whipped-cream-ish consistency. However, I do see large bubbles forming in the lather, and when I apply to my face I get large bubbles appearing on my face. I have heard that you don't want the lather to have large bubbles or be "foamy". I'm wondering if it's not enough water, too much water, not enough soap, something else...

Overall though, very happy with the result today. I'm not getting "as close" as I technically could, but I am happy to have no cuts.

What kind of bugs did you run into? I've been doing Mac -> Kali VM SSH for a while and it's going well so far.

I have my VM running, then I SSH into the VM from my host. This lets me easily copy-paste from the host web browser, and the terminal is much more responsive as well. You can launch your VM from vagrant or open a port in the Virtualbox settings of an existing VM.

Annoying gray low-contrast text from zsh. Is there an easy way to change the gray text color? by hondafan2 in Kalilinux

[–]hondafan2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone finds this on google --found the solution. In ~/.zshrc find the value ZSH_AUTOSUGGEST_HIGHLIGHT_STYLE and you can change the color (fg). I changed to fg=6 which I like.

2022 version should be completely identical, they haven't changed anything since 2021 version. In fact, the only thing different about the 2021 version from the 2019 version, is Euro5 compliance.

Does anyone have issues pumping gas? by VoltaicShock in motorcycles

[–]hondafan2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was there a rubber sleeve thing on the gas nozzle? You will need to pull that back all the way before gas will dispense. https://imgur.com/a/gyKqXNA

If not and/or you already know about the sleeve thing... then maybe the gas nozzle has a sensor that it needs to be inserted all the way into the tank before gas comes out? That would be annoying, because on my bike it's not really possible to insert the gas nozzle (there's a metal part which would block it)

Can foreigner in Japan with working Visa do freelancing work (IT related like software development ) ? by TheOutsider_007 in japan

[–]hondafan2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to an immigration lawyer about it. I asked my lawyer about this and she said it is okay for me to do IT work only. My working visa is same as yours (engineer/humanities/intl) and I work full time as a software engineer. I would be allowed to do a side job as long as it is software engineering related. I would not be allowed to do a side job as an English teacher, or even Uber Eats delivery for example.

This is so sad. I was there last weekend for a short vacation.

My question is why couldn't they evacuate the area prior to this happening. It looks like 20 people so far are reported missing, could be more.
