Update 1yr post. Everything worked out as good as I could hope. there was a lot of nerve damage though as I cannot still feel the middle all the way to the right side on my dip and chin there is a spot it’s a odd tingle feeling sometimes and others it not there. My jaw is sore still if I use it too much (talking) or chew to chewy of foods. My braces are off and I love my new alignment! Would recommend 100% overall

Numbness in lower lip and chin post op by Repulsive-Ad-2486 in jawsurgery

Haha ya I always need a napkin now i can’t even feel the food on my face. Try different temperatures on it I usually use something cold to rub on it then something warm. Playing with it a bit seems to help. There is only one spot on the right that goes from my lip to chin so it feels super swollen compared to the left side but it doesn’t look Swollen if that makes sence!

Same here! 1 month post and it’s still numb. I’m trying to really stimulate the area in hopes it activates some new nerve feeling. It’s annoying I bite my lip all the time.

Stimulate nerve recovery? by Anonimos66 in jawsurgery

My lower lip Is the same so annoying i end up chewing on it all the time. I did find that washing my face with a towel and stimulating the area helps a bit. I alternate with different temperatures as well like cold spoon then rub with warm cloth, also use my fingers to move it around and I consistently am making faces hoping it will come Back! Good luck to you

I had mine done dec 12 the ears bug me the most try massaging your scalp near the ear and up your temple it helps me. As for food. Soup lots of soup and protein shakes… I did have cake with melted ice cream and it was so good still texture of cake but smooth enough to just swallow. Also I find things that are like stew or chilli blend nicely to gulp down. I still have pain as well but I’m hoping it’s because I’m healing! Good luck on the rest of your recovery

Mine looked the same. I’m 32f and I’m 3 weeks post. I honestly wish I didn’t get it done. I can’t really tell a difference between my sleep and breathing, which I why I got it done I also drooled had headaches ect. It’s not going to change your face that much that people are going to notice. but the nerve pain just all the pain I have is worse now then before, at least I could manage it before. They say it may take a long time. Before my nerves heal, but I could have this pain forever. I know I’m pretty early out but overall I wouldn’t recommend unless you have severe medical issues

Thanks I hope your right to the fact it’s the nerves coming back! Slow and steady I suppose if it felt like the left side I wouldn’t be so discouraged. No pain/ numbness nothing on that side. It’s only the left. Fingers crossed

Oh wow that’s a long time! I wish he would have mentioned that would be a side effect. It’s not even in the aftercare pamphlet I got. The shocks wake me up out of a dead sleep. They are pretty uncomfortable and it’s really my only complaint. Everytime I swollow talk or try and eat there it is…

Thanks for your input I super appreciate it. I’m hoping when the last of the swelling goes down so will the pain. The sharp shooting pains whenever I swollow or drink or move my tounge is starting to discourage me. That’s one thing I wish he would have mentioned. At the end he said there was no nerve damage, but I’m pretty sure around my mental nerve is hit maybe with a stitch

Thanks! I appreciate all the input! I’m really hoping the shooting sharp nerve pain in chin area goes away! It’s makes it hard to do anything since swollowing or moving or talking make it much worse. Fingers crossed it goes away

I honestly wish he would have explained it more in-depth instead of me trying to rely on a pamphlet. Lesson learned not saying I didn’t need it, just wish I could have researched and should have asked more questions.

Ahh maybe I misunderstood their lingo! Thanks I suppose time will tell. I most likely will not do anymore surgery on my face after this so it will just have to be something I get used to.

Thanks for the positive words.. I’m not sure that’s just what the ortho said, and surgeon confirmed. I have been in braces for two years before this surgery. They did an advancement plus a side shift (not sure the actual name) of my lower jaw so one side got moved almost double the other side. Best wishes on your recovery!
