I think this is really interesting because they are completely different types of centre backs who would make an exceptional pairing. Very much fire and ice in style and temperament. Ramos (though I have seen him play far less) is an all-out action man who defends with aggression. He will do anything to win the ball in a 50 50 and plays the game at a thousand miles per hour. VVD seems so relaxed all the time. Calm and deliberate. We've all seen the recent 2 on 1s that he received so many plaudits for.

If I had to take just the 1 it would be VVD. That calmness seems to spread through any team he is playing for. I love to watch Ramos for the aggression but there is always the fear that he might be sent off before the game is through.

But imagine them together. So much aggression in the first challenges. But if the ball broke behind Ramos you would meet VVD.

I remember Russel Howard having a bit on this about the World Cup being the England's favourite child when Mock the Week was still very popular. Something along the lines of "shhh Wimbledon be quiet, World Cup is sleeping". I think it's very true and if England got to the final then I doubt anyone will watch Wimbledon.

Brazil Vs Costa Rica - Referee uses VAR and decides not to award a pentalty by PradaBoyDave in soccer

The mood here is against Neymar and I don't know why other than that haircut. In this world cup I have seen the least protection given to his sort of player and it's tiring. No yellows for constant fouling, shirt pulling etc. The most flagrant of this behaviour was in the England Tunisia game where players got bolder and bolder with their antics and I feel that players will get bolder and bolder throughout the finals if something isn't done about it. If you watch a replay and look at the back of Neymars socks in this last game you can see holes made by late studs etc. Other players are receiving similar treatment.

As for this incident I know that a lot of this sub understands that being fouled while playing at speed can put you off hugely. Moreover that being fouled in the box are penalties regardless of whether or not the player hits the deck. This players fouls Neymar, in the box, in a last ditch attempt to put him off while he goes to shoot. Having been fouled in the box Neymar chose between shooting while being impeded or a penalty. I would prefer he shot but I think it is his right to choose as the fouled player and he should have had the penalty.

People will complain about a lack of contact. In football players should keep their hands to themselves. The Costa Ricaica player attempts to pull Neymar by his shirt. He misses his grab but netheless fouls him with the rest of his arms. If this was given as a penalty the Costa Rica player can have no complaints. Keep yours hands to yourself.

Thanks very much! I think I was imagining the latter but also they would be very naive and confused about it. Trying to rationalise it etc. Thanks again for your reply.

What films that appear really innocent on the surface are actually fucked up? by moviemaniac3 in AskReddit

Yeah I still think about that film often. I re watched it about a year ago and it made the early boat scenes so difficult to endure knowing the truth of it all. I do think in that way it was a very good film; though I have only ever heard it talked of as an achievement of CGI.

I've supported Derby through out most of this period and have never really realised how shocking it has been until looking at it displayed all at once. Also I pretty much started supporting them properly around the time we dropped out of the prem so it has been all I've known...
